Chapter 10 - Gwen Stacy

Bai Ye gripped the railing on the rooftop of the top floor of the Midtown High School building, gazing into the distance.

He was currently contemplating whether to drop out of school right away. After all, his background was the same as everyone else from the orphanage; not going to school didn't matter much.

Yes, in this world, Bai Ye had no parents. Or rather, for the him of this world, having biological parents might as well be the same as not having them.

After a moment of hesitation, he abandoned the idea. After all, before recovering his memories, his plan was to study hard, stay away from the underworld, and live a wealthy life.

Bai Ye was currently thinking with a bit of a headache, considering how to make some money in the short term.

The living expenses he had painstakingly earned before had been mostly used up in a series of purchases.

As for studying, even if he didn't drop out, he could always skip class, right? He could put it off for a day at a time.

"Ugh, this is so annoying. If worse comes to worst, I'll just become a gigolo for some rich woman. Can't go back to robbing banks like before," Bai Ye complained.

He really did awaken his memories a bit too late. If he'd had them earlier, he could've used his past life's knowledge to get ahead of the curve. He wouldn't be struggling with a few measly tens of thousands of dollars, let alone becoming a billionaire and achieving financial freedom.

Standing on the rooftop, he gazed into the distance, feeling the gentle breeze. Bai Ye took a deep breath of the cool air, looking out at the towering buildings of New York.

As he looked down from the height, a new training method suddenly popped into his head.

Would pushing his body to the brink of death be more effective for sharpening his spirit?

The moment the thought arose, Bai Ye took off his jacket and gripped the edge of the railing with both hands. Then, his perspective flipped upside down as he did a handstand on the smooth metal railing.

Even though his arms were steady, holding his body in place, he was on a building several stories high. One small mistake could lead to a fall, which would either be fatal or leave him severely injured.

Breathing slightly faster, Bai Ye's adrenaline began to surge, sharpening his senses like never before.

This was precisely the unorthodox method from traditional martial arts: Dao Tianji!

To put it scientifically, it involved keeping the body in a constant state of danger, using the environment's power to focus energy, accelerate blood flow, and create an extreme mode.

It was similar to the boosted learning efficiency the night before a university exam, when the pressure of failing pushed one to cram an entire course in just a few hours.

After stabilizing his body, Bai Ye concentrated all his weight on his right hand, then raised it behind him and began doing one-handed handstand push-ups.

The control afforded by his 1.4 Spirit attribute made each movement as steady as a machine.

Under the pressure of potential death, every rise and fall of his body tightened his nerves. The thought of retreat flooded his mind, but Bai Ye's mind firmly suppressed it.

His eyes were fixed on the plus sign next to the Physique attribute on his stat panel.

If he made a mistake in his balance, he would immediately allocate all unused attribute points to the Physique category.

He would then raise his Physique to 1.9. Coupled with his internal energy's protection, he wouldn't be completely unscathed, but he would at least survive a fall.

Although Bai Ye wouldn't deliberately put himself in harm's way, it would be cowardly to back down with all these safeguards in place.

132… 133… 134…

With such concentration, even without weights, each single-handed handstand push-up consumed more energy to maintain body stability.

Soon after reaching 160, Bai Ye's stamina began to fail. His arms started to tremble slightly uncontrollably, forcing him to draw upon his internal energy from his dantian to offset the imbalance in his physical strength. "Creak…"

Just as Bai Ye was concentrating on his handstand push-ups, the iron door creaked open.

A blonde girl pushed the door open and walked in, only to see a handsome young man with a fair complexion and skin flushed red below his neck, sitting casually on the railing and looking at her.

"Classmate, it's supposed to be class time right now. Don't you think you're in the wrong place?" Bai Ye flipped over onto the railing before the girl opened the door, casually sizing her up as he spoke.

Golden, shoulder-length wavy hair, delicate facial features, and a good figure – from an attractiveness perspective, Bai Ye would give her a score of 1.3.

"I should be the one asking you that, Bai Ye. Are you also taking a break after an extracurricular training session?" The girl raised an eyebrow, sizing Bai Ye up with a smile.

"You know me?" Bai Ye asked, puzzled.

"Of course I do. Everyone in the school should remember you from last year's welcome party. I just have a good memory, so I remembered your name."

The blonde girl slowly walked forward, admiring Bai Ye's appearance as she extended her right hand. "Let me introduce myself. I'm Gwen Stacy."

Bai Ye hadn't expected the girl in front of him to be Gwen Stacy. Out of politeness, he reached out to shake her hand lightly.

However, after their hands touched, she grabbed his hand and gently pulled him away from the railing.

"Don't you think it's dangerous to sit on the railing?" Gwen asked with a slight smile.

Bai Ye looked at the woman, speechless, and suspected that this overly friendly woman wanted to flirt with him.

At the instant of contact, Bai Ye felt a slight stinging on his arm, and he saw the other person's data.

Name: Gwen Stacy Strength: 1.0 Agility: 1.0 Constitution: 0.9 Spirit: 1.1 Charm: 1.3 …

After confirming that the other person wasn't some female Spider-Man version of Gwen, but just a harmless ordinary person, Bai Ye didn't think it was necessary to pay too much attention.

He put his jacket back on the railing, put his hands in his pockets, and walked towards the door, saying, "You can rest here if you want. Goodbye."

Seeing Bai Ye about to leave, Gwen wanted to say something, but Bai Ye's figure flashed and disappeared from the rooftop. She could only sigh helplessly.

Down from the rooftop, Bai Ye looked at the changes in his attribute panel. Although he had stopped exercising halfway because of Gwen's appearance, the Dao Tianji method was still quite effective.

On the attribute panel, the strengthening effect on strength and constitution was only a slight increase, but the number of times needed to train his spirit attribute was directly reduced by about 50%.

Let's keep at it. My classmate will become Spider-Man in a few days. When he transforms, I'll see what his three-dimensional attributes are like, and then I can roughly estimate the increase for each attribute point. Bai Ye thought to himself.

Afterward, he found an empty room nearby and slowly began cultivating the Purple Cloud Divine Skill. When he came to his senses, it was already 10 p.m. and he was still at Midtown High School.
