Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: The Purpose and the Solution

Planet of the Three-Eyed Clan

"I can tell that the star your planet orbits is nearing the end of its life, isn't it?" Son Gohan asked.

"That's right. And what is your purpose here, exactly?" King Tianmu's interest was piqued when he realized the stranger had seen through his greatest concern.

"To be frank, I'm here for the Thundersteel that will be born when your star collapses," Gohan said directly.

"Then I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. The star's destruction is still at least ten years away," Tianmu replied without anger. After all, the star's decline was undeniable.

"Which is exactly why I sought you out!"

"You don't mean…?" Tianmu's eyes widened.

"That's right. I don't have the luxury of ten years," Gohan said calmly.

"Hmph, impossible! My people haven't yet found a new home. If you destroy the star now, where would my people go? It's death either way, but if you insist on destroying it, you will be the enemy of the Eighty Billion of the Three-Eyed God Clan. We will fight you to the last!" Tianmu roared, his fighting spirit flaring. Even if he couldn't win, he wouldn't surrender so easily.

"The Three-Eyed God Clan does not fear death! If you want to destroy the star, you'll have to step over our corpses!" declared the Left Minister, stepping forward.

"That's right… for once, you and I agree!" added the Right Minister, also stepping up.

"Hold on, let's not be hasty. I think we can talk," came a sudden voice. The Grand Elder had spoken.

"Grand Elder, are you saying we should yield?" The Left and Right Ministers stared in disbelief.

"Nonsense! I've lived long enough, and my time is nearly up. Do you think I fear death?" the Grand Elder snapped angrily.

"Let's hear what the Grand Elder has to say," Tianmu said, still irritated, but choosing to trust him.

"Young friend, since you came to talk, I trust you must have a solution. May I ask your name?" The Grand Elder cupped his hands in greeting.

Seeing this gesture stirred an inexplicable warmth in Gohan's heart. This planet's culture reminded him greatly of Earth in his previous life. The Grand Elder's bow was especially reminiscent of the dynastic etiquette of ancient China.

"You can call me Son Gohan, a half-blood from Earth." He didn't hide his origins, even letting the tail around his waist unfurl.

"A half-blood… part Earthling, part Saiyan."

"Saiyans… Frieza's dogs!" the two Ministers blurted out.

"Watch your tongues! Silence!" the Grand Elder barked.

"It's fine," Gohan said, unfazed. "The Saiyans did serve Frieza once, but that was in the past. There aren't many Saiyans left now. My father was a Saiyan, my mother an Earthling."

"It has nothing to do with me what my father's people once did."

"Young friend Gohan, we haven't yet found a suitable home. Could you wait until we do before destroying the star?" the Grand Elder asked.

"No," Gohan answered bluntly.

Before they could get angry, he continued, "But I can help you find a new planet."

King Tianmu almost choked on his own breath, his anger forced back down. "Young friend, you have a bad habit of pausing at the wrong time."

"You called me young friend. You can tell I'm still a kid, can't you? Isn't it normal for a kid to tease a little?" Gohan said without the slightest shame.

If the Grand Elder wanted to lean on his age, Gohan would lean on his youth his vengeful streak showing clearly.

"…Cough. My mistake," the Grand Elder conceded.

"What exactly do you mean by helping us find a new home?" Tianmu asked, seizing the chance to break the awkward mood.

"I thought about it before coming. If your people were a cruel race, I'd have destroyed your planet outright. But since you're not, I'm willing to help," Gohan replied lightly.

Cold sweat broke out on every brow. Thank the stars they hadn't attacked him earlier otherwise, they'd be facing extinction already.

"And just so you know, the power I showed just now wasn't even close to my full strength."

"Not close? How much stronger?" Tianmu's eyes went wide.

"Oh… about fifty times what you felt earlier. Nothing too crazy," Gohan said with a casual wave.

The understatement was almost insulting.

"I believe you could destroy our world. In that case… please, help us find a new home," Tianmu said at last, no longer speaking of fighting to the death. That only made sense when power was comparable now it would be pure suicide.

"I've seen that your people's technology is advanced. You must have been tracking your star's lifespan and preparing for relocation already?" Gohan asked.

"That's right. A thousand years ago, our Ninth King began preparations. We've built enough ships to carry all eighty billion of us, along with preserved plants and animals. We've created a complete ecosystem," the Grand Elder revealed.

"Then it's simple. Have you heard of the North Kai?" Gohan asked.

"Our records mention him the overseer of the entire North Galaxy. Of course we've heard," Tianmu said quickly.

"In a sense, he's my teacher. I can ask him to help find you an uninhabited, habitable world. Then you can migrate there yourselves," Gohan suggested.

"That would be wonderful. To be honest, we've explored many planets over the centuries. Most were too harsh, or already inhabited. We didn't want to start wars," Tianmu admitted.

"That's right. Before you arrived, we'd even considered buying a world from Frieza's army," the Left Minister added.

"Frieza? You've been in contact with him?" Gohan's brow furrowed.

"Not yet, only planning," the Left Minister said.

"I'd advise against it. In Frieza's eyes, your people are just another race to be used in war. The Saiyans are proof. I can tell you this Planet Vegeta's destruction was Frieza's doing. I wasn't born there, but by blood, I'm his mortal enemy. If you side with him, you side against me." Gohan's voice carried a deadly weight, his aura chilling the air.

"No, no we wouldn't unless we had no choice. And now, with your help, there's no need," the Grand Elder said quickly.

"Good. Make your preparations. I'll head to King Kai's planet and ask him to find you a suitable home," Gohan said, vanishing with Instant Transmission.

Tianmu immediately issued urgent orders to gather the entire population for evacuation.

They had practiced the process before, but when the moment truly came, the planet was still thrown into chaos. Fortunately, as one united race, they avoided any serious internal conflict.
