Chapter 29 - Charity

I moaned, coming to. And the first thing my eyes locked on was a gap in the ceiling; wide enough for something small and crawling to squeeze through.

My heart picked up, picturing many crawling animals that made my skin prickle. Blinking rapidly, I glanced away with a gulp, zeroing in on the wall whose paint had peeled, leaving only a few patches of the original shade.

For a few seconds, I stared, my brows furrowed in concentration, trying to recall where I had seen it, but I could come up with nothing.

Was I in the hospital? There was no intricately designed ceiling, not even the ugly geometric wallpaper, or his faint scent in the air, so I was definitely not in Atlas's room.

Yes, I remembered being at the hospital with Imogen—the dizziness, the heat that surged through me… and then nothing.

"Imogen?" I whispered, looking around the plain room, sitting up slowly. The mattress creaked underneath me as I did.
