Chapter 14 - CHAPTER FOURTEEN__"A Start Beneath the Silence"

The test was over. Students walked out of the hall calmly — some chatting, some rushing off like they had more pressing matters. Kamal stepped out too, quiet but alert, his eyes scanning the school grounds. His heart wasn't sure of anything, except the desire to see Zuhra.

Munir joined him shortly after, backpack slung over one shoulder.

Munir (looking at Kamal):

"You're still here? I'm surprised a girl could matter more to you than your test."

 Kamal (smiling without laughing):

"Maybe… maybe the test of the heart weighs heavier than the one on paper."

Munir burst out laughing.

 Munir:

"Well then, good luck. I leave you to your heart."

Kamal moved toward the spot where he had last seen Zuhra — near the library, a place where many students hung out or did research. Before long, he saw her again, emerging from a corridor, a paper in her hand, her face calm but clearly tired.

And there they were... John and Usman, following her like shadows. Even if they kept some distance, their eyes were sharp on anyone who got close to her.

Something stirred in Kamal's chest — courage, or recklessness. He knew there was danger in this, but his heart pushed him forward. He approached gently, his tone soft and careful.

 Kamal (gently):

"Zuhra…"

Usman shifted slightly to the left, watching Kamal with cautious curiosity. John raised an eyebrow, eyes fixed on Zuhra's face.

She stopped. She didn't turn, but she couldn't move forward either.

 Kamal:

"Maybe you don't care… but you look troubled. If there's anything I can do — I'd like to."

Zuhra slowly turned. Her eyes were on the verge of tears, but she held them back. John stepped a bit closer, likely sensing the commander's breath on his neck should anything go wrong.

 Zuhra (quiet voice):

"Thank you… but there's nothing."

She began to turn away, but Kamal couldn't let the moment slip by so easily.

 Kamal (soft but firm):

"Don't feel like you're alone in this world."

John stepped forward a little more, eyes locked on Kamal. Zuhra paused — then turned briefly to look at him. For almost three full seconds, she held his gaze. But she said nothing. She turned again, walking away with John and Usman silently escorting her like silent messengers of a bitter decree.

Kamal stood there until they disappeared from sight. He exhaled slowly, lowered his head — his heart swelling with emotions he couldn't name.

 Kamal (thinking):

"Well… it's a start. Maybe tomorrow."
