Chapter 99 - Forever

Seraphina's POV

Pain.

That was the first thing I felt when I woke up.

A sharp, burning pain in my shoulder that made me wince before I even opened my eyes. I tried to sit up, but my body refused to cooperate. Everything felt heavy, like I was made of lead.

What happened? Where was I?

I forced my eyes open, blinking against the soft light filtering through the curtains. My vision was blurry at first, but slowly things came into focus.

I saw a ceiling. A familiar ceiling.

I tried to move again, and that's when I felt it—something warm holding my hand. I turned my head slowly, ignoring the protest from my sore muscles, and froze.

Adrian?

He was sitting in a chair next to the bed, slumped over slightly, his head resting on his other arm on the mattress. He was asleep, but his hand was firmly holding mine, like he was afraid I'd disappear if he let go.

I blinked, confused.

I didn't die?
