Chapter 4 - Discovery

Sparrow was quite happy, his brows had risen and he could already hear the songs of greed. Below them was a vast expanse of desert torrent winds stirring up devilish dust tornadoes and gusts of sand that skidded along great stretching dunes. Distant but present mountains stand out as if great rock had deemed itself too high to be covered in shifting sands. Instead cut by the world's winds seeming jagged like some old dead beast. Its atmosphere contains traces of oxygen and a lot of nitrogen. However that's not what drew his attention. It was the massive hulk of a half buried ship that drew his focus. From here it appeared like some sort of carrier. With various seeming hangers exposed across it and the size was astounding. Hell it felt similar.. like almost resembling the three interstellar carrier classes for the militaries. Just.. larger. Colossal almost.

Even so it was clearly ancient and in turn free for the taking. He could already imagine the amount of credits they could draw from this alone. "Ha.. This is our lucky day, take us in. Call the marines and scientists to the war room."

With a nod, an announcement was made. As the pilots prepared the ship for atmospheric entrance. They had already scanned the planet for possible life. However they had come up negative. At least surface side life was null. As to which the captain promptly took note of, it's good to be precautious. The only real 'sign' had been a faint echo. So miniscule that it came up as more so a minor error. The one that is often ignored.

Whilst a mission was underway and the ship broke atmosphere, a sense of excitement with an omen of workplace injuries brought the crew to apprehend the situation. Some felt off, a tinge of dismissed fear. A disregard of their most primal instincts.

With a large hulk of ruins long dead. The idea of hauntings still plagues the minds of mortal men even after reaching the stars. A hazard of knowledge so vague dismissing it as false is almost as heinous as saying it was true.

Unaware of the ships decent, Synthesis had been for the better part of a week using the data at hand. One of the things extracted was the blueprints to copious amounts of technology. Which allowed for it to start construction on power, after it had sifted out the required information. The machine had required the parts and proceeded to build. It did not need tools for its body as nanites made sure to give it all the tools needed.. a cheat really one he made sure to use.

Its first goal was to bring some of the ship's scanners online with what power could be conjured. An advanced version of a solar panel would do the trick and so now it was under construction. He could not build a massive one. But he could do at least three large grids. Each spanning four meters by three meters. With an efficiency of 68% double of what a normal version could hope to gather. There were ways to push that by a great deal. But he had not the components or time. It needn't be perfect yet simply functioning first.

It took days to finish the three large grids. Sealing the interals with weather proof glass, iron panels and outlets to allow the energy to be transfered. After a little bit of electrical work and the building of a small battery unit. The machine was elated to find a good bit of power pulling from solar panels.

However a double check proved even that much wasn't close to enough. Between the efficiency and its size only fourteen kilowatts could be produced at the height of the day. That is a combined total between all three. Witch wasn't enough by any standard, But it was a start. The fact he had power was a great victory of its own..

Synthesis expected at least fifteen more to maybe turn the lights on. Or power a few gadgets. If it was human or had the biological emotion geared towards the specifics of time. It would realize how tedious this is going to be. A drag of time it thankfully needed worry about yet.

Granted its computer mind was already aware if not planning ahead as this is too long. It didn't 'feel' like going without the ability to scan would be a good thing. Therefore it needed to go down another route. What if it built a small advanced reactor? Using the energy to jumpstart it?

It is plausible. However, don't those produce heat and evenual malfunctions? Given the energy used? Perhaps. But what kept this ship alive for hundreds of years? It is likely the ship used an advanced reactor that did not produce that much heat or if it did either a coolant was in place or another means to protect it from going critical. The machines mind begun looking at its blueprints and rapidly closing in on a reactor. There were multiple types based of the size or specifics of a ship. In this case. There was only one. Lots of the ship's decks were grinded into molten metal when it crashed. Reactors and all going with them. All except one.

The mid reactor, the most protected and used as some massive auxiliary. Like a buffer tank feeding the lines to keep them pressurized without a skip in its beat.

If he could get that running again then perhaps energy would finally be the least of its problems. Glancing over the map of the ship, Synthesis located the reactor and proceeded to enter the ship to reach out for it.

During the battle of this mothership and its escape. It is stated that all important parts were prioritized. Therefore the reactor was in fact one of those.

However upon locating the reactor, it seems even still it had damage. The reactor is a massive machine with blast resistant metal serving as its inner and outer casing. Large ribbed pipes run into the reactor along the top and bottom of the fifteen story machine. With these piping units feeding into two other four story machines. After some research, he finally looked at the reactor with knowing eyes. The reactor was damaged near the top and also from indirect causes. One of the top ribbed pipes had been broken. Whilst some of the blast resistant metal was deeply warped, likely an explosion. Whilst indirect its coolant system had been damaged and its controls also showed signs of damage.

He could only deduce, either a stray round entering the chamber or upon the crash of this vessel uncontrollable damages were loosed out. Either way the reactor was very much repairable. While the coolant could be replaced, it did seem this ship only had so much coolant left. Though interesting there was a recycling system for the coolant to 'recharge' however its quality will decrease and it's less effective. Perhaps serving as a backup. Like oil slowly being cycled into a lesser usable source.

Synthesis realized that a lot needed to be done. It wouldn't be as simple as he had hoped. Though as old as things have been perhaps he should have expected this model of damage. The recycle system needed to be checked and tuned up. Coolant tanks and pipes repaired, finally controls needed to be repaired and coolant refilled with whatever was left. It is estimated that months of time will be taken to repair this reactor. But in doing so a lot of its plans are still being worked out. could be put in place, should he spend that time. Albeit it won't be able to travel into space for a while it is still very much progress. He doubted he could ever launch the ship into space travel without great cost. No, he needed to be patient. And that he would be. Had to be…

With this in mind the Machine got to work. Unaware that in the future a ship would find its eyes on his home and its wonders. And so first contact would start messy as it should.
