Chapter 183 - “Damn it… I’m not the one who’s supposed to deal with this thing, am I?”

Above Stark Tower, an eerie blue beam shot straight into the sky, churning the clouds and twisting the heavens into a massive vortex.

The center of the vortex continued to expand, revealing an unfamiliar sea of stars visible even from the ground.

"Damn it… I'm not the one who's supposed to deal with this thing, am I?"

The corners of Xu Fu's mouth twitched. When he looked up, he saw countless flying machines pouring out—small aircraft and portable aerial vehicles swarming through the air.

The Chitauri army had begun its invasion of Earth.

Energy beams erupted from the Chitauri forces, sweeping across the streets of Manhattan, New York City.

Wherever the beams landed, explosions followed in rapid succession, fires blooming violently.

People who had once lived peaceful lives were caught completely off guard by the sudden appearance of these invaders. Explosions swallowed entire neighborhoods, spreading outward at terrifying speed.

In an instant, countless civilians were injured. Casualties were severe. Cars and buildings were blown apart. Under relentless artillery fire, people fled in panic, desperately trying to escape the battlefield.

"Help!"

"What's happening in the sky…? Where did these monsters come from?!"

"God, save us!"

The cries shook the very earth.

"The beautiful nation has fallen into crisis!"

Xu Fu let out a sigh. Then, his eyes suddenly turned crimson.

Two blazing red beams shot across the sky. In an instant, countless Chitauri spacecraft were destroyed by Xu Fu's lasers.

They fell from the heavens like rain, crashing into the city as roaring heaps of wreckage.

However, the portal in the sky continued to expand. More and more Chitauri poured through, completely sealing off the sky.

"Loki! Shut down the Tesseract, or I'll destroy it!"

Thor, the God of Thunder, raised Mjolnir and pointed it at Loki with murderous intent.

"Hahahaha… foolish brother. I heard you almost lost your hammer. Oh—but fortunately, you're a hammer god again now!"

Loki naturally understood what had happened atop the mountain.

Thor's hammer—said to be liftable only by those it approved—had returned to his brother's hand.

Strangely… why did the word "again" come to mind?

Mocked by his brother, Loki found that even his brother's protector could no longer shield him.

"I've waited for this moment for a very long time. Let's go to war!"

Having lost the scepter, Loki produced another weapon. As he stretched out his hand, a radiant golden spear materialized in his grasp.

Damn it.

The golden spear was no match for Mjolnir. Moreover, Loki followed the path of the trickster god—hardly suited for direct combat.

Naturally, in close combat, he was no match for Thor.

Yet Thor, aside from unleashing a few furious hammer strikes at the beginning, clearly held back during the rest of the fight, subconsciously favoring his brother.

Iron Man switched into combat mode and left the two gods to their "brotherly bonding" on the balcony.

Pushing his engines to maximum output, he joined Xu Fu in battling the Chitauri army.

Black Widow arrived as backup aboard a Quinjet. Hawkeye had already set up an ambush, firing an explosive arrow the moment the S.H.I.E.L.D. aircraft appeared.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The side of the Quinjet was blown apart, and the aircraft spiraled downward.

When the jet was suddenly ripped apart by a pair of massive hands, an enraged roar echoed through the air.

"ROAR!!"

Hawkeye's face turned green as he saw the green figure ready to leap into action.

The Hulk had arrived.

The Hulk traced a perfect arc through the air and smashed into the rooftop where Hawkeye was hiding. He flailed his arms wildly, and the building's walls crumbled like cardboard.

"Don't kill Hawkeye! He's being controlled—he's not an enemy… he's an enemy!"

Black Widow crawled out of the wreckage, watching as the Hulk chased Hawkeye relentlessly. A trace of sympathy flickered in her eyes.

"Forget Barton for now! Think about how we deal with these invaders!"

Captain America stood in the open, shield in hand, gazing up at the sky.

The heavens were filled with Chitauri forces bombarding New York's streets, while a massive rift connecting to another world loomed above.

The nation had endured countless wars. He himself had defeated Hydra and helped win the most decisive war in history.

Yet compared to the battles he had experienced, none could match today.

Was it because he was getting old?

Or had the world simply gone mad?

At that moment, a colossal star beast—like a mechanical whale hundreds of meters long—drifted through the air at the center of the portal, swimming through the sky as if it were an ocean.

"Moooo—"

A massive interstellar leviathan, its armored body bristling with blade-like ridges, emerged through the portal into Manhattan.

It was a heavy weapon cultivated by the Chitauri. Its destructive power was secondary; its primary function was transporting massive armies.

Captain America watched the behemoth soar overhead and raised his communicator.

"Tony, do you see that thing in the sky?"

Iron Man flew closer and closer to the leviathan, his suit linked to the S.H.I.E.L.D. comm channel.

After hearing Captain America's exclamation, he replied in a forced calm tone, "Yeah… I see it. I'm still… processing."

The leviathans plunged into the dense skyscrapers of Manhattan, crushing buildings beneath their bulk. Hundreds of Chitauri soldiers leapt from both sides, sliding down cables into the human world.

The moment the grotesque soldiers touched the ground, the massacre began.

Brave civilians recorded the scene and uploaded it online, shocking the entire world.

The end had come.

Elsewhere, atop Stark Tower, Loki was still no match for his brother—even though Thor was holding back.

At the critical moment, Thor's heart softened.

As he raised his hammer to strike Loki down, memories surged forth—of their childhood, training together, sparring together, running toward the sunset.

Their lost youth.

"Loki, wake up! Look at what you've done!"

Thor lowered his hammer, grabbed Loki by the collar, and dragged him to the edge of the balcony, forcing him to witness the living hell below.

Innocents slaughtered by the Chitauri. Blood and chaos painting the city in despair.

"You want to be king—but is this the king you want to become? All you're leading is meaningless slaughter!"

Loki stared blankly at the scene below. Even he was shaken, murmuring softly, "It's already beyond repair."

"Of course it can still be redeemed!"

Hearing a hint of remorse in Loki's words, Thor felt joy surge within him.

His brother… had finally changed.

"Loki, if we fight together as brothers, we can still change everything!"

The brothers locked eyes, the moment heavy with emotion.

Loki seemed moved. After a pause, he tilted his head and smiled.

A dagger suddenly appeared in his hand—and he plunged it into Thor's abdomen.

"You're so naïve, my foolish brother."

At last, Loki succeeded in enraging Thor completely.

The far more powerful God of Thunder seized Loki and smashed him violently into the ground.

Meanwhile, Captain America and Black Widow were stunned by the overwhelming scale of the Chitauri forces.

Iron Man attacked desperately, but his strikes barely peeled away the outer armor of the monsters.

"Hulk?!"

"Where's the Hulk?! We need the Hulk!" Iron Man shouted over the comms.

"He went after Hawkeye. Hawkeye enraged him and drew all of his hatred!"

Captain America reported, while Black Widow—fighting off Chitauri soldiers—added, "The Hulk is already hard to control. Loki must have known this. That's why he had Hawkeye lure him away. Damn it… Loki's plan is working!"

Just then, a deafening crack echoed through the sky.

It was as if the heavens themselves had been torn apart.

Magnificent thunderclouds erupted, swallowing countless Chitauri soldiers. Screams echoed as they were reduced to ash.

Thunder roared.

Another bolt struck, and a silver-white streak of light shot forward at extreme speed.

"It's Xu Fu!"
