Chapter 18 - [18] The Scheming Four Pillars?

Golden ripples, then an unusual weapon emerged.

Followed by the ability to fire—as if those golden ripples concealed an entire armory.

Just how had Gilgamesh obtained these?

Unless he explained it himself, it would remain a mystery.

"Brunhilde, look!"

Göll's cry snapped Brunhilde out of her thoughts. Following her gaze to Incubus, she wondered—was this thing still alive?

No. Instead, golden ripples shimmered around the weapons impaling Incubus like a pincushion, and the weapons slowly sank into them.

Were they being retrieved automatically after Gilgamesh's disappearance?

Brunhilde quickly reached out to grab one, her hand brushing against the golden ripples—but she felt nothing unusual, as if they were just a mirage, untouchable.

Then, the weapon in her hand also became like an illusion, dissolving into nothingness.

In an instant, all the weapons vanished, leaving behind only a corpse riddled with holes.

"Ugh—!"

Göll stared in astonishment at her sister's actions as she casually stuffed Incubus's corpse into a trash bag and lifted it—was she really planning to dispose of it like garbage?

"Göll, I'm taking out the trash."

Brunhilde stated it so bluntly that Göll's lips twitched. Her sister's approach was just too domineering.

Being forceful could be a good thing, but sometimes it backfired.

Göll couldn't help but worry that if they weren't careful, Brunhilde might push things too far and get herself killed.

With a resigned sigh, Göll followed, intending to keep watch.

Once they stepped outside, they entered a long, straight corridor that seemed endless.

Göll, walking ahead, remained alert for any approaching gods.

Hmm, all clear.

Soon, they reached a spiraling hallway.

Wait—Göll's body tensed as she sensed an overwhelming presence.

Who—who was that?!

No matter who it was, she needed to retreat and warn Brunhilde immediately.

But as she turned, she collided with something soft—Brunhilde's chest.

Ah, she had caught up so fast! Just as Göll was about to speak, her peripheral vision caught a figure that sent a jolt of terror through her.

A white-clad man with crimson hair and golden eyes stood there, his sheer power radiating palpably.

A single glance from him made Göll feel as if her life hung by a thread, draining all her courage and leaving only deep-seated fear.

Most striking of all was the massive, uniquely shaped hammer in his hand—the legendary divine weapon, Mjölnir.

Which meant this was none other than Thor, the mightiest god in Norse mythology.

The presence of such a figure left Göll frozen in place, too terrified to move.

"Lord Thor."

Even Brunhilde, who had been so bold during the divine assembly, tempered her usual arrogance in his presence, bowing respectfully.

Göll wanted to follow suit, but the sheer intimidation radiating from the god of thunder left her paralyzed, sweat pouring down her back.

Would her hesitation be seen as defiance? Would he strike her down with a single swing of his hammer, flattening her into paste?

Ugh!

To her relief, Thor seemed intent on walking past them without a second glance.

But just as she began to relax, he suddenly stopped, nearly making Göll choke on her breath.

Wh-what now?!

Had her hesitation angered him after all?

"Brunhilde, what are you doing?"

His cold tone made Göll's heart leap into her throat. Had he noticed the corpse in Brunhilde's bag?

Ah—?!

Göll nearly fainted.

Of course he noticed—how could he not?!

The bag had torn open, revealing a gruesome, bloodied head.

And how had the bag torn? Because Brunhilde had been dragging it along the floor instead of carrying it properly, leaving a glaring blood trail down the hallway.

No wonder Thor was questioning her.

"Disposing of this corpse."

Brunhilde's blunt reply made Göll want to faint all over again.

Can't you explain it more tactfully?

"Did you kill him?"

Though his tone remained flat, Göll could feel the air trembling in fear.

"While I did want to kill Incubus, I'm well aware of Valhalla's constitution and wouldn't casually violate it."

By this point, Göll could sense that Lord Thor was growing impatient, no longer willing to listen to Sister Brunhilde beat around the bush.

"It was a human who killed Incubus!"

Brunhilde revealed the truth the moment Thor seemed about to lose his temper. Even so, the truth only caused the slightest flicker of change in Thor's indifferent expression, which she caught from the corner of her eye.

"A human? One you summoned?"

"Yes, and they were killed in an instant—utterly defenseless."

After these words, Thor fell into a silence so heavy it was terrifying.

Then, electricity crackled around his body, his divine power so immense it seemed to warp the very air.

The next second, calm returned—he had suppressed his impulse.

"Is that so? Good. I don't know what you're scheming, but I hope the human you summoned can entertain me. Otherwise, I'll kill you!!!"

The moment he finished speaking, Thor swung his hammer without warning, sending the bag containing the corpse flying.

"Don't keep me waiting!"

With those final words, he left without another glance.

Only after his figure disappeared from sight did Brunhilde let out a sigh of relief, wiping away a cold sweat.

Though she appeared calm on the surface, she had been quite nervous inside.

"Whew, that was terrifying! Sister Brunhilde, do you think Lord Thor will participate? There's no way we can win against such a fearsome god!"

Göll, slumped on the floor, couldn't help but voice her worries.

Even though the King Gilgamesh they had just seen was incredibly powerful—slaying the chief god Anu—she believed there was no chance of victory against the terrifying Thunder God of Norse mythology.

"He will. Absolutely. And he'll likely be the vanguard of the gods!"

Given Brunhilde's understanding of the gods, Thor would undoubtedly be sent out first.

This answer left Göll dumbfounded. It was practically a guaranteed loss from the very start.

With that, the two sisters returned to the Akashic Records.

"What's wrong, sister?"

"Someone's been here!"

Brunhilde had intended to continue searching for humans capable of opposing the gods and to activate the Akashic system immediately. But she had a feeling that someone had used the system while they were away.

Who? Could it be someone from the Babylonian pantheon?

Uncertain, she decided to check the surveillance footage. Moving to a hidden corner, she retrieved a pinhole camera.

The gods, in their arrogance and disdain for human creations, had carelessly overlooked it—allowing her to capture the evidence.

Inserting the memory card into a tablet, she confirmed that someone had indeed entered. However, the intruder wasn't from the Babylonian pantheon but another mythological system.

These individuals had also tampered with the Akashic Records.

It seemed they were afraid she might discover someone. How intriguing!

The intruder's identity? One of the Four Great Kings of the Ars Goetia.
