Chapter 35 - Meeting

My thoughts were mainly centred on Aria.

I tuned out what the elders were saying while my gaze fixed on a pillar at the far end of the room. I couldn't tell what Aria thought she had seen, but she had looked so hurt and furious that I feared for a second she'd march forward and slap me hard across the cheek.

The moment she stormed out of the room, I wanted to run after her, to explain I was only trying to help Sophia because something got into her eyes, before she kissed me. Still, Sophia had held me back, wanting my attention, crying nonstop about the possibility of her going blind. Her tears had gotten on my nerves, but I could do nothing except stay and comfort her.

I sighed, pushing back the thoughts to focus on the meeting.

"Rogues are overrunning our territory." Said Elder Bernard, Sophia's father. His eyes swept lazily across the spacious circular chamber used as the meeting room for council members, before landing on mine.
