Chapter 1 - chapter 1

"God dammit, when will I be on break again?"

In the depths of a cave, the sound of iron striking against stones and rock could be heard through the echoes. On closer view, a group of fifty or so slaves could be seen mining. They were relentlessly striking their pickaxes against the cave, chipping away at it little by little.

"This is unacceptable! You bastards should give us some food at least. The last I ate was already six hours ago, you wretches."

A man spoke in anger, but before another word could be spoken, a sword was thrust into his chest. Injured yet alive, he spoke, "You basta—" However, before he could complete his words, flames erupted from the sword and engulfed the man. In just a few seconds, there was nothing but ash.

"If you trash wanna complain, go ahead, but having 'bastard' as your last words is strange."

One of the two overseers, a man of average height with red eyes, pulled the sword back into its scabbard.

"Stop slacking! Keep mining!"

The slaves heard and, now with fear in their actions, got to work again.

Red's partner, a bald man with deep brown eyes carrying a battle axe spoke,"they just don't know when to give up."

"The shift was about to end too. Fucking idiot," Red spoke. "Well, what else can be expected of them?" Brown replied.

After a few minutes, Red announced that the shift had ended and everyone was to go back to their assigned tents. Karz hurriedly got up and started moving through the cave. 'It's the middle of the day. I hope I can get something edible at least,' Karz thought, and after a few minutes of walking, light shone in his eyes. Although somewhat blinded by it, he kept moving and was finally out of the cave.
