Luna's POV
Luna felt her heart shatter as the words left her lips.
"I release you from our bond."
The moment she and Sunny spoke those terrible words together, pain shot through her chest like lightning. Their magical connection, which had been warm and comforting for so long, suddenly felt like it was being ripped out of her soul.
"It's working," the Shadow King said with satisfaction. "The bond is breaking."
But something was wrong. Instead of their connection simply fading away, Luna felt like invisible hands were grabbing her spirit and trying to tear it in half.
"This hurts too much," she gasped, falling to her knees on the mountain summit. "Breaking a bond isn't supposed to feel like dying."
"All change involves pain," the Shadow King replied, but his voice sounded different now. Less concerned, more eager.
