In the not-so-distant past, about twenty years ago, when Morpheus was still in the Toaruverse, he had made some modifications to the angel summoning spell.
At that time, he was a magician at the 5=6 level within the Golden Dawn system.
The magician ranks, or strength tiers, in the Golden Dawn system were divided in great detail.
New entrants started at 0=0, and only by beginning to learn magic, studying theoretical knowledge, and so on could they improve their strength and reach the 1=10 level.
Further up were 2=9, 3=8, and 4=7, all belonging to the First Order, which was the status of ordinary members.
Naturally, most magicians were actually at these levels, and even those from different systems were roughly at this strength tier.
Higher up was what was called the Second Order, also known as the Adeptus Order.
Magicians at this level could serve as leaders in some large magic cabals.
Among them, 5=6 was called Adeptus Minor, 6=5 was Adeptus Major, and 7=4 was Adeptus Exemptus.
Adeptus Exemptus, 7=4, had reached the limit that humans could achieve... that is, on the Kabbalah Tree of Life, the highest Sephirah attainable below the upper three Supernals.
Going further was not only extremely difficult, but once crossed, it was equivalent to surpassing human limits and entering the realm of the inhuman.
For example, one could even attain true immortality.
If distinguished by name, then 8=3 was not only called Secret Chief but also had a more direct title: Temple Chief, Master of the Temple!
Angel summoning could be said to be the highest-level magic spell, with very high requirements for the caster's knowledge, magical power, and so on. Once successfully cast, it could pull down an angel from the Christian phase... or rather, the divine realm... and make it fight for you.
The angels summoned in this way each possessed the immense power to cleanse the entire world... and here, "world" wasn't a description like Earth, but the actual material universe!
The infinitely expanding material universe could be solo-cleared by these angels. Just the descent of one could make the whole world tense, because if the angel unleashed its full power, it might directly destroy this universe!
Angels were existences that terrifying.
But the requirements for this magic were so high that, as far as Morpheus knew, only one person had successfully cast it: the founder of the Golden Dawn, MacGregor Mathers.
Of course, Morpheus believed that a few others should have similar capabilities.
Before his death, MacGregor Mathers had reached 7=4, the highest level of Adeptus, the limit humans could achieve.
Morpheus was just a 5=6 novice, far from MacGregor Mathers' level, but he wanted to cast the angel summoning spell, so after improving it for a long time, he finally succeeded.
The angels' power was infinitely weakened, reduced to the point where it could only affect a planet, and this power couldn't be used directly by himself.
With so many restrictions as the cost, the angels could be summoned and would strengthen Morpheus' control over the four great elements: earth, air, water, and fire.
If he had to find a simple way to describe it, it was that after Morpheus discovered the angel summoning spell he'd worked so hard on was too underwhelming and couldn't be used directly against enemies, he used the four angels' inherent representation of the four elements to manipulate elemental power instead, directly using elemental forces for attacks.
For Morpheus at this moment, the four great angels were like a "buff" that "enhanced elemental attacks and accelerated elemental magic casting," allowing him to unleash attacks far exceeding his usual power during its duration.
So, even though the magic Morpheus was casting was some relatively ordinary elemental magic, its destructive force was completely different from before.
If not for Morpheus' precise control over magical power and his ability to restrain the force just right, random blasts could have turned these places into utter devastation, like the surface of the moon!
At this moment, under Morpheus' control, several fire arrows shot toward those giants, so fast they were hard to dodge. Amid a series of booms, several more giants fell.
As their companions kept dying, these seemingly dim-witted Gigantes finally reacted. They roared and bellowed, charging toward Morpheus. To them, the threat from everything around combined was less than this tiny human!
Nearly eighty giants rushed at Morpheus, while the gods were stunned by Morpheus' display and momentarily failed to react, not moving to block the giants.
The first to snap out of it was Medea, the girl who had almost all her attention focused on Morpheus.
"Morpheus, be careful!" she shouted, immediately starting to cast spells, trying to use attacks to stop the charging giants, but her assaults clearly had little effect.
Artemis also raised her bow, but even though she could attack with arrows, she could only hold back a few giants. There were simply too many swarming forward to block them all.
The gods who finally reacted were already too late. Zeus gathered lightning, and even though lightning was fast, the process of casting meant he'd missed the best rescue window!
If anyone was the calmest at this moment, it was Hecate. She clearly remembered just how exaggerated the defensive power of Morpheus' clothes was... these giants obviously couldn't affect him much.
Seeing Hecate so composed, the originally extremely tense Athena calmed down as well. She felt that Morpheus must still have some trump card hidden.
"Boom!"
Terrifying force smashed into Morpheus, but it was blocked by his clothes. His attire constructed a temple... a mobile temple... because its features included all the qualities a temple required, so it could exert the protective power a temple should have!
However, he didn't have that many materials, and what he made wasn't the kind that could be maintained indefinitely; it was a relatively inferior type.
Even so, this outfit could defend against nuclear bomb-level attacks during its activation time... and the power at the center of a nuclear blast!
The giants fell into confusion. They couldn't understand why their attacks had no effect on this human. They'd clearly swung heavy blows that should have completely crushed him, yet this human was utterly unharmed!
"He's actually fine?!"
Zeus' heart gradually sank. He realized he couldn't see through this human from another world. The magic the other was using was all completely incomprehensible to him. He began to ponder what the outcome would be if he fought against him.
Then, he sadly realized that he probably wouldn't gain much advantage... perhaps it would devolve into a stalemate.
If the other could fully utilize the power of those projected Outer Gods, forget stalemate... he might be taken out instantly.
But from what he saw now, it seemed the other could only use a portion of that power.
"He's really okay!" Artemis shouted happily, which immediately revived the spirits of Medea, who had nearly fainted from seeing Morpheus get hit.
Medea looked at the distant Morpheus and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
In that instant just now, she'd felt her heart nearly leap out of her chest. At that moment, the world had truly seemed to go gray.
That feeling made her terribly uncomfortable!
At this point, after blocking the giants' attacks, Morpheus began a new magical experiment once more.
Hundreds of magical spells activated around his body, reinforcing his flesh while preventing it from collapsing.
All of this was for the battle to come!
"Thud!"
With a light movement under Morpheus' feet, his whole body shot out like a cannonball, even creating a sonic boom around him. In that instant, he'd broken the sound barrier!
Morpheus wasn't a Saint, not one of those monsters whose bodies were innately incredibly strong and could easily destroy mountaintops or even cities when going all out. But he was a magician, and by relying on magic, he could perform many operations that humans couldn't do on their own.
For example, engaging in hand-to-hand combat at supersonic speeds!
This was a required course for magicians!
