Chapter 9: Simulation: Elena Cruz, Part 1
[SHIELD Base, Night – Simulation, Age 18, Year 1]
A familiar disorientation washed over Adam. He was no longer in his body, no longer a glowing vigilante in Hell's Kitchen. The world around him was sharp, clinical, and sterile. He was a young woman, her movements precise and fluid, her mind filled with a quiet confidence that was not his own.
[SIMULATION: ELENA CRUZ, SHIELD RECRUIT. MASTER STEALTH.]
[In the first year, you awaken as Elena Cruz, a SHIELD recruit. You train in stealth, evading a practice drill.]
"Stealth? I'm gonna be Black Widow 2.0! Time to be a total ghost," Adam thought, an amused smile on his face. The contrast between his new persona and his chaotic personality was a fun challenge.
He was in a training room, a maze of obstacles and sensors. He was supposed to sneak past them. He did, his movements quiet and lithe. But as a prank, he tapped a power conduit, creating a fake security breach alarm.
"Security breach!" a trainee yelled in a panic, causing a ripple effect of chaos as they all fumbled for their weapons.
"Just a prank, folks!" Adam called out, and the trainees stared at him in disbelief.
"Focus, Cruz, or you're out," a stern voice said. It was Natasha Romanoff, her green eyes piercing.
"Focus? I'm sneaky, Romanoff. Sneaky with flair," Adam said with a cheeky grin.
"SHIELD life is going to be so much fun. I can't wait to play with these guys," Adam thought, a flicker of excitement igniting his spirit.
[Training Facility, Morning – Simulation, Age 18, Year 1]
[In the first year, you train with Natasha Romanoff, unlocking Basic Stealth Tactics.]
The training with Natasha was brutal but effective. She taught him to move without sound, to become one with the shadows. Adam absorbed the knowledge like a sponge.
[PROGRESS: BASIC STEALTH TACTICS UNLOCKED.]
"Stealth? I'm a shadow already!" Adam boasted, his new skills making him confident.
"Quiet, Cruz, or you're dead," Natasha said, her voice a low, lethal whisper.
"Dead? Nah, I'm too sneaky for that," Adam replied with a wink.
A nearby trainee, a hulking man named Miller, grumbled, "She's too loud."
"Loud with style, Miller! You're just jealous," Adam said, as a small prank. Adam's 'sneaky' movements caused a prop to fall over, making a loud clang that startled Natasha.
"Stealth is tricky, but it's so much fun. I can't wait to see what else I learn from her," Adam thought, a thrill running through him.
[City Outskirts, Afternoon – Simulation, Age 19, Year 2]
[In the second year, you track a HYDRA spy, using Basic Stealth Tactics. You gain SHIELD's notice.]
Adam was out in the field now, his senses heightened, his every movement calculated. He was tracking a known HYDRA spy, his basic stealth tactics at 20% mastery.
[PROGRESS: BASIC STEALTH TACTICS AT 20%.]
"20%? I'm a ghost already! Time to show them what I've got," Adam said, his confidence unwavering. He moved silently behind the spy, a shadow following a shadow.
"Stay hidden, Cruz," Natasha's voice was a low whisper in his comms.
"Hidden? I'm invisible, Romanoff," Adam said, a hint of pride in his voice. He was so quiet, the spy almost walked right past him. The spy paused, sensing something was wrong. "Someone's here!" the spy whispered into his comms.
"Just the wind!" Adam replied with a smirk, a small gust of air kicking up a trash can, startling the spy.
"Good work," Natasha said, her voice laced with approval.
"SHIELD's watching now. I have to impress them. I'm going to be a legend here," Adam thought, a determined glint in his eye.
[HYDRA Safehouse, Evening – Simulation, Age 20, Year 3]
[In the third year, you infiltrate a HYDRA safehouse, using stealth. A major choice approaches.]
The safehouse was a dilapidated apartment building, its windows blacked out. Adam used his stealth to slip past two guards at the door, their eyes passing right over him. He was a whisper in the wind, a ghost in the machine.
[CHOICE APPROACHING: CONFRONT OR REPORT SPY.]
"Confront? I'm sneaking in for the glory! No way am I missing this," Adam said, a rush of adrenaline coursing through his veins.
"Don't be reckless, Cruz," Natasha warned over the comms.
"Reckless? I'm a stealth legend!" Adam retorted, moving silently into the spy's room. The spy, a grizzled old man, turned abruptly, his face a mask of surprise.
"Who's there?" the spy yelled, his voice laced with fear.
"Nobody!" Adam replied, a mischievous twinkle in his eye, a small plasma spark from his hand making the spy's lamp flicker and die, plunging the room into darkness.
"A big choice means a big reward. I'm going to confront him, and I'm going to get something amazing out of it," Adam thought, his heart pounding in his chest as he prepared for the showdown.
