Sapphire P.O.V.
It suddenly became dead silent. It was so silent that you can hear a pin drop until Mr. Giovanni said "well are any of you going to tell me why you are talking here and wasting time instead of working" with a piercing stare that had me trembling from where I was standing. He had the most intimidating grey eyes that I have ever seen. He is even more handsome in real life compared to his photos I saw on the internet. He has a strong jaw, sharp nose, high cheek bones and chiseled chin that look like the Greek god statues that I saw in a movie.
The leader of the pack of ladies (that's what I am going to call her) stutters, too scared to speak. But then Catherine interrupts her. "I was just showing the new secretary around the office, so she knows where to go if she needs something" she explains. He turns his piercing gaze on me. "You're the new secretary?" he ask a fraction softer tone then he used just now.
I don't know if I am imagining this or not, but I saw something flash in his eyes before he harden his expression when he look at me for the first time. I ignore it and answer him with a "yes sir" without stuttering. I was proud of myself for not appearing weak and gave myself a mental pat on the back. Even though I am dead scared of him, I am not going to show it.
"I am sure Catherine has shown all that you are require to do?" he asks with a voice void of emotion and strictly business just the way I like it. "Yes sir" I answer with the same tone of voice he uses. He gave a slight nod at me
"Good. You can start by sorting all the files that will put on your table in a minute and hand it to me by lunch time. Understood?" with tone that leaves no argument. "Yes sir. I will have it ready on your table by lunch time" with a confident voice that leaves no doubt. He nodded and turned his attention to the pack of ladies. "I better not find you slacking again or else there will be consequences. Am I clear?" he told them in a severe tone.
The ladies just nodded their head like a bubble heads. I stifle a chuckle at my thoughts. He then turns and walks away to his office with the other workers makes sure to stay out of his way, his aura was that intimidating. After that small incident everyone continued their work as if nothing happened. I guess situation like this happens a lot. "Thank you so much for all your help, Catherine. I will be going to my desk now".
"No problem. See you at lunch?".
"Sure"
With that I walk to my desk without acknowledging the pack of ladies and acting like they don't exists. As soon as I sat on my chair, a lady came to my desk to pass me a pile of files that I needed to sort out. She explains how I need to sort the files, and I thanked her before she left. I manage to finish sorting out all the files that was on my desk with 10 minutes to spare. My stomach was growling with hunger, so I gather all the files and make my way to Mr. Giovanni's office.
I knock on his door and wait until I hear him say "come in" then I open the door seeing him sitting behind a mahogany desk signing some documents. "Excuse me sir. I have the files that you wanted". He looked up then. "Yes. Give me the files" while tapping on his desk. I made my way to him trying not tremble from the proximity to him.
Once I was close enough, I put the files on the table while making sure my hands didn't tremble and drop the files. He browse over the files with an expressionless face. "Good work. Now all I need you to do for the rest of the day is to sort my schedule. Make sure to give the VIP priority and the rest schedule it for another time. Ask Miss Catherine for the lists of VIPs that needs priority." he instructed me with his intense gaze as if he is trying to put me in a memory.
I shook that thought away and replied to him with a "yes sir". He nodded then dismisses me. I walk as quickly as was possible out of his office and to my desk. Once I am seated on my chair, I let out a sigh. That was so scary I almost hyperventilated. I shook my head and focused on my computer to see if I had any emails to sort out when Catherine came to my desk.
"Hey its lunch time. I am starving. Let's go eat" she taps my desk. I chuckle at her. "Okay! Let's go" I said while saving whatever I was doing and switching off the computer. Grab my wallet, phone and got out of my seat. Together Catherine and I went to the elevator. We made small talk while we waited for the elevator and once it arrived, we entered and waited a few minutes to reach our floor.
The lift opened with 'ding' to our floor, so we walk out and head to the front entrance of the reception hall. Once we were out of the building Catherine took me to this cute little café that she always go to that have the best food. We grab a seat near the window. The waitress came and asked us for our order. I ordered the beef burger and watermelon juice while Catherine ordered the lasagna and apple juice. After the waitress left with our orders, she ask me "How is working with the boss so far".
"It's okay but a bit intimidating".
"Yeah, that's what all the previous secretary says" she nodded.
"Is he really as strict and ruthless as he is rumored to be?" I ask her nervously.
She thought about it. "Not really. If you do your job without stupid mistakes and hand it on time you will have no problem". I nodded relief to hear that.
"You should watch out for Veronica" she told me. "Who?" I ask confused as to who she was referring to. "You know the leader of the ladies that made a scene this morning" she explained. "Oh her" remembering the incident this morning. "So that's her name so typical" I roll my eyes. (No offence to all the Veronicas out there)
"Yeah her. She and her pack are the reason the entire previous secretary quit" she warns me. "And I am pretty sure they have something in store for you. So that you will quit the job. She was quite pissed with your attitude this morning and I heard her talking to the others on how she was going to teach you a lesson you will never forget " she says with concern in her voice. "Oh, don't worry about me I can handle them. I had to deal with her kind of people since I was in middle school" I reassure her.
She didn't look to convince but drop the subject and talk about what to expect when working in our office and what not to do so that I won't rub people the wrong way. Well Veronica is another matter as she rubs everyone else the wrong way. After we finish lunch with her insisting to pay, I let her, and we went back to the office and going our separate way when we reach the 39th floor to go to our desks.
So, for the rest of the day, I was just sorting out his schedule and emails. When the clock on the office wall strikes 5 o'clock I tidied my desk and save the entire document on the computer and then switch it off. I grab my handbag and phone got out of my chair and went to Catherine's desk to say goodbye and then went to the elevator.
The elevator was cramp because there are a lot of people that are all going home at this time. I was glad when the elevator finally reaches the ground floor and opens with a 'ding'. I rush out the building only pausing to say goodbye to Sarah. Once I reach my car, I open the door sat on the driver seat and lightly throw my bag on the passenger seat. I switch on the engine and drove out the car park.
I reach home at about five twenty. I was careful this time. Waiting a bit before opening the door incase my friend wants to surprise me again. She wasn't here. I check all around the house and it was empty. So, I relax walking to my bedroom picking out my pajamas that I am going to sleep in and going to my bathroom to have a nice long bath.
I was just coming out of my bathroom when I hear the doorbell ringing. I walk to the front door and peep through the peephole. I saw that it was Bethany, so I opened the door and let her in. She rushed inside the house and quickly closed the door. I was stunned by her actions as she never done this before. I look closely at her, and she looks panic and looking behind her shoulder as if she was running from someone. Once she closes the door she collapse in a heap by the door.
I am staring at her in shock and concerned about her well-being. Once she realizes that she is inside my house she let out a sigh of relief and walk to the living room and fell on the couch. "What the hell happen to you?" I ask her worried and confuse about her behavior.
She never acts like this before. I was worried if something bad happen to her and I wasn't there to help her. She took a deep breath. "I'm in deep shit" with the most serious voice I have ever heard her use, so I know she wasn't joking. "What happened?" I repeated. She took another deep breath. "I may have involved myself with someone that is a psychopath" her voice was trembling at the end.
I went to hug her and tell her that everything is going to be alright. That we will figure this out together and that she was not alone. I know that she is seeing someone right now but from the picture that I saw of him he looked like a decent guy, but I guess looks can be deceiving.
"What happen when you went out with him" I ask her gently. Needing to know what happen to her and how dangerous he is.
"Th-the date w-was fine enough bu-but when we were heading ho-home he-he" she stutters and breaking out in a loud sob, so I told her she does not have to tell me now. I told her to take a shower and sleep here. She did walking like she had no energy to the guest bathroom. I shook my head worried that this problem will traumatize her until she cannot trust any guy.
I made sure to tuck her in bed and that she is comfortable before going to my own room determine to know what happen to her tomorrow when she is calmer. As I lay down on my bed, I let out a tired sigh as so many things happened after I started the new job, and I was hoping for this new chapter of my life to be stress free. Whatever I will think of something to take care of the of the problem in the office the pressing issue right now is to help Bethany so that she is not in a danger from her date.
With that thought I fell into a restless sleep.
