Walking into the fancy restaurant that he had made reservations in, the 6 feet tall man checked himself out in the mirror at the entrance one last time, ensuring that he looked fine. He combed back his freshly gelled hair lightly with his slender, long, and pale fingers, leaving the thin fringe of hair that naturally fell onto his forehead increasing his charm. Smiling he appreciated the fact that he indeed looked handsome today.
With almond-shaped honey brown eyes that resembled polished amber in the first rays of dawn and a smile that could put glistening stars to shame, the twenty-seven-year-old Felix Grayson looked like a piece of art, receiving glances and giggles from waitresses that walked around.
Shyly he walked towards the table that he had reserved for his special night. Taking a seat, he checked the pocket of his blazer, ensuring that he still had the black delicate velvet box with him. smiling, he couldn't believe It was finally happening, the day he had been eagerly waiting for. The day he was going to propose the love of his life, Nikita.
Felix wasn't a man born with a golden spoon. belonging to a middle-class family, all he had inherited from his parents was a notable IQ, making him get a scholarship at Harvard and completing his Ph.D. in Genetic engineering at the very young age of 24. Besides being a handsome hunk, he was an assistant professor at a college in Blechester. Within a short span of three years, Felix had managed to get himself an apartment in the heart of Brixton and a car. With the amount he earned felix tried his best to afford a very comfortable lifestyle and save funds for more future real estate investments. Everything seemed to be in his favor. For felix, it was the perfect time to start the next important chapter of his life; marriage. He and Nikita had been together for two years. With no prior dating experience, Nikita was the first and only love of his life. He was head over heels for her and eagerly wished to put a ring on her hand as soon as possible. Felix was sure that she was irreplaceable and someone that he had wanted in his life forever.
Sounds like the perfect fairy tale, right? Yeah... we will look into that later.
Nervously waiting Felix kept anxiously tapping his feet together. He smiled as he glanced at the gold ring that once belonged to his grandmother, a hereditary heirloom. It was the same ring that his grandfather and father had used to propose. Finally, it was his day to set it on the finger of the love of his life. He then glanced at his wristwatch.
"She might be here any minute." He mumbled and quickly placed the ring box back into the pocket of his black blazer.
Five minutes later, Nikita was there. Just four feet nine inches tall, she staggered on six-inch-long high heels trying to make up for her short height, swaying her hips from left to right as she made her way towards him. Dressed in an off-shoulder, cherry red short flair dress that Felix had gifted her on their anniversary, the petite girl finally managed to reach the table without falling.
"You look beautiful." Felix complemented her despite noticing her messy walk earlier.
"Your words are of no help. I am already pissed at you." Nikita arrogantly replied. Felix looked at her with visible confusion on his face.
"What is she angry about?" he wondered not knowing the reason behind her annoyed tone.
"You seem to act like you don't know the reason behind my frustration. How arrogant of you!"
"I honestly don't," Felix replied with his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Why the fuck are you dressed so well? Are you here planning to seduce naïve young waitresses?" Nikita screamed out in anger. Her yells were heard by many others in the restaurant. Many questionable stares arose in their direction.
Wondering about what actually happened? ...don't worry. Nikita was just being the insecure controlling bitch that she usually acted like.
Quite insecure of her short height and very ordinary facial features, she often compared herself to every girl she saw. Trying to cope with her anxiety, she had somehow developed a very toxic narcissistic personality. At the beginning of their relationship, Nikita was over the sky. Never had she thought that a 25-year-old handsome well-settled Ph.D. would take an interest in her, but slowly she was back to square one.
"what if he finds someone better?" the thought haunted her,
With almost fights every single day, she had finally convinced Felix to put no effort into his appearance, forcing him to wear big round nonprescription glasses everywhere around with his hair parted in the middle to make him look less appealing. She emotionally manipulated him into believing that no other female would ever actually like him. Felix although being a wise adult, was weak towards her tears and sweet talks. She had successfully trapped him into a very toxic relationship, controlling everything around him.
Jumping back to the present, by the time Felix managed to answer her questions, Nikita had already started shedding her crocodile tears, making him receive awkward glances from the people around.
"I am sorry." Felix softly worded out of embarrassment. The young man's intentions behind the effort that he had put into his looks were just to make the night a little more memorable.
"Your simple apology cannot undo the damage you have done to my feelings. You just wanted to make me feel insecure" Nikita was a master of manipulation after years of experience. Her tears made Felix's heart ache. Never had he thought that his simple gesture would cause him so much trouble. Not wanting to ruin the night, he comforted Nikita and apologized for his actions repeatedly, promising he wouldn't ever repeat the same mistake again.
Managing to put an end to her emotional melodrama, he ordered the waiter to bring their food. Although the start of their special night wasn't very pleasing, Felix was still determined to make the end better. As they waited for the food to arrive, Felix tried to hold small conversations with her to make the atmosphere a little less horrifying.
"This color looks pretty on you. Do you want me to buy you something else in the same color?" Felix slowly grasped her hand and gently caressed it with his warm, long fingers. He knew the way to Nikita's heart: shopping.
Spending a few dollars to see the bright smile on Nikita's face was almost a routine for him. With his other hand, he lifted the glass of water from the table to relieve his drying throat.
"dresses don't interest me anymore. They don't equal my worth. However, I think a cherry red car would suffice." Nikita bit her lower lip, glancing at him as she made her ridiculously expensive wish. Felix almost choked on his water as he heard the words escape from her mouth. He sure did earn good, but not enough to afford another car for his lover.
"Why not? Just give me some time." He smiled at her. He could never deny Nikita even though if it meant financial destruction. Nikita for quite some time had almost been acting like a bratty sugar baby, ready to throw her wish list at him every few days.
"You know I hate waiting. A friend of mine just received a mansion from her fiancé on their anniversary. A car doesn't cost much comparatively." Nikita whined.
"Darling, you know my profession. I am not a genie who can grant all your wishes at any given instant. Just give me a few more months, I promise to buy you the car of your dreams. " he said, trying to make her understand his situation. Just as he spoke, the waiter arrived with their order and started placing it on their table.
"Thank you Mr. Felix for your dose of reality. I think I no longer want one." She annoyingly replied and dug into the meat on her plate with pure frustration. Her mood was even worse. Nothing was working in Felix's favor.
The dinner was finished with dead silence and awkward glares. Nikita was now taking short sips from her glass of champagne.
Although the atmosphere was terrible, Taking a long sigh and with a beating heart, Felix pulled the jewelry box out of his pocket. Maybe the start was terrible, but he kept comforting himself with the thought that may be a long romantic night would dull the bitterness later.
He kneeled down on his knee and showcased the gold ring.
"I know I am annoying and a little too stubborn but I can't imagine living a life without you. I don't remember when I actually started feeling this way but somehow those green eyes of yours made me want to look at them until I grow tired. My heart yearned to see your smile and my ears longed to hear the sound of your laughter. You are the only person that I want to hold in my arms every night as I doze off to sleep and the first person I want to see lying next to me as I open my eyes. I cannot imagine a future without you. You are all that I will ever need. I also don't know what life has planned for us, but I think I can face the worst with you by my side." His voice shrilled as he spoke, tears ready to make their way out. he had spent days preparing the perfect speech
"Nikita shay...." He took a long pause and finally spitted the words that he had been wanting to ask:
"Will you marry me?"
To be continued............….
