Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Echoes Beneath the Red Line

The descent into the unknown began in silence.

Aboard the Hyperion, Vegito stood with his arms crossed as the ancient elevator system, long buried under Port Town Rivia, began its slow, rumbling descent. Constructed from forgotten alloys and laced with old-world glyphs, the shaft plunged directly beneath the Red Line, toward a place the World Government had erased from all maps.

The crew had split up for this mission. Most remained above ground, blending into the smuggler's haven or surveying Cipher Pol movements. Only three accompanied Vegito: Robin, for her historical insight; Tashigi, for stealth and swordsmanship; and Conis, whose recently unlocked sound-based broadcast ability might prove vital in enclosed spaces.

The platform stopped with a hiss of ancient steam. Before them lay a sealed gate—one that pulsed with unnatural energy.

System Prompt: You are entering a Forbidden Zone. External communication disabled. Rewards boosted. Enemies: Unknown.

Vegito pressed his hand to the seal. It dissolved at his touch.

They stepped into a world untouched by time.

The Forgotten Vault

The corridors were carved from obsidian, walls lined with Poneglyph-like inscriptions — but these were twisted, corrupted, half-erased. The deeper they walked, the more the air grew heavy, not just in pressure but in memory.

Robin studied a sigil. "These are remnants of the Void Century... but rewritten. Like someone tried to forge history in the shadows."

"Why keep this place hidden?" Conis whispered.

Tashigi drew her blade. "Because what's down here doesn't want to stay locked away."

They reached a main chamber — a vast hall of stone coffins and broken chains. Vegito stepped into the center.

The temperature dropped.

From the far end, something stirred.

Chains rattled. A dull pulse echoed through the floor.

Then they saw her.

A woman suspended in a containment field of golden light — not old, but ageless. Her silver hair floated as if in water. Her eyes were closed, but tears trickled down her cheeks. She bore the tattooed crest of Ohara… and something else: the inverted sigil of the World Government.

Robin gasped. "No… That's impossible."

Tashigi looked confused. "You know her?"

"She was one of the great scholars… but she disappeared before the Buster Call. Her name is Lyra. She vanished centuries ago."

Vegito stepped forward.

The system chimed.

Entity Detected: [Lyra] – Stasis Prisoner Class Omega Status: Sealed by Order of Imu. Threat Level: High. Affinity: Potential Ally.

He reached for the seal.

Tashigi hesitated. "Captain, are we sure? If the Government sealed her—"

"I'm not afraid of their reasons," he said calmly.

With a wave of his hand, the stasis cracked. Golden threads unraveled. Lyra collapsed into his arms, cold but breathing.

Her eyes fluttered open. For a moment, she stared into his.

"...You're not supposed to exist," she said softly. "But you are… just like the legends said."

Secrets in the Stone

They retreated to a sealed side chamber, where Robin tended to Lyra. Slowly, warmth returned to her skin. Her voice, once fragile, grew stronger.

"I knew the truth… of the ancient weapons. Of Joy Boy. Of the betrayal that fractured the world. They sealed me because I carried the original chronicle. I was the chronicle."

Robin leaned forward. "You knew Joy Boy?"

"I loved him," Lyra whispered. "And now I see his echo… in you."

She looked to Vegito.

"You are different. More than a Pirate King… You are a Convergence. The last wish of multiple forgotten gods."

The Government Moves

Far above, Cipher Pol agents scoured the town. The Gorosei had ordered the execution of any known affiliates of the "Vegito Pirate Threat." Their presence became an iron noose.

But as they tightened their grip, a soft humming echoed across the sky.

Conis's voice.

Her Cloudsong Broadcast activated, playing the chime of the golden bell from Skypiea — a sound known to be linked to Joy Boy's return.

Panic spread. Cipher Pol agents froze.

Then came the image.

Vegito — carrying Lyra in his arms, standing atop the Hyperion.

A challenge to the world.

World Alert: Forbidden Vault Breached. The Pirate Vegito has awakened "Lyra the Chronicle." Government Emergency Status: Red.

Private Moment: Fractured Echoes

That night, as the ship soared away under stealth mode, Vegito stood alone on the observation deck. Lyra joined him, wrapped in a cloak.

"I was never meant to wake," she said.

"And yet, here you are."

"Because the world needs correction."

Vegito looked at her. "What happens if I succeed?"

"You won't just change history," she said. "You'll replace it."

She reached out, brushing his cheek.

"I will follow you, Convergence. Even if it means destroying what I once helped build."
