~Calix POV~
The highlands air was crisp, the morning sun barely cutting through the fog as I led Annalyn along a narrow trail. After last night's blowout with Ezra, I needed to get her alone, clear the air. Her scent was still heavy with heat, messing with my head, but I had to focus. That photo of her mom and Ezra had cracked something open, and I owed her the truth.
"You okay?" I asked, glancing at her. She was bundled in a jacket, but her eyes were stormy.
"No," she said flatly. "You knew about my mom and Ezra. Why didn't you tell me?"
I sighed, kicking a pebble. "I wasn't sure it mattered. It was years ago, before you were born. Ezra was exiled, and I thought it was ancient history."
"History?" She stopped, hands on hips. "My mom made some shady deal with your family, and you thought it wasn't worth mentioning?"
