Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Parting

"Talos, Ronan the Accuser has left, and he won't dare come back to Earth for a while. Do you have any plans?" Thor joked. "Or maybe you'd like to keep pretending to be Nick Fury's boss?"

"Oh, no, no—please forgive me..." Talos shook his head quickly. Ever since he had disguised himself as Fury's superior, there had been endless messy business to deal with.

"I'll help you find a new home and fulfill Mar-Vell's last wish," Carol said suddenly. She had always felt guilty toward the Skrulls, and now that she had a chance to make amends, she wasn't going to miss it.

That night, Carol explained a few things to Nick Fury and handed him the communicator.

The next morning, she said goodbye to Maria Rambeau, Monica, and Thor.

"Aunt Carol, when I grow up, can I drive a spaceship to find you?" Monica asked, pointing at the small craft parked on the lawn—the one Thor had given her.

"Of course you can." Carol turned her head toward Thor, not wanting the farewell to be too heavy. "Well? Nothing you want to say to me? You were the one who started this conversation, remember."

"Asgard's concept of time isn't the same as Earth's," Thor said casually. "For humans, decades are a lifetime. For us, it's just the blink of an eye. But if you really want to say something… give me the communicator I gave you last night?"

Carol laughed in disbelief. "Ha! I already gave you my contact info. As long as you're not across the whole galaxy, you'll be able to reach me." She jogged a few steps, then turned back with a grin. "Next time we meet, we're going to have a proper fight. Don't think I didn't notice—you provoked me on purpose just to make me unleash my energy."

With that, she soared into the sky, vanishing in a flash of dazzling light.

See you in twenty-three years, Thor thought silently.

Behind him, Nick Fury clapped him on the shoulder. "Don't get sentimental. You'll see her again—"

Before he could finish, Thor grabbed his arm, flipped him over, and sent him flying.

"Oh my God! What are you doing?" Maria and Monica gasped. But in the next moment, "Fury" shimmered and transformed—into a young man in a green trench coat, glaring angrily.

"Why? How did you see through that?"

Thor looked at Loki calmly. "You had too many flaws. Your tone, your movements—they were all wrong. And besides, I know you too well."

Loki froze. Since when did my muscle-headed brother actually use his brain?

Thor ignored him, glancing at the glowing system panel in his mind. The reason he had seen through Loki's disguise was largely thanks to a sudden new mission.

*"Drip! Congratulations to the host for triggering a Loki-related mission: Eating, Sleeping, and Beating Your Younger Brother! As the god of mischief, Loki often plays pranks on his elder brother. The best way to deal with this troublemaker is to use force until he understands!

Note: There are no branching options for this mission. It can only be accepted or discarded.*

Mission Objective: Hit Loki 100 times.

Mission Reward: Master of Lies — your words will become more convincing to others.

Note: Lies that are too outrageous will still fail.

Thor smirked. A useful ability. If I'd had that earlier, maybe I wouldn't have failed so badly when I tried to talk to Carol. As for hitting Loki 100 times… please. Like I'd ever hit him without a mission reward?

Loki shuddered, suddenly feeling a wave of ominous malice directed at him. He quickly pushed the feeling aside and sneered. "So, brother… that woman just now, she was nice, wasn't she? Did you like her?"

Thor chuckled, remembering Carol's parting words. "Forget it. We'd never work out. If the two of us got together, we'd probably be fighting every day."

"No, no," Loki said slyly. "That wouldn't be a fight. It would be you getting beaten, one-sidedly!

Thor glared at him. "As a younger brother, if you don't respect your elder brother—then you deserve to be hit!!!"
