Chapter 109 - The Bifang

In the past, there had been some wizards who were very knowledgeable in the field of Transfiguration who had suggested that the reason humans couldn't transform into magical creatures was that they were missing some necessary conditions.

However, even today, over 99% of wizards in the Harry Potter world have no concept of the term "magic power," and the magic power they use for spells is limited to their own reserves, with almost zero use of the raw magic power in nature.

For centuries, no wizard had been able to discover the existence of magic power, which prevented many Transfiguration Masters from finding that "necessary condition" and led to the wizarding world's unwavering belief that an Animagus could not transform into a magical creature.

At this moment, facing Victor's attempt to break a millennium-old rule, the professors were actually helpless. The first Animagus transformation was an extremely dangerous process, and being disturbed was the biggest taboo. One misstep, and the wizard could be left with a permanent disability or, even worse, turn into a monster.

Therefore, Dumbledore said, "Minerva, Victor's transformation has already begun. All we can do is hope that he succeeds and ensure that he is not disturbed! And I don't believe Victor would take such a risk without being absolutely certain."

Despite his words, Dumbledore's hand was still tightly gripping the Elder Wand, ready to step in and forcefully save Victor at the first sign of trouble.

In the center of the storm, Victor could clearly feel that his body could no longer withstand any more magic power. If this continued, the raw magic power that was already turning into a liquid would completely homogenize him. So, he decided to reconnect the magic runes for the Animagus transformation to complete the final metamorphosis.

As the magical structure was reassembled, the immense magic power began to convert and cause every cell in Victor's body to undergo a metamorphosis. Victor instantly felt as if his blood had started to boil. At the same time, he also felt that the image of the grey heron in his mind was beginning to change.

The heron's gray-blue feathers began to transform into a crimson-red color, and its beak gradually changed from yellow to white. Its body was also slowly growing, its form was somewhat similar to a crane, and its two slender legs merged into one.

As the image in his mind became clearer, Victor's body began to twist and deform. His limbs folded, his skin contracted, his bones shifted, and crimson-red feathers began to grow all over his body, with an unknown scarlet flame igniting around him.

The transformation process was excruciatingly painful. The tearing and burning sensation in his body made Victor feel as if he were in a sealed, high-temperature furnace, and he was on the verge of fainting.

But that wasn't the worst part!

The worst part was that an unusually violent consciousness also broke through the defenses of the Mind Ward. Victor was caught off guard and almost lost his mind.

"Merlin's beard, I've gone too far!" Victor cursed inwardly. This situation was completely unexpected, and he had now fully recognized the creature he was transforming into.

The Sankaikyō, Book of the Western Mountains, records: There is a bird whose form is like that of a crane, with a single leg, a crimson pattern on a blue body, and a white beak. Its name is the Bifang, and its cry is its own name. Wherever it appears, there will be a mysterious fire.

That's right, Victor was transforming into the Bifang, a bird that was somewhere between a demon and a god, recorded in the Sankaikyō, a book that had been passed down for over two thousand years and was known for its fantastical nature.

The creatures in the Sankaikyō were mostly apocalyptic-level monsters when placed in a mythological context. Now, a temporary magic-gathering circle was not enough to support him in completing the transformation, and the violent consciousness that surpassed that of a normal magical creature was very likely to overwhelm his sanity.

Sure enough, as Victor struggled to stay conscious, the magic-gathering circle began to show numerous cracks from being overloaded. If this continued, a major problem was bound to occur. Without a large amount of magic power to support the transformation, Victor might follow in the footsteps of those who had failed before him, turning into a mindless, deformed monster.

The instability of the magic-gathering circle caused the gathered magic to surge and scatter everywhere.

Dumbledore noticed the anomaly and immediately Apparated forward, ignoring the lightning striking all around. The four professors followed suit. Soon after, they arrived near Victor, having overcome several dangers. The extreme heat of the Bifang's scarlet flames made it impossible for them to get any closer.

Dumbledore looked at the collapsing magic-gathering circle and immediately said, "Everyone, we need to help Victor!"

With that, several threads of light containing the same memory floated out from the Elder Wand. The professors grabbed the threads, and a method for casting a spell immediately appeared in their minds.

Five white magic circles then lit up, and five bolts of white lightning shot out, forcefully stabilizing the magic-gathering circle, which was on the verge of collapse.

With the help of Dumbledore and the five professors, a massive amount of magic power continued to pour into Victor's body.

The unknown scarlet flame formed a fiery cocoon, and the Bifang's body gradually took shape.

After an unknown amount of time, a loud, clear cry pierced through the clouds. The scarlet fiery cocoon suddenly exploded, and countless sparks flew in every direction, setting the mountainside on fire.

The Bifang slowly spread its wings and soared into the sky, directly dispersing the funnel cloud above. A perfectly clear hole instantly appeared in the night sky, revealing a sparkling, jewel-like galaxy.

The Bifang flew under the stars, surrounded by an eerie flame, and it was at this moment that the members of Fairy Tail started to arrive. The fierce winds from the magical storm had made it impossible for them to move, and since Hogwarts Castle was a certain distance away, it had taken them some time to fly there.

"What is that?" Hermione asked in shock, looking at the Bifang in the sky. She had never seen such a strange bird.

"Could that be the Guild Master's Animagus?!" Harry asked, gazing up at it. "I don't think it could be anything else!"

And just as everyone was observing, a golden-haired figure suddenly flew out from the crowd and quickly headed in the direction of the Bifang.

"Luna, get back here!" Penelope yelled anxiously at the figure. It was Luna. None of them could be sure if the strange bird in the sky was Victor. If it were a dangerous magical creature, it would be too risky to rush toward it.

However, it was clear that Luna was a person who followed her own will. She didn't listen to Penelope's advice and flew directly toward the Bifang. The professors, who were observing the sky from the other side, also noticed Luna's figure.

I would've loved to change the name Bifang into Hippou, its name in japan, however, Hippopotamus would always come to my mind when reading Hippou.

Besides, Bifang sound cooler than Hippou, haha.

Sankaikyō also means Classic of Mountains and Seas, a classic chinese texts detailing mythological beasts. Sankaikyō is its romaji in japan.
