Chapter 1 - THE TEST AND AWAKENING

Arthur and Eli were twin brothers.

Born on the same day, yet they weren't the same

All people of this universe have at least one Thread linked to their soul; some have several

Eli had two Threads: one for manipulating gravity, and one for canceling powers for 10 seconds upon contact.

Arthur had no power.

No glow. No Thread. Nothing.

People referred to him as Null.

But he still arrived to fight. He had only two things: his axes and will to fight

The Warden Academy test was underway.

20,000 students had entered a massive battlefield.

Only 5,000 would pass.

The rest would perish.

The speakers cried out:

"This is a Battle Royale.

Survive for two hours.

Everyone is your enemy."

The horn sounded.

The battle commenced.

Arthur navigated the tumult quickly.

He gripped his twin axes tightly.

No powers, no tricks — just training.

A boy charged toward him with a glowing knife.

Arthur crouched low, spun, and struck the boy out with the back of his battle-axe.

Another flew at him with a spear. Arthur parried, then sent him into the mud.

His breathing was labored, but he stood firm.

Not too far away, Eli was being surrounded.

Three students had banded together on him.

One with thread of wind. Another had a metal whip. The third was controlling rocks with his fists.

But Eli remained calm.

He glided past them like water.

He slowed down rocks with his Thread of Gravity, for a split second — enough to avoid every blow.

Then he rushed against the whip wielder's arm ,made comtact— and his ability ceased.

Thread of Eraser.

No one could touch Eli anymore.

He defeated all three.

But someone else was observing.

Kaizan.

He floated above the field, fire burning in both hands. His red jacket glowed like it was alive.

He didn't care who Eli was.

He just saw someone strong.

And he attacked.

Eli didn't see him.

Kaizan flew down, building a fireball in his palm, aiming at Eli's back.

Arthur saw it.

His eyes went wide.

"Eli!"

He ran.

Kaizan released the fireball.

Arthur jumped in the way and slammed into Kaizan's arm — stopping the shot.

Their skin touched.

Just for a second.

But something had burned inside Arthur's chest.

Kaizan yelled, "Get out of the way!"

He hurled another fireball.

Arthur swung his axe without thinking.

FWOOSH!

Flames erupted out from the blade.

The fireball exploded in mid-air.

Smoke cleared.

Arthur stood there, staring at his own hands.

The fire had disappeared.

His axe was back to normal.

Kaizan floated back, astonished. "What the hell are you?"

Arthur looked equally bewildered. "I… don't know."

Eli turned around, surprised. "What was that?"

Arthur said nothing.

He didn't know either.

But something had changed.

He still looked like Null.

But now…

He had Fire.
