Chapter 4 - Sword

There is an open space in the castle's training ground that is specially used for sword training. Next to the open space is a wooden rack with a row of shiny long swords on it.

The guards usually use real swords for training, but they are not sharpened to ensure a certain degree of safety.

Hellagur and Emil each held a long sword and stood facing each other.

Emil personally taught Hellagur swordsmanship, which shows that he attaches great importance to it.

He said to Herag: "Swordsmanship is for killing the enemy. My swordsmanship does not have the fancy moves of court swordsmanship, and there are no unnecessary sword styles."

"Chop, cut, stab, pick, block!"

"These five words are the eternal foundation of all swordsmanship. As long as you practice these basics firmly, the rest is just a matter of cultivating combat experience."

Emile took a deep breath, raised his sword and slashed forward suddenly, the wind from the sword raised a cloud of dust.

His movements were so fast that if it weren't for the chip, Hellagur wouldn't be able to see Emil's movements clearly.

"This is normal speed. I'll slow down a bit from now on. Pay attention to the details of my movements. When you first start learning swordsmanship, don't focus on speed. You just need to do each movement well."

Emil slashed forward again, and this time Hellagur could see his movements clearly on his own.

"Try it." Emil said after the demonstration.

"Deep Blue, activate the sword training assistance."

A blue figure appeared in Hellagur's field of vision, demonstrating the key points of the chopping move.

He adjusted his movements according to Shenlan's instructions, then suddenly slashed forward with his sword.

"You're using too much wrist force. You should use more arm strength." Deep Blue immediately gave a hint and corrected Hellager's way of exerting force.

Emil also saw the problem and said, "The movement looks good, but you should use more of your arm strength. Try again."

Herag recalled the feeling just now, found the right point of force and slashed forward again.

"Very good! Next I will teach you a few other moves." Emil rarely smiled.

Herag spent the entire afternoon practicing basic swordsmanship, and his learning speed even impressed the usually serious Emil.

Herag never thought of hiding his incompetence. He came from a humble background, and only by trying his best to demonstrate his own value would he get others to invest more resources.

"You must continue to practice during this period. I will provide you with some opportunities to train later. Those who have never seen blood cannot become a knight."

In his mind, Emil had already been training Herag as a reserve knight.

"Thank you, Lord Emil! Thank you, Lord Baron!" Herag said gratefully.

After finishing a day of training, Hellagur received his salary from Butler Ivan as soon as he arrived at the cabin.

"Butler Ivan, there are five more silver coins." Herag opened his purse and found that his salary was more than before.

"Not much, Mr. Helag. Captain Emil reported your situation to the Baron and specially raised your salary." Ivan was a white-haired old man with a kind smile.

"Oh, I see..."

Emile never told this to Herag, perhaps because it was just a trivial matter in his eyes.

After receiving his salary, Herag went to the back garden carrying a jar of good wine he had bought.

"Old Henry, I brought you some wine!" He walked into the garden and saw old Henry lying on a chair with his eyes closed from a distance.

"What kind of wine?" Old Henry moved his nose but could not smell anything.

Herag put the wine next to the chair and said, "I don't understand either. Someone went to town for business and I asked him to buy it for me."

"Let me see." Old Henry perked up when he saw the wine. He stood up, picked up the jar, opened the lid and smelled it.

"This is the wine from Marco's family in town. Their wine tastes really good." Old Henry looked intoxicated.

"By the way, my salary has also increased. Now I get ten silver coins a month. I'll give you half of it!" Herag took out five silver coins and stuffed them over.

Old Henry said disdainfully, "I'm so old, what do I need money for? I can't even chew on meat and bones anymore. If I go to town to find a girl, she's afraid I'll die. When you're old, spending a lot of money doesn't feel the same as when you were young. You're still young, so spend the money and enjoy it. I only have wine."

When Herag heard what old Henry said, he remembered an ancient poem from his previous life: "I want to buy osmanthus flowers and carry them with wine, but it never feels like the time when I was young."

He suddenly thought of something and asked, "Old Henry, do you know how long a formal knight like Emil can live?"

"How old is he? There are very few knights who die of old age. Let me think, the ones I've heard of before seem to be only about a hundred years old. They lived a little longer and were stronger than ordinary people." Old Henry recalled.

"What about great knights like the Baron?" Herag continued to ask.

Old Henry took a sip of his wine and said, "The great knight is also a human being, all the same."

"Only about a hundred years old?"

Herag originally thought that the knight possessed extraordinary powers and could live for a long time, but he didn't expect that he could only live a little longer than an ordinary person.

"Old Henry, is there anyone more powerful than a knight?"

"More powerful?" Old Henry pondered for a moment. "Of course there are, but that's all legend. It's said that wizards are more powerful than knights, but wizards are very mysterious and no one knows if they really exist."

"Wizard..." Hellagur silently memorized the term.

It was late at night when Herag returned to his cabin, where he had spent the entire evening drinking with old Henry.

After he helped the drunk old Henry to rest, he still kept the five silver coins.

He is a grateful person.

Half a month later, at the castle training ground.

Herag, wearing armor, stood in a row with six other guards, waiting for Emir's instructions.

"A group of bandits appeared in the Pumpkin Farm. It is our responsibility to protect the safety of the people in the territory. The Baron ordered us to wipe out the bandits..." Emil talked about the situation of this mission.

Hellagur has been working hard to practice earth breathing and basic swordsmanship for the past half month, and today he finally has the opportunity to put it into practice.

"Although they are just a group of ordinary bandits, you can't take it lightly. You can die if you are stabbed by a knife!" Emile said some precautions.

Herag listened carefully, and he felt that the other six people did not take this matter seriously.

It is common to suppress bandits. Firstly, it is the lord's responsibility. Secondly, it is also an opportunity for the lord to demonstrate his strength and intimidate others.

This era was very chaotic, with frequent attacks between territories.

Every once in a while, Herag would hear about a territory being annexed or a famine occurring somewhere.

Once bandits enter your territory, they must be eliminated as soon as possible, otherwise others will think you are easy to bully and attract more and more bandits.

This time, the Emile personally led the team to eliminate the bandits, and together with seven castle guards, they formed the expeditionary force.

Herag was still a little unfamiliar with riding a horse, but fortunately he had some knowledge of riding in his memory. With the help of Deep Blue, he quickly learned how to control the horse.
