Chapter 6 - 6 Toward the new beginning (3)

The rest of her day passed similarly to the morning, being introduced to her classes and instructors. Her homework was to introduce herself or read a chapter in the textbook to discuss the next day.

She alternated between classes and cleaning. Cleaning was simple at first until another janitor pulled her aside, and said that she would just only be responsible for the library from now on. There were other students who were cleaning around campus, and the other students who were helping the librarian were not as adept as her.

Her classes seemed simple enough at the moment, and when she was done cleaning or returning books back to the shelves she had time for homework and study. It was not ideal, but it was better than nothing.

She had finished her last assignment in the library, and said goodbye to Mrs. D, before leaving for the last time for the day.

The Hunter Association was five blocks away if she was to get a job the first thing she would get would be a bike. If she had to walk every day she would die.

The scenery was nice to look at, she passed through a neighborhood park and the garden was arranged nearly with trees providing shade for the sidewalk.

She walked through a shopping district and got a feel for the prices of food. Being broke was not going to be easy. The price of noodles was high and she didn't bother to linger to look at the prices of meat.

The air felt tender the closer she got to her destination.

Finally reaching her destination, the towering building with tall windows and a black frame came into view. The Hunter's Association was a very noticeable building, it didn't blend into the surroundings and was easy to spot.

Azalea climbed the stairs to the doors, and walked through. It was like day and night, the outside looked so dark and domineering but the inside was the exact opposite. She gently walked across the marble tile to the reception desk area. Spotting the line, she quickly stepped in to get a spot.

Feeling nervous she brushed her bangs aside, and patiently waited for her turn. The line moved, some people were escorted elsewhere due to picking fights with others in line.

Once it was her turn at the desk, Azalea cleared her throat, "Are there any open jobs available for civilians?"

The once smiling receptionist deadpanned, her eyes glazing over, gave Azalea a list of different jobs for civilians.

"Go through the door over there and ask to speak with a manager."

As Azalea turned and walked away, she heard the receptionist mumble under her breath, "Stupid Civis think they can work with hunters."

Azalea kept her small smile on her face, but felt like crying internally.

She walked to the door that the girl had pointed towards, it was one of many along the wall.

Outside of Azalea's earshot, the receptionist smiled knowing she would get kicked out of the building for bothering the Repair Master. The little girl would never get a job.

Azalea opened the door.

"Excuse me…is anybody here?"

A loud crashing sound, similar to how a man crushing a glass in his hand, came from further inside the room

She took a tentative step into the room, scanning the dark office for people. Nothing.

She took another couple steps inside the dark office, the blinds were closed but let in a little light allowing the room to not be pitch black.

As she took another step the door closed behind her making a clicking sound.

She spun around so fast, nearly giving herself vertigo, to face where the door had been. Her face, instead of feeling the open air, was smashed into a surface that was both rough and soft. She stumbled backwards a little to make space between herself and whatever she had run into.

To her right she heard another noise and a light turned on.

A girthy man sat in the only chair in the office by the desk.

Azalea had somehow missed the being inside of the office and managed to run right into them.

"People are not allowed in here, get out."

"I…I need a job and the receptionist told me to come here."

The man's scare across his mouth twitched as he smirked, "Do I look like I care? …And whatever the bitch outside said. I. Don't. Care."

She dropped to her knees and lowered her head, "I need a job, please any type. I am in school and my brother is in a coma. I am in an art school, and am good with my hands."

Hearing nothing but silence and feeling the angry stares, "Please, I will do anything."

The awkward silence continued, "I will come everyday till I get a job."

The man sucked in and breathed out a big sigh, like he was trying to lower his blood pressure.

She heard a creaking noise, not knowing what it was because she was too scared to look up.

She felt the vibrations in the floor as he took a couple steps to her then stopped.

Next thing she knew, Azalea was thrown over the man's shoulder not knowing what was happening.

He spoke in a mocking voice, "If you are that desperate, I would fucken hate for my rest to be disturbed every day."

Azalea's first thought of the man, other than being tall, would be rude. As she was carried away, the receptionist covered her mouth and let out a grin, thinking she had succeeded in getting the girl kicked out of the building. It was going to be a very entertaining night.

The man carried her down a hallway across from his door, she ended up losing track of where she was going as she was further thrown into a chair in another room and given a pen but nothing to write on.

"Guild Master," the man spoke shamelessly, "I have an open slot, can we get this poor sop a job under me."
