Chapter 1 - 1

New York City, USA.

It was morning, and inside a house on a street in Queens, a young man suddenly opened his eyes.

He looked around and found himself still in the somewhat old, Western-style house.

"Cough, cough…"

Feeling pressure in his lungs, he couldn't help but cough, then got out of bed, preparing to get dressed for school.

"It's been almost a year since I came to this world, hasn't it?"

After getting dressed, he walked to the mirror and looked at the thin young man with blue eyes and Western features reflected there, smiling helplessly.

Yes, he wasn't actually from this world, but from a planet called Earth, from an Eastern country.

He now had two names. The first name was Ron, and the second name was also Ron.

However, the first Ron was Eastern, with the surname Luo and the given name En, making his full name Luo En.

The second Ron was a Western name, with the full name Ron Brenstad, which was his official name in this world.

After arriving in this world, Ron discovered that this world was also called Earth, but it was very different from his original Earth.

This Earth had aliens, mutants, and super-powered humans like Iron Man and Spider-Man.

Based on his memories from his previous life, he knew that this world should be called Marvel, or perhaps an even more complex American comic book world!

"Cough, cough…"

Feeling the pressure in his lungs and trachea again, Ron couldn't help but cough once more, then sighed helplessly.

"This body is truly too weak."

This was an old problem.

Ron's father's family in this world had a hereditary asthma condition that weakened the body and spirit, and was accompanied by various unpleasant symptoms like coughing and dizziness.

Because of this hereditary asthma, his father in this world, after his mother died in a car accident a few years prior, also passed away about a year ago due to illness and grief.

However, even though they had passed away, they left Ron a dilapidated house and a decent amount of savings.

Although these inheritances had shrunk considerably due to America's terrible taxes, if Ron was frugal, the money would barely allow him to live until adulthood.

From the original Ron's memories, he learned that he was exactly 17 years old this year and attended a school called Midtown High School in New York.

Ron remembered clearly that this Midtown High School contained two individuals who would later become famous in this world: one was Peter Parker, the future famous Spider-Man, and the other was Harry Osborn, the future minor villain Green Goblin II.

However, at present, neither of them had become famous; they were just two ordinary high school students.

After washing up, Ron went to the refrigerator, took out a bag of milk and a hand-held pancake, and left the house.

Although he had been in this world for almost a year, he still found most of its food unpalatable. So, he usually cooked some Eastern food himself to satisfy his appetite.

There was no one else in the house. Ron locked the front door, got on his bicycle, and followed the familiar route to Midtown High School.

Although this was a planet frequently invaded by aliens, swarming with mutants, and with superheroes as common as dogs, sadly, Ron possessed none of these superpowers.

Ron was just an ordinary high school student in this world. He hadn't mutated with superpowers, hadn't awakened as a mutant, nor did he have various high-tech gadgets at his disposal… The reason he went to Midtown High School on time every day was for one thing: Spider-Man!

What he wanted to do was to acquire Spider-Man's spider superpowers.

Excluding the countless comic book versions of Spider-Man, there were two movie versions. In the first version, the "Spider-Man" trilogy, Peter Parker was bitten by a mutated spider during a visit to Columbia University, after which he became Spider-Man. (I recommend watching this version of Spider-Man; it's my personal favorite.)

There was also a version called "The Amazing Spider-Man," where the mutated spider that bit Peter Parker was actually developed by Peter's parents and was only effective on Peter; others bitten by it would experience no effect whatsoever.

If it were the second version, Ron would have to reconsider other ways to become powerful.

Fortunately, based on his memories and observations of Spider-Man, Ron confirmed that Peter Parker in this American comic book world was definitely the Peter Parker from the "Spider-Man" trilogy.

Because this Peter truly gained his spider abilities by being bitten by a mutated spider developed at Columbia University, and his parents were previously CIA agents, not researchers.

Only this way did Peter Parker fit the true identity of a commoner, rather than becoming an invisible second-generation heir relying on his parents' influence.

The mutated spider in the first movie version could also grant superpowers to others, so Ron's goal was directly set on the mutated spider.

Although there was a possibility of failure, this was indeed Ron's best chance to acquire superpowers.

He planned to follow Peter closely once the Columbia University visit began, and after Peter was bitten, he would quickly catch the mutated spider and get bitten himself.

To gain more chances of survival in this world, without any superpowers and suffering from a hereditary disease, he certainly wouldn't care about being bitten by a mutated spider!

Ron understood how cruel this world was. He certainly didn't want to be just an ordinary person in this world. After all, Earth in this world was frequently invaded by aliens, and cities being destroyed was a common occurrence.

Without superpowers, and coupled with his cursed hereditary disease, Ron would definitely not live long in this world.

Given that, why wouldn't he take a gamble?

After riding his bicycle to Midtown High School, Ron purposefully looked around and saw two very familiar figures.

Peter Parker and Harry Osborn.

To be able to catch the mutated spider later, Ron had been very proactive in building good relationships with Peter and Harry during his year at Midtown High School, so that it would be more convenient for him to gain superpowers later.

"Hey, Peter, Harry." Upon seeing the two figures, Ron immediately called out and ran to catch up.

"Ron, you're here," Peter Parker and Harry Osborn turned around when they heard the voice, waving their hands in greeting.

"Uh… cough, cough…"

Ron also smiled and waved, wanting to speak, but he felt immense pressure in his lungs and trachea again, causing him to cough uncontrollably.

Seeing Ron cough, Peter and Harry's faces tightened, and they asked worriedly, "Ron, are you alright?"

"Cough, cough… I'm fine, this is just my old problem, you two know that."

Ron covered his mouth, and when the coughing finally subsided, he smiled, indicating that he was fine.

Seeing Ron stop coughing, Peter and Harry also relaxed and said nothing more.

After chatting with Ron for a few moments, Peter Parker then said something that greatly excited Ron.

"Ron, I just got news that tomorrow our Midtown High School will be organizing a trip to the Columbia University research center. Are you going?"

"Of course I'm going! I'm very interested in this visit!"

After hearing Peter Parker's words, Ron was overjoyed and agreed without hesitation.

The reason he had been diligently studying at Midtown High School in this world was precisely so that he could gain superpowers with Spider-Man. How could he possibly refuse!

Although Ron had also considered other ways to gain superpowers after coming to this world, such as finding Iron Man to get an Iron Man suit, or getting exposed to gamma rays with the Hulk to mutate, or even learning magic from Doctor Strange or the Ancient One… but in the end, all these ideas were rejected one by one.

The main reason was that he didn't know any of these people and had no connection to them. Let alone gaining superpowers with them, it would probably be difficult to even meet them.

Ron was just an ordinary person in this world. The closest and most likely superpower for him to acquire was Spider-Man's, so how could he give up this best chance to get superpowers?

After chatting a few more words with Peter and Harry, Ron parted ways with them and went to his own classroom, preparing for class.

However, although Ron was physically in the classroom, his mind was not on his studies at all.

Right now, all he was thinking about was how to get Spider-Man's superpowers tomorrow, how to get bitten by the mutated spider.

It would be fine if Ron didn't know what was going to happen in this world, but the key was that he did.

This world would definitely encounter many dangers in the future. Without superpowers, he would just be a lamb to the slaughter.

Although those superhero movies from his previous life never showed scenes of ordinary city residents dying, seeing the destroyed and ruined cities, the casualties among ordinary people were definitely not few.

Ron was no longer someone watching a movie on a big screen; he was a real member of this world. If he didn't work hard to make himself stronger, he would die!

"Cough, cough…"

As he thought, Ron started coughing again.

"Damn hereditary disease, cough, cough…"

Ron cursed angrily in his heart, trying to use his old method of covering his mouth to force his coughing to stop.

But for some reason, this time, no matter how long Ron held his breath, his coughing never stopped.

"Ron, are you alright? Do you want me to take you to the hospital?"

Hearing Ron's increasingly severe coughing, the attention of the surrounding students and teacher all turned to Ron.

They knew about Ron's asthma, but usually Ron would only cough two or three times in a class, not as severely as today.

"Cough, cough… I'm fine…"

Ron waved his hand, indicating that he was fine.

However, even though he tried hard to suppress the cough, the situation did not improve.

The more Ron tried to suppress the cough, the more severe it became.

His lungs and trachea began to hurt more and more, and he even started to feel dizzy.

After a while, he finally couldn't bear the pressure on his body and passed out directly.

To reiterate, the Spider-Man chosen here is the commoner Spider-Man from the old "Spider-Man" trilogy, not the second-generation Spider-Man who relies on his father in the new "Amazing Spider-Man." I'm exasperated; it was explained so clearly in the first chapter, yet so many people still say the mutated spider was developed by Peter's father…
