Chapter 46 - Chapter 45: Hatred and Family Love

In the activity area of the mountain base, a group of children, aged between 8 and 16, were playing games. This was the only time they were allowed to move around each day, and it was the quickest time to pass.

Naturally, a few children weren't very happy. When a large group of people are forced together, they form small groups, either for warmth or self-preservation. These older children who formed groups would often bully the younger, isolated children to feel a sense of power. In this place without sunshine, without hope, and where death was a constant possibility, they were slowly becoming twisted and crazy. The strong will always attack the stronger, but the weak will only attack the weaker. This is human nature.

The twelve-year-old twins, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, stood at the edge of the activity area, leaning against each other. They coldly watched the children being bullied without any emotional reaction. At this moment, the twins only had each other. They had no interest in bullying others; they just wanted to gain power, even if it meant being used as research subjects. They did it solely for the flame of hatred that was forever burning in their hearts.

Outside the venue, fully armed, expressionless soldiers monitored the children in silence. No one noticed that two strange figures were standing on an open patch of ground nearby, as if no one could see them. Their eyes swept through the children in the venue one by one until they finally landed on the twins leaning against each other at the edge.

Pietro did not seem to notice that his sister suddenly looked up, her eyes full of confusion, and finally fixed on the two figures, staring directly at them. Kaecilius let out a small "Huh," looked at the girl, and his expression changed.

Ophelia focused on the girl. She saw the girl in the white lab coat, her eyes filled with a dead silence, coldness, and hatred.

"Did this girl find us?" Ophelia turned to Kaecilius. The two of them were currently in the Mirror Dimension, a magical space parallel to the real world. People in the real world should not have been able to see them. How could this girl ignore that rule and see both her and Kaecilius?

"I feel a special power within her that I've never seen before. It hasn't been stimulated yet, but she is a natural-born magician. No wonder the master paid special attention to her." Kaecilius stared at Wanda, his voice full of shock. As a master of the mystic arts, he had never seen a twelve-year-old girl who could see through Mirror Dimension magic without any prior training. Although the power within the little girl was still weak and deeply hidden, it was extremely powerful and unprecedented.

Kaecilius's mind raced, recalling information from all the magic books he had seen. A type of power came to mind, and he looked at the little girl with a new look of doubt. He decided not to say anything and walked directly toward the little girl. Ophelia raised her eyebrows and followed behind.

The two of them walked right in front of the girl, who continued to stare at them. Wanda tensed and clenched her fists, feeling nervous and confused.

"Who are you?" the little girl asked timidly, tilting her head up. Her words caught Pietro's attention. He looked at Wanda with a confused expression.

"My master wishes to see you," Kaecilius said in a calm tone, with a rare hint of gentleness.

"Master?"

"Wanda?" Pietro was startled by Wanda talking to the air and whispered her name. Wanda ignored him because she saw the handsome and charming uncle nod. "Yes, my master."

"Why does your master want to see us?" the little girl asked persistently.

"Because my master is God, the supreme God. He saw that you are very special and hopes that I can take you to him."

"God?"

The little girl grew excited, ignoring Pietro, who was panicking and didn't know what to do. Her eyes widened. "Is God here to save us?"

Perhaps due to Wanda's strange behavior and raised voice, it attracted the attention of the HYDRA soldiers who were monitoring them from a distance. Three of the soldiers walked straight over.

"Wanda, stop talking," Pietro whispered, pulling on her hand. The sight of the three HYDRA soldiers walking towards them filled his heart with fear.

"What are you doing?" In Wanda's astonished eyes, three HYDRA soldiers stood in front of her. Their figures overlapped with those of the uncle and the beautiful aunt, making them look blurry and unreal from her perspective.

Without getting an answer from Wanda, one of the HYDRA soldiers glared and reached out to grab the little girl. Pietro bravely stepped in front of his sister, opening his hands. Although his face was still full of fear, a stubborn look was visible beneath it.

"You little brat." The HYDRA soldier didn't care. He grabbed Pietro by the collar and lifted him, but before he could do anything else, a slender, fair hand grabbed his wrist. The hand then shook with a force that the soldier couldn't match, throwing him like a cannonball against a nearby wall. With a "bang," a large, bloody mark appeared on the wall as his body crumpled to the ground.

The sudden commotion drew the attention of all the HYDRA soldiers and the experimental children in the activity area.

"Enemies have invaded! Kill them!"

Seeing two strangers suddenly appear out of thin air in the venue, the HYDRA soldiers reacted quickly, drawing their weapons and pointing them at Kaecilius and Ophelia, ready to pull the trigger. The base's alarm instantly blared, and the white lights turned red.

Unfortunately, the enemies they faced were no ordinary people. Ophelia, who had just thrown the soldier, caught Pietro, who had been nearly tossed aside, and gently placed him on the ground. She ignored the HYDRA soldiers aiming their weapons at them. Bending down and looking at the little girl, a smile appeared on her charming and delicate face. She reached out and used her index finger to smooth the girl's small eyebrows, which were furrowed with worry for Pietro.

"The love between family members in the darkness is truly enviable."
