Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Fate? I'm the fate

Revenge Rule #3: Feelings don't matter.

Lilac's voice broke him out of his reverie, "Then call me Lilac instead of Miss Callen Alex."

Fuck..the way she said his name.

He forced a calm smile, "I will."

They didn't speak after that and danced silently in harmony. She clenched her jaw forcing her muscles to relax, with every spin and every movement she forced herself not to flinch away from his touch.

Lilac broke the silence, "You're married right?"

Alex so badly wished he could deny it but he had to nod, "Yes."

"Oh."

Alex pulled her in a lot closer, "Why? Does it bother you that I'm married?"

'Yes you fucking pervert' His grip was strong and the smell of his perfume made her stomach churn.

"Bother me? Why would I be bothered by that? We're just dancing." She did her best to make her smile look as bright and harmless as possible. She had practiced in front of the mirror for days but she was not a professional actress.

Alex was about to say something but the song abruptly ended. Lilac exhaled in relief and tried to pull back but his grip on her waist did not loosen.

"Can I have your name card..Lilac?"

"Unfortunately I don't have one, Alexander…however…." Trying to hide her aversion she lightly brushed her fingers over his neck distracting him enough for his grip to loosen, "We'll meet if fate allows us to..Goodbye Alexander."

With a causal backhand wave she headed outside. Alex stood there for a second letting the feelings of her touch wash over him for a second.

In a brightly lit bathroom Lilac ran her hands, lathered with soap, under cold water repeatedly. Almost furiously she scrubbed each finger scratching her hands trying so hard to get rid of dirt that wasn't even there.

Alexander Dey was not her main target but she needed him to gain access to her target. Fuck, she wished she could do this some other way without being involved with a lustful motherfucking asshole.

Her phone pinged while she was rubbing her hands dry, her uncle sent her a text message.

[Ezra: Are you Alright Flower?]

That nickname caused a smile to flicker across her face. She quickly replied, heading back to the main hall.

[You: I'm fine Uncle. I want to leave so badly]

Even though he was probably meant to be giving a speech his reply came almost instantly.

[Ezra: Then leave. I'll get the driver to send you home]

She couldn't help smiling brighter, her uncle was such a kind and gentle person…well mostly to her.

[You: It's fine. I'll just take a cab]

[Ezra: No. You know what? Wait in my office, I'll drive you home myself.]

She wasn't in the mood to argue so she told him okay. Instead of going back and having to deal with Alex and his gaze she headed to his office. EZV's building was right beside the event center, it was where Ezra hosted events and showcases.

The outside breeze made her shiver, she quickened her pace and entered the EZV building. The elevator took her to the top floor, Ezra's office. Everyone had clocked off work so she was the only one in the building. Ezra's office was obviously the president's office with how huge it was. Behind his brown wide desk and a sleek black swiveling chair stood two floor-to-ceiling windows. Their curtains had been drawn back letting the moonlight seep in, it cast silver streaks across the floor painting everything in a soft glow. If you stood by them from that height, the city stretched endlessly beneath the windows, the city looked quiet—almost peaceful. Lilac scoffed, peaceful, was not a word she could use to describe Country H, it was a city that was always awake in any shape or form. She stood there for what seemed to be hours before the door clicked open. It wasn't Ezra that she had been expecting but Kathy. Kathy was Ezra's assistant, she had been Ezra's assistant for as long as Lilac could remember. Even though she was small in stature Kathy was a strong and beautiful woman.

"Mr Vega said to bring these to you."

Respectfully she placed Lilac's purse on the table.

"Thanks Kathy. Also, love the dress."

Kathy wore a green silky dress that hugged her curves and complemented her smooth, deep brown skin, it reached just below her knee.

"Thank you Ms Callen," Kathy said with a smile.

"There is no need for Ms." The door opened and Ezra walked in. "You can just call her Lilac."

"Okay Sir." She nodded, bowing her head slightly.

Satisfied, Ezra assessed Lilac, "Let's Go."

The three of them went downstairs and entered the black car waiting since Ezra insisted on dropping Kathy off.

They got to Kathy's first, once she got off Ezra told her, "I need you to be in the office by 4 am tomorrow. Do not be late."

Without waiting for her reply he signaled the driver to drive off.

Lilac crossed her legs shaking her head, now that Kathy wasn't there and a partition separated them from the driver she could finally speak freely, "Did you forget that your assistant is a girl?"

Without looking up from his laptop Ezra shrugged, "well she gets paid a lot for the work she does."

"Yeah but 4 am!? You do realize it's 11pm right now? That means she'll barely get 2 hours of sleep."

Ezra stared at her with a deadpan expression, "You do realize that I'm also going to the office at 4am…..so she's not the only one that has to be up early."

"You're so stubborn Uncle," Since he was unwilling to listen to her she dropped the subject.

She pressed her face on the window watching the cars and buildings pass in a blur, the universe was truly beautiful…if only humans weren't so ugly.

"What's next, flower?"

She faced her uncle, he was watching her, a silent but stable presence in her chaos.

Lilac sighed, finally removing the mask, "Alex thinks we'll meet again if fate allows us but he has no idea that I control my fate. I'm fate in this battle."

Ezra smiled.

Proudly.

"Good job."

At the same time in the Dey home, Alex was on a call with someone.

"Yes, I need your help…I want every information about Lilac Callen and I also want you to have people watch and follow her ... Good…okay ... Bye."

After hanging up he covered his face. In the silent office a maniac cackle rang out.

'Fate? I'm THE fate.'
