"This is exactly what I wanted to ask you."
"You really had no idea there were so many Skrulls hiding on Earth?"
Tony Stark's voice rang out as he stared intensely at Fury, demanding answers.
Even the playboy was completely shocked upon discovering this truth.
The sheer number was terrifying.
"Stark, what exactly is going on? Tell me."
Fury wasn't in the mood for Tony's usual quips. His expression was grave as he pressed for answers.
Tony understood the severity of the situation, so he didn't waste time and got straight to the point with Fury.
"Just ten days ago, I thought the Skrulls hidden on Earth were only the few hundred I had found."
"Of course, that wasn't all of them. I had searched for half a year and only found a few hundred. Even if there were more I hadn't discovered, how many could there really be?"
"But then, ten days ago, I accidentally discovered a Skrull who went to a very strange location."
"JARVIS!"
With Tony's command, JARVIS immediately projected the footage in front of Fury.
"Familiar, isn't it? This place."
Tony crossed his arms, glancing at Fury with confidence. With his experience, Fury would surely recognize the location in the video.
"This is…"
Fury quickly realized where it was and his expression grew increasingly incredulous.
"That's right. This is the nuclear power plant that was abandoned after the accident!"
Tony confirmed firmly.
"After the accident, this place was restricted. Even if it wasn't, no one would dare approach it."
"That's why I was curious why this guy would go into a radiation zone."
"Then I put him under close observation. And do you know what I discovered?"
"Nuclear radiation doesn't affect him at all!"
As Tony spoke, Fury's face grew grimmer and grimmer.
Even with Tony's explanation, it wasn't hard for Fury to deduce the truth.
These Skrulls were hiding in radiation zones!
They hadn't fully integrated into human society.
"How many Skrulls are in there?"
Fury paused before asking.
"About five thousand, but…"
JARVIS immediately projected other locations.
All of them were abandoned nuclear plants or facilities that had experienced leaks.
In short, every place was a radiation zone, dangerous for humans.
The truth finally became clear.
Fury understood why tens of thousands of Skrulls could appear on Earth without anyone noticing.
They had found the perfect hiding places.
After all, who would check the nuclear zones?
Who would think people could hide there?
Yet the Skrulls weren't afraid of radiation at all.
This was something Fury hadn't anticipated.
Wait a moment!
Suddenly, Fury remembered something, and his face fell completely, as if he had been slapped hundreds of times.
If Skrulls aren't affected by radiation, occupying Earth would be far too easy.
Just launch nuclear weapons, and Earth would become a Skrull paradise!
For the Skrulls, achieving this would be effortless.
They could replace key personnel along the nuclear launch chain, or even orchestrate a nuclear war behind the scenes.
In short, given their abilities, they could execute this easily.
Fury swallowed hard.
"You thought of the same thing, didn't you?"
Tony, seeing Fury's expression, knew he had connected the dots.
This was also what Tony had been worrying about.
Initially, after learning about the Skrulls' abilities from the diary, Tony thought the worst-case scenario was simply replacing the leadership.
Humans would be unknowingly ruled by Skrulls.
But now, Tony realized the threat was far greater.
This was a group capable of wiping out humanity.
"When exactly did this happen?"
Fury's brow furrowed tightly.
When did tens of thousands of Skrulls infiltrate Earth? How did they do it without anyone noticing?
Such a massive operation couldn't have happened without careful planning.
"Were the materials I gave you related to this?"
"Who was that Skrull that went to the nuclear zone?"
"Is Talos involved?"
After thinking, Fury asked Tony a series of critical questions.
"From what I've observed, Talos probably isn't involved… at least as of now."
"But there's one guy I'm sure is behind all of this."
Tony pointed to one Skrull in the data.
Fury glanced at it and was surprised.
Gravik?
He hadn't expected it.
Fury had suspected Talos and others, but Gravik—who had been loyal and heavily influenced by Earth's culture—was the last person on the list.
Yet it was Gravik.
It had to be noted that in Secret Invasion, Talos had admitted on the train that after Fury left Earth, he sent a signal to all Skrulls to come to Earth.
That caused the massive hidden Skrull population.
But Talos didn't know that Gravik had already done this before.
Otherwise, the infiltration couldn't have reached such scale in just a few years, replacing leaders like secretaries and prime ministers.
Talos wasn't lying either.
He genuinely thought Fury would not return to Earth, so he sent out a call to save the Skrulls.
That was only the second wave.
The rest was classified.
"This person is likely the leader of these Skrulls."
"None of the others seem aware of this."
Tony explained further.
"Gravik, huh… I really didn't expect that."
Fury stared at Gravik, sighing.
"So that's it? I was waiting for more!"
Tony, seeing Fury's sigh, asked, "What's your plan to deal with this?"
Yes, how to solve it?
Even Fury, with his experience, had no immediate solution.
There were tens of thousands of Skrulls, or tens of thousands of shape-shifting superpowered threats!
Fury wanted to eliminate them, but that was unrealistic.
Besides, acting like that would lose Captain Marvel's trust, maybe even lead to conflict with her.
"Do you have any ideas?"
After a pause, Fury looked at Tony.
Tony naturally spoke, "The diary said the Secret Invasion happened because you treated Skrulls like idiots."
"You promised them things but gave no real benefits."
Fury was speechless.
"Stark, do you know what they want? A home!"
"How can I find them a home?"
Fury argued convincingly.
"Since you can't, why promise them anything?"
Tony retorted, annoyed, "Secret Invasion is your own fault!"
The playboy was right.
Fury caused Secret Invasion, Tony caused Ultron; who was the bigger threat to Earth?
"Nick, I have a question."
Tony asked seriously, "According to the diary, their civilization is far more advanced than Earth's. There are tens of thousands left. They can secretly travel to Earth without being detected. So why rely on a low-level agent to find them a home?"
Tony was puzzled.
Earth hadn't reached a spacefaring era, so expecting Fury to find a new home was absurd.
Fury couldn't answer.
"This isn't about the invasion—it's about solving the Skrull problem."
"Their presence on Earth is unacceptable."
Tony was firm: Earth isn't meant for the Skrulls.
Driving them away was the only solution.
But how? Tony and Fury both pondered deeply.
Then Tony had an idea.
"Nick, don't you have a pager?"
Tony looked at Fury.
"Captain Marvel is cosmic; she's an S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. She might be our only chance."
Fury's eyes lit up.
Tony's suggestion was the only feasible plan.
Given S.H.I.E.L.D.'s resources, only Danvers could potentially relocate the Skrulls to a new planet.
The tens of thousands of Skrulls were a global threat, so it was an emergency.
Fury returned to the Triskelion and used his pager.
He sent the signal.
The screen flickered, pixelated and retro, then went dark.
The signal was sent. Whether Danvers received it was unknown.
Fury went back to his work.
Seven days later, Fury was walking home after a day's work.
A familiar yet unfamiliar voice called from behind.
It was familiar because he recognized it, yet unfamiliar because he couldn't be sure.
Sure enough, turning around, he saw a confident woman with golden hair smiling at him.
Not Danvers?
"It's been a long time, hasn't it? Danvers?"
Fury surveyed Captain Marvel with awe.
She hadn't aged a day, while he had grown older.
"In fact, I didn't realize until I saw you," she said, smiling.
Captain Marvel walked over.
She looked the same as when she left, highlighting Fury's changes.
"Your eye?"
She glanced at Fury's eye with curiosity.
Their past missions made their interaction relaxed.
Fury's lips twitched.
"That's not a good memory—let's not talk about it."
He changed the subject, inviting her:
"You must have forgotten the taste of Earth food."
"Indeed!" Captain Marvel laughed.
The two walked to a nearby restaurant, chatting and reminiscing.
