Chapter 29 - Spotlight

Leon's body trembled, his eyes glazed over yet his soul felt relaxed.

What i did.

Obviously he couldn't just tell them that he robbed a noble, that would be stupid. But maybe, just maybe there was a way out of this. Leon was also felt that these two could tell when he was lying and when he was telling the truth.

This is east borough, stealing wouldn't be something too crazy, even kids steal in order to eat, others starve and die on the road.

"I stole that night, something of monetary value, I j-just wanted to eat something!"

I shouldn't let them know that recognize who they are. To them im just some criminal from east borough, Leon doesn't have murder in his records, only theft.

Leon couldn't help but slightly smirk in the inside. The man in the top hat nodded and then reached into his pocket.

Have they figured out I'm a beyonder? I didn't think of that! No, they shouldn't be looking that deep into it!

There was a eerie silence between Leon and the two nighthakws interrogating him. In his mind he was hoping that he wouldn't be investigated too deeply, he had no reputation, nothing of interest. Just another face in the crowd.

Pity, yes, pity is what I need. This is just a nightmare...

"I was starving the days before july 12th, since i have no family i was just wandering the streets. Then, on that day I came across Eli Cooper, what a kind nobleman, he offered me help, money and a place to stay. That night while staying at Hôtel Les Saisons Ramenées, I couldn't control myself and ended up stealing from one of the nobleman outside the hotel. It was a mix of kleptomania and survival instinct."

The two figures changed their stance a little, taking on a more serious posture.

"I don't remember much from that night, I stole something, spent the night at the hotel and the next morning I went back home. I-I heard it burned down, is that true? I can't believe... what a tragedy. It was such a nice place aswell."

A bitter smile encroached on his lips, his hands idly sitting by his sides. He didn't display too much emotion, but not too little either... just enough to make these two go away. Their lack of words scared Leon alot though, he was leaving it up to fate.

Please lord, make them leave.

By lord he was referring to the God of Steam and Machinery.

In an instant the two nighthawks dissapeared without another word, the house was back now back to normal.

He grabbed a pot and cleaned it up before putting it over a gas stove. He poured in some water and once the water began boiling he threw in the potatoes.

Leon grabbed a fork and played around with it before he jabbed the potatoes with the fork.

I'll just make something simpler... forget that stew.

Once the potatoes were gone he cut up some mutton and threw it into the pot aswell with some salt and onions.

It's gonna have to simmer there.

While the mutton was boiling he sprinkled some salt over one of the potatoes and blew on it before taking a bite.

I miss domino's, that would have been really nice after that experience.

When he transmigrated he didn't expect it to be such a scary world with madness chasing after him at every step. Even though Daniel was pretty old in his previous life, atleast according to his standards, Leon had much more experience in just 19 years.

Well, Daniel didn't do much so it was no wonder. His job was a digital artist, doing commissions for all sorts of people. Perverts, normal people, people starting out their own webnovels...

It kept his bills and rent payed so he never complained about it.

From one shit hole into another, couldn't I have been born in Empress borough?

He chewed on the boiled potatoes a bit more while scrambling through his thoughts. Eli Cooper had mentioned something about getting a messenger!

I know you can make contracts with spirits from the spirit world, but I didn't think you could get a messenger. I should try summoning one.

...

Gaia province of the Feynapotter Kingdom.

Nancy walked out of the room after healing a few of her fellow nuns, she was the only member capable of doing so as the others were hurt too badly. The fertility order was only composed from nuns and guard against Intis in the North and Lenburg in the south. But they also help locals and while helping a local they stumbled onto what they first thought was a village but was actually an abandoned old town. There was a sort of dome of corruption that surrounded that town. When a few of the villagers that led the fertility order walked too close they were instantly impregnated! Fortunately almost everyone made it unharmed. Almost, one person died and the others were began showing signs of going crazy.

Nancy was a sequence 8 Doctor so she was able to help most of her fellow nuns. But then she remembered the Primordial Light she prayed to, in a moment of fear and desperation she betrayed the Earth Mother and...

"Best not to dwell on it, though... that deity mentioned that it would hold a meeting every sunday at 6pm. I wonder how many members there are..."

Nancy believed that after the ancient god summoned her "He" also summoned alot of others. Intrigued but scared she was.

"Nancy! The church is sending over one of the Archbishops to help us."

Clea basically barged into the after gaining the news through a telegram. There were many theories about the abandoned town, some thought it was the base of a secret organisation while others thought it was corrupted after the death of some high sequence beyonder or even some sort of sealed artifact.

Nancy had tawny colored hair with a few shades of olive green. She hated the colors but still tried taking care of her hair as much as she could. She had a messy Wolf Cut that framed her heart shaped jawline very well.

"I see, then let's get back to healing everyone before we do anything else."

Unlike Nancy, Clea was a sequence 9 warrior, so her job was ensuring everyone's safety. The strongest beyonder in their group was Ethel, a sequence 6 judge from the arbiter pathway.

The nun's from the fertility order were currently using a small village 10 kilometers away from that abandoned town.

Nancy paced around the room, thinking.

Clea stood there, slowly rubbing her belly...
