Chapter 697 - Chapter 697

"Spider-Man!" Captain America cried out, but it was too far—he couldn't reach in time.

Spider-Man's spider-sense blared like a siren. He twisted hard and fired a web to the ceiling, trying to change direction—but the tentacle was far too fast. The horrifying suction generated by those suckers even interfered with his swing. He was about to be wrapped up by that slimy, mucus-coated tentacle—

Whoosh!

A bald figure appeared beside the tentacle as if he'd teleported.

It was Saitama!

He didn't even use his fist. He simply raised his hand casually and brought a hand-chop down.

Slash!

That terrifying tentacle—tough enough to crush steel—was severed on the spot! The cut tentacle thrashed wildly, spewing huge amounts of ink-black fluid. The octopus monster's main body let out a silent, agonized shriek and instantly retracted back underground.

Saitama landed and stepped in front of Spider-Man. "You okay?"

"I-I'm okay! Thanks, Saitama!" Peter said, still shaken.

That strike not only saved Spider-Man—its violent force also shook apart the collapsed boulders ahead, exposing more than ten narrow cracks that looked like they might lead somewhere.

"This way." Saitama pointed at the rift.

No one hesitated. They squeezed into the crack.

But it wasn't a way out.

It led to another, slightly smaller cave—still filled with monsters and spatial rifts. They'd only escaped one dead end and stumbled into another, slightly less hopeless dead end.

New monsters immediately lunged in. The breakout route seemed endless. Hope was razor-thin. Every step carried huge risk and constant drain. Everyone's stamina, ammunition, and magic power were dropping at a terrifying rate.

A sense of despair began to spread.

Just as the team got bogged down in brutal fighting—almost about to be drowned by the monster tide—Saitama's pace even slowing because he had to protect his teammates—

A dazzling crimson light, filled with chaos and reality-rewriting power, suddenly pierced out from one side of the cave wall like dawn breaking through the night!

That light wasn't a simple energy blast. It carried a rule-like force of "denial" and "reshaping." Wherever it passed, the raging dark energy was temporarily erased as if wiped away by an eraser. The ferocious monsters rushing in became sluggish and stiff in an instant, like they'd fallen into invisible mud. Some structurally unstable monsters even began to fall apart on their own!

"This is…" Doctor Strange felt the familiar yet overwhelmingly powerful magical fluctuation, and a flash of delight crossed his eyes.

Next, the cave wall rippled and dissolved in the crimson glow like an illusion, opening a short-lived passage. A figure in a red coat floated in, long hair swirling, surrounded by powerful chaos magic—

It was the Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff!

"Looks like I'm not too late," Wanda said. Her voice carried a hint of exhaustion, but even more resolve. She swung her hands, and more crimson energy surged like a wave, forcibly suppressing a huge area of monsters ahead, even sealing several tiny spatial rifts shut.

"Wanda!" Captain America let out a long breath. "It's good to see you!"

"I sensed an unimaginable eruption of dark energy under this city," Wanda explained quickly. "Even Kamar-Taj's warning array was triggered." Her gaze swept over her battered but not critically injured teammates, then finally landed on Saitama—especially the cube in his pocket that was still leaking a faint glow. Her brows tightened. "Was it that thing? That's a terrifying source of darkness…"
