"My father?" I murmured, looking at the guard.
He nodded, staring at me in the eyes only briefly, and I saw a flicker of pain in them before he glanced away. "He asked to see you."
I inhaled and exhaled slowly, giving him a curt nod, "I'd be there."
The guard made his way out of the office, and the tension intensified.
"Reschedule the important meetings, and handle the others in my place. I'll deal with the invitation later."
"Noted, Alpha," Brian said without any question.
I strode out of the room with Lyra following me from behind. I arrived in my father's room and met with Elder Morris and John, standing in the room's centre with the seer Rachel, next to my father's frail figure lying still on the bed. My father's beta was also present in the room. He stood near the nightstand with arms folded.
"Alpha," Elder Morris and John muttered as soon as they noticed my presence. They both bowed to me in respect.
