KAIDEN
EVE OF CHRISTMAS
The pack house buzzed with the excitement of Christmas. Some shopkeepers moved around briskly, going to their store one last time until the twelfth night, when regular activity around the pack house would resume fully.
I stood by my office window, observing it all, my ears twitching at the melodious sound of a hymn playing from the snow globe on my desk. The snow globe was a gift from my mother on my fourteenth birthday. Even though I had thought it was tacky and girly, I went further to hide it inside my box under the bed with the other unwanted gifts. I wished I had appreciated it more and thanked her dearly for being so thoughtful and the most loving mother I had ever seen.
I was an ungrateful little shit she had to keep up with.
