Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Hunters of the Red Line

The Calm Before the Clash

The air above the sea was crisp, the kind that hinted at impending change. Beneath the glowing moonlight, Vegito stood at the prow of the Hyperion, arms folded, tail gently swaying behind him as he stared across the oceanic expanse. A new destination lay ahead: the Red Line — the colossal, blood-colored continent that split the world in two.

This chapter of his journey was not about conquest or domination. Not yet. Here, he intended to observe, to learn, and to test the resolve of his ever-growing crew.

A New Route, A New Threat

"Captain," Tashigi called softly, walking up from the lower deck. Her uniform had changed over time — less Marine, more free warrior. Her glasses glinted in the moonlight as she adjusted them. "We've intercepted another ciphered transmission. Cipher Pol presence near the Red Line is increasing."

Vegito didn't turn. "Good. Let them come. A little pressure might keep our blades sharp."

Tashigi gave a subtle nod, her respect for him having grown boundlessly. Despite how overwhelming his power was, he always listened, always let his crew grow. That made following him feel like choice — not submission.

He opened his Status Screen.

He smirked. The system kept rewarding him. But now it wasn't about getting stronger. He was strength incarnate.

Now it was about control. Mastery. Dominion.

Port Town Rivia – Edge of the Red Line

The Hyperion docked in a hidden cove just outside the port town of Rivia, a lesser-known smuggler's haven nestled against the Red Line's edge. Though small in scale, the town was thick with whispered rumors, Cipher Pol agents, revolutionaries, and bounty hunters with too many scars and not enough caution.

Vegito had no intention of announcing himself. Yet.

Instead, he wandered through the streets of Rivia under a cloak, with Nami, Robin, and Kuina accompanying him.

"You know," Nami whispered, eyeing the traders lining the alleys, "if I wasn't already a pirate, this place would turn me into one."

Robin smiled gently. "There's history buried beneath this town. Centuries-old. The walls whisper if you know how to listen."

Vegito nodded. "We're not here to cause chaos. Not yet. We gather information on Cipher Pol. Then, we find the secret port into Mary Geoise."

Kuina's eyes narrowed. "You still want to take another Celestial Dragon?"

"Not want. Need," he said calmly. "Each one represents a part of a dying world. If Imu is the root… the Dragons are the rot. And Shalria was only the beginning."

Shadows and Hunters

Later that night, under the glow of broken lanterns and the shadow of a massive lighthouse, the crew encountered their first serious obstacle: bounty hunters. Not the usual ones. These were ex-Cipher Pol, turned rogue, trained to kill pirates and vanish.

They made a mistake.

The ambush was sharp — poisoned arrows from rooftops, silent blades from fog-shrouded alleys. But Vegito didn't flinch. His eyes glowed a calm, golden hue as he let his Observation Haki flare.

"Three on the roofs. Two underground. One hiding in my shadow." He raised a hand. "Nami. Robin. Handle them."

Robin raised an eyebrow. "All of them?"

He nodded once. "Grow."

Robin's hands bloomed around the alley like lotus petals. In a blur of motion and cracks of bones, she disarmed, restrained, and incapacitated all six before the breath left their lungs.

Nami flipped her clima-tact. "We're getting good at this."

The final one, a former Cipher Pol 9 elite, stood quivering against the wall. Vegito approached him, cloak fluttering with each step.

"Who do you serve now?" he asked, voice sharp but not cruel.

"I-I work for no one! We were hired to test you… for Cipher Pol 0."

Robin frowned. "CP-0. That's the World Government's most elite group."

"They wanted to see… if the rumors were true…" he gasped. "About the monster in the East…"

Vegito placed a hand on the man's head.

"Let them know," he said softly. "The monster is coming to dine."

With a flash of light, he used Instant Transmission to appear back at the Hyperion, the girls following soon after.

A Moment of Calm

Back aboard, the mood was more relaxed.

Makino served drinks on the upper deck while Vivi looked over political maps of the Grand Line. Tashigi sparred with Kuina under weighted gravity bands, laughing as she narrowly dodged a high-speed blade strike.

Vegito stood with Robin and Nojiko in the observation chamber, looking out at the Red Line's looming cliffs.

Robin traced a finger along the map. "There's an ancient elevator system buried beneath this port town. Long forgotten — predates the Celestial Dragons. Could be our way in."

"And from there?" Vegito asked.

"We don't rush Mary Geoise. We slip in. Take what we want. Then vanish. Imu will move soon. But for now, we let fear do the work."

Nojiko smirked. "So... who's next on your throne-tipping list?"

Vegito's eyes narrowed.

"There's a prison near the Red Line. Hidden. Not Impel Down — deeper. Personal cells for nobles and slaves they don't want the world to see."

Robin blinked. "You're going to free them?"

"I'm going to find someone," he said.

Meanwhile… Atop Mary Geoise

Saint Jaygarcia Saturn slammed a hand on the golden desk. "Shalria is gone?! Not dead — worse! A slave? To a pirate?!"

"Worse than a pirate," murmured another Gorosei. "He calls himself Vegito. No lineage trace. No bounty in the records. But reports say he destroyed Alabasta's uprising, defeated Enel, and has stolen three Cipher Pol agents."

Saturn hissed. "Then it's time to bait him."

"And how do you propose that?"

A silence.

Then one whispered, "What if we... execute the Ohara remnant?"

Robin's name hung in the air.

Final Scene: The Deep Vault

Vegito sat alone in the training chamber, gravity weighing down on him 500x normal. His body didn't even tremble.

He closed his eyes.

He could feel them now. The world's forces moving against him. Bounties being raised. Traps being laid.

And yet... he smiled.

The System chimed softly.
