Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Du Wa is Worth This Price!

Chapter 6: Du Wa is Worth This Price!

Author: Great Demon Spirit

Dum Dum Dugan sorted through the Shared Memory Archive in his mind, found some information uploaded by who-knows-which-hundredth Clone, and said honestly, "As far as I know, he doesn't belong to anyone. In every action he's taken, I haven't been able to find any trace of interference from any other power."

"Very well. Let's re-analyze this report you've given me: you spent a week confirming that a man who can create bioweapons with unknown means, openly deals with Blade, and attacks Vampires... the greatest point of suspicion about him is... that he might prefer raw meat over cooked food?"

Dum Dum Dugan forced a smile. "If I told you that wasn't my conclusion, would you believe me?"

He knew it was the kind of answer you'd give only if you'd had your head slammed in a door.

"I believe you. And I have even more reason to suspect that the one standing before me, giving me the runaround, isn't your Level Ten Main Body, but a Clone whose actual level isn't even that of a Level Two Agent." Fury stared at the Dum Dum Dugan in front of him.

This guy couldn't even be bothered to voice the speculation that "the cute animals he manipulates like to eat raw food."

Running into a Clone that didn't want to work was bad luck at worst, but also encountering a briefer who didn't want to use his brain was truly terrible.

Dum Dum Dugan lowered his head and thought for a moment, probably contemplating how to fool Fury into believing the memory in his brain's Shared Memory Archive, which was full of holes.

"Alright, I generally know what's going on. Tell your Main Body that he can try to pull back a little of his attention from..."

"Understood. But I can't guarantee the Main Body will review the information I upload in a timely manner."

Fury's forehead throbbed. Thanks to the weakened version of the Super Serum he had also been injected with, he hadn't had a brain hemorrhage.

"So, based on current intelligence, combined with the information provided by Blade, this person is someone we can cooperate with, but cannot trust for the time being. He's a legitimate company owner who exploited a legal loophole, claiming he is conducting biological experiments to develop a miracle cure for Mutants... Who approved an application with such a reason?" Fury asked.

No matter how you looked at it, it was moronic.

Dum Dum Dugan scratched his temple, trying hard to gather useful memories and figure out what lies to spin to prove he was a talented Clone.

"Because a lot of people have been using similar excuses to scam the government for funds lately."

A man walked over. As someone who had greeted thousands of protagonists, he carried a natural air of composure. He approached with a peculiar smile on his face.

Coulson said, "Compared to those swindlers, as a graduate of the University of Zurich with a degree in genetics, he could at least produce a few solid papers to put up a front. As it turns out, he didn't get any money, only a piece of land to use as an experimental site. But what's interesting is that in the government's accounts, there is indeed a record of a funds transfer to the Weyland Corporation."

"Parasite! Disgraceful!" Fury slammed a fist on the table. Possessing super strength, his anger was enough to flip it over. "Who is the highest-ranking person in charge of this area? How could he tolerate something like this happening?"

"Colonel Stryker."

"Oh."

Silence fell for a moment.

Dum Dum Dugan tapped his head and said, "I just reviewed a memory. The Clone responsible for monitoring the target reported a robbery at a cooked food warehouse. It seems the other party spent all his money and had to resort to direct means. Most importantly, he took the opportunity to snatch back the money he paid to the Clone. Perhaps he plans to pay it back again the next time he buys food."

"I think I get what you're saying. A person so keen on eating raw meat robbed your cooked food warehouse. Just listen to that, what a terrible, major crime—he can't even tell the difference between raw and cooked food anymore." Fury stared daggers at Dum Dum Dugan.

Dum Dum Dugan's expression stiffened.

Coulson said, "Blade made a deal with him three separate times, giving him only two hundred thousand dollars in total. It's a shame Blade is unwilling to hand over that creature's blood to us, leaving us with no opportunity to conduct research. However, even if we got it, we couldn't study it. That corrosive blood can even eat through super-alloys. A design concept like that must be intended to counter reverse-genetic decryption, even if the blood Du Wa provided was diluted."

Coulson didn't yet understand the characteristics of the Xenomorph. Even if he really managed to create artificial Xenomorphs using a gene fragment, they wouldn't listen to him. It was inevitable that they would turn around and wreak havoc in S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Blade is a powerful warrior, but not the best agent. He has his own code. When he gets stubborn, there's nothing you can do about him. How about this: send someone to provide your Clone with another two hundred thousand dollars in funds."

With a generous wave of his hand, Fury completed the approval and instructed, "Remember to issue an invoice for two hundred million, then send it to the Five Great Powers and have them wire the money immediately."

"Boss, I don't think they'll believe it. A strange scientist who can barely handle a few Vampires even when fighting for his life isn't worth two hundred million," Dum Dum Dugan said, having keenly discovered the truth and offering a loyal reminder.

"Impossible. He can create such a powerful new organism, whatever it is, that can even defeat Vampires. He's worth it." Fury's face was certain, but what he was thinking in his heart was another matter.

In Fury's view, Du Wa's results, aside from their novelty, only had potential merit on the level of biotechnology. Perhaps after several years, or even decades, of quiet development, and after making a world-shaking breakthrough in biotechnology, would Du Wa be valuable enough to be heavily promoted by him.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. he controlled held countless secrets related to the survival of humanity, and it commanded numerous special powers.

The Undersea, Kunlun, the Moon, Sorcerers, Demons, Celestials, the Iceberg, the Black Dragon, Extraterrestrials...

Therefore, the current Du Wa was not yet worthy of his personal attention.

"Continue surveillance. The focus is to assess his psychological state, confirm the stability and reliability of his personality, and then we'll decide what to do."

Truly calling off the surveillance was impossible. Du Wa's abilities weren't as simple as spitting fire or squirting water; they reached a level where he could easily commit major crimes. He would inevitably be placed on a watchlist.

Because, in this world, the extremely dangerous ones were not necessarily people with special powers, but also those with special intelligence.

"Coulson, report on your situation." Fury quickly put the matter of Du Wa to the back of his mind. The fact that he had spent a few minutes of his time discussing Du Wa was already an exception; other matters were more important.

Coulson's smile gradually faded. "It's gotten a bit bad. After his father's death, Banner went into hiding for a while. He's been found now and is being hunted across the globe."
