Chapter 38 - 38

Inside the X-Mansion hall, Ron, Professor X, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Rogue, and others were gathered around a blue-skinned mutant woman.

This blue-skinned woman was none other than Mystique, Raven, who shared a complicated love-hate relationship with Professor X and Magneto!

Mystique was currently bound to a chair, her eyes scanning the X-Men in front of her with disdain. However, when her gaze fell upon Professor X, her expression became complex, as if she didn't want to see him.

Mystique quickly averted her eyes from Professor X and fixed them on Ron, her gaze filled with both confusion and anger.

She had disguised herself well enough that even Professor X hadn't detected her presence, so how had this person discovered her lurking in the X-Mansion?

Facing Mystique's gaze, Ron shrugged, completely ignoring her.

"Raven, what exactly do you intend to do by impersonating Bobby and infiltrating my X-Mansion?"

Seeing his 'good sister' from the past, Professor X's emotions were somewhat complicated. He looked at Mystique and asked.

"Charles, what I do is none of your business. Since I've been caught by you, do with me as you please, hmph!"

Mystique appeared rather haughty, even letting out a scoff in front of Professor X, adopting a posture of resignation.

The reason for this was simple: she had been caught by Professor X, Magneto's plan entrusted to her had failed, and she had no means of escaping Professor X's grasp. Indeed, she could only submit to his will.

"Raven, you know my abilities. Even if you don't speak, I can still find out what you're up to!"

Professor X frowned, controlling his wheelchair to move slightly closer to Mystique, speaking with an air of pressure.

"Charles, I was with you for so long in the past; I know your character. You wouldn't easily use telepathy to search someone else's memories."

Facing Professor X's threat, Mystique's lips curled into a slight smirk, and she spoke with an air of confidence.

"Raven, I... sigh!" Professor X sighed helplessly. Mystique was right; he wouldn't easily use his abilities to search someone else's memories, especially not someone as familiar to him as Mystique.

Using telepathy to search someone's memories could very well turn that person into an idiot. How could Professor X do such a thing to his sister, Raven?

Seeing this, Ron on the side felt speechless.

This Professor X was too pedantic. Mystique was a mutant, not an ordinary human. Searching her memories wouldn't kill her. Even if Mystique was his childhood playmate, this was about thwarting Magneto's plan. How could he still be so indecisive with Mystique?

Of course, Ron had no intention of interfering, lest he make a fool of himself.

According to the plot's progression, in a few hours, Professor X would learn Magneto's true intentions from Senator Kelly, who would become a mutant.

However, with Mystique, who caused Rogue's departure, already captured, Rogue would certainly not leave the X-Mansion as in the original plot. It was truly hard to say what method Magneto would use to abduct Rogue to complete his plan.

Professor X's unwillingness to search Mystique's memories meant that the interrogation to uncover Magneto's plan had reached an impasse.

Later, Professor X ordered Mystique to be confined in a specially designed room, and then he found Ron and said,

"Ron, thank you for rooting Raven out of the X-Mansion. Otherwise, who knows what kind of chaos Raven's infiltration would have caused."

"You're welcome, but Professor, I must criticize you a bit here. The X-Mansion's defense mechanisms are too outdated, allowing someone to infiltrate so easily. If it's not safe, the young mutants at the X-Mansion will be in a rather dangerous situation. What do you think, Professor?"

Ron waved his hand, looking at Professor X with an expression that said, 'Are you kidding me?' and spoke.

"That... Raven has the ability to transform into anyone, so infiltrating a place is quite simple." Professor X became awkward, chuckled, and then added, "But Ron, you're right. I have indeed been too relaxed. I've already contacted a friend of mine, who will come to help strengthen the X-Mansion's defenses."

"That's good then." Ron nodded, knowing his persuasion hadn't been in vain.

However, Ron was somewhat curious about the friend Professor X mentioned.

In the movies and shows, Professor X didn't really have many friends; at most, it was a love-hate relationship with Magneto.

But this was a world of great fusion, so it was hard to say who Professor X might know.

With matters settled, Ron returned to his room, waiting quietly.

Magneto, he was a tough guy to deal with!

...In a certain cave, Magneto, Erik, frowned, his face displeased, clearly having encountered something extremely unpleasant.

"Raven still hasn't returned. I knew this woman still harbored feelings for Charles; I wrongly considered her one of us before!"

Magneto scoffed, muttering unhappily.

At this moment, an extremely ugly fellow suddenly walked through the metal entrance of the cave and approached Magneto.

"I've learned that Mystique was captured by Professor X, which is why she failed. What should we do next?"

This ugly fellow was named Mortimer Toynbee, known as Toad, and he was one of the oldest members of Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants.

"So that's how it is..." Magneto's expression relaxed somewhat after hearing Toad's account, but he was still very displeased.

Mystique's mission this time was the most crucial part of his plan. Now that Mystique had failed, his plan couldn't be executed.

Magneto began pacing in place, thinking about how to continue his plan and capture the little girl who could absorb others' abilities.

After a moment, Magneto finally stopped. He approached Toad and instructed,

"Mortimer, I need you to go and bring Emma Frost back to me. Tell her I need her help now. That woman has been out there long enough!"

As he said this, Magneto suddenly looked up, recalling some past events decades ago when he and Professor X fought against the Hellfire Club.

At that time, he and Professor X fought together for mutant rights, becoming the best of friends.

Later, however, they parted ways due to differing ideologies, becoming enemies.

"It's a pity, after all this time, Charles, we can never go back to how things were!"

Sighing, Magneto regained his cold demeanor, becoming indifferent once more.
