Chapter 17 - The Silence of the Hounds

Hell's Kitchen remained dim at night, the shadows between buildings seemingly breathing. HYDRA special forces moved quickly, like silent ghosts. The mechanical sounds of firearms instantly filled the rooftop, the tactical assault had begun, several laser sights flickered red, and all muzzles were aimed at Dominic.

The voice of the leader among the HYDRA soldiers came through the communicator: "Fire!"

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Gunshots tore through the silent night sky, bullets pouring towards Dominic like rain, leaving no room for escape. Each bullet carried deadly precision, the dense barrage leaving Dominic almost no space to dodge.

Facing such a fierce attack, Dominic made no move, his face still wearing that sickeningly arrogant smile. He stood rooted to the spot, motionless, seemingly completely unconcerned by the hundreds of bullets flying towards him.

"Oh, please." Dominic sighed feigning boredom, mocking in Stu's impish voice, "Haven't you so-called 'special forces' learned any common sense? I'm Dominic, Homelander, not some small fry you can just take down with guns."

Almost all the bullets stopped before his body, not even qualified to graze the corner of his clothes. With a flick of his finger, the direction of all bullets instantly changed, "Clang clang clang" hitting the surrounding walls and ground, shrapnel flying everywhere, but not a single bullet harmed him in the slightest.

"My god, this is too boring." He then switched to imitating Brian Griffin's calm voice, saying mockingly, "You know, this scene reminds me of those vulgar crime movies where the villain thinks they can handle everything with a few guns, and what happens then?" He rolled his eyes and continued, "Reality is much crueler than those old scripts, guys."

Dominic's eyes suddenly turned cold, his Cyclops suddenly emitting a blinding red light, like a signal of death, instantly sweeping across the densely firing HYDRA special forces. "Buzz—" The red light flashed past, a smell of burning filled the air, followed by several screams and explosions echoing around.

The HYDRA soldiers didn't even have a chance to react, their bodies were cut in half by the Cyclops, flesh and blood splattered in the air, bright red liquid staining the ground and walls. Even wearing the most sturdy tactical armor, they were as fragile as paper in front of Dominic's Cyclops.

"Wow, what a classic death scene." Dominic continued in Stu's vicious tone, a cruel smile on his face, "But, I have to say, look how miserably you guys died. Every time I see such a bloody scene, I can't help but say—hey, god, this is definitely not PG-13 standard."

He gently raised his hand, firing the Cyclops again, aiming at the remaining few soldiers trying to escape. The red light pierced through their backs with precise accuracy, "Bang!", their bodies fell in response, instantly turning into a pile of corpses.

"Did you really think you could escape?" Dominic smiled slightly, the corner of his mouth lifting, continuing to tease, "My god, I really wish I could have some fun. Couldn't you HYDRA guys last a few more seconds?"

As the last HYDRA soldier fell, the rooftop returned to a brief silence, the air still filled with the smell of gunpowder and blood. Bodies lay scattered everywhere, severed limbs strewn about. Dominic slowly walked past the corpses, his face full of indifference and disdain.

"Tonight was really... too peaceful." He shrugged, continuing to talk to himself, his tone devoid of any regret, instead carrying an incredibly relaxed arrogance, "I have to say, these HYDRA guys are really boring. Not only couldn't they handle me, but they didn't even have any interesting conversation. I feel like I'm becoming more and more like a cosmic overlord now."

He stood at the edge of the rooftop, looking down at the city below, feeling the exhilaration brought by this unparalleled power, as if the whole World was at his feet, and he was the sole ruler.

The morning air was cool and fresh, the Sun just rising above the horizon, warm sunlight spilling onto the streets. Dominic, dressed in light athletic wear, was enjoying his morning run. His steps were light, his breathing even, as if the rhythm of the whole World was beating with him.

Just as he rounded a corner, several low growls suddenly came from ahead. A few hounds stood by the roadside, their eyes fierce, seemingly full of hostility towards Dominic's appearance. They bared their teeth, revealing sharp canines, emitting low roars, as if ready to pounce at any moment.

Dominic stopped, put his hands on his hips, and sighed slightly. He glanced at the hounds, a cynical smile on his face, a playful glint in his eyes.

"Oh, look at this scene," Dominic shrugged, slowly walking towards the hounds, as if completely unafraid of being bitten. His tone was full of lazy self-mockery, "The dogs are barking really fiercely, it reminds me of some idiot who always thinks they can control everything by barking, but in reality, that's all it is."

He imitated a goofy tone and muttered to himself, "Hey everyone, I'm Dominic, and today I'm going to teach you dogs what real power is." After speaking, he deliberately forced an exaggerated smile, his eyes narrowed into slits, as if this was just a boring performance in his daily life.

The hounds clearly didn't understand Dominic's "sense of humor", they growled even more fiercely, their voices getting louder, seemingly trying to intimidate him with it.

"Wow, that's really annoying." Dominic tilted his head slightly, his expression as if watching a farce. He suddenly gently made a "quiet" gesture with his finger, a dangerous glint flashing in his eyes. "Shhh—quiet down, dogs, let's not make noise, okay? Otherwise, I'll have to teach you some manners."

The hounds clearly didn't understand the gesture, and instead roared more fiercely, almost pouncing on Dominic.

"Hey, listen to me, guys." Dominic said, imitating a seasoned, British-accented tone, "If you keep barking like this, I'll have to take matters into my own hands, although this... doesn't fit the 'civilized' way of solving things, but... I never take the conventional route." As he spoke, a playful cold light flashed in his eyes.

In the next second, the hounds suddenly fell silent. Their barking stopped abruptly, as if their throats were suddenly clamped by some invisible force. Dominic gently snapped his fingers, and the fierce hounds instantly became docile, as if enchanted, lying obediently on the ground, their tails tucked between their legs.

"Look," Dominic smiled slightly, his tone full of pride, "This is the right way to handle things. Who needs extra barking?"

He continued his pace, walking past leisurely, as if everything before him was just a small interlude during his morning run. He looked at the rising Sun on the horizon, a faint smile on his lips, thinking to himself, "How boring, hope nothing else uninteresting happens today."

Just as he had run a few steps, he heard the wind, followed by several dark figures rapidly approaching from a distance, clearly not ordinary morning runners. These figures were fully armed, carrying assault rifles, their movements agile, evidently well-trained.

"Oh, here they are, can't stay idle, can they?" Dominic stopped, his eyes turning sharp, a cold smile curving his lips, "HYDRA guys, really don't know what's good for them." He shook his head slightly, seemingly a bit helpless, but his nonchalant appearance showed no sign of nervousness.

The HYDRA soldiers quickly spread out into formation, their muzzles aimed at Dominic, the leading Commander coldly giving the order: "Fire!"

"Bang bang bang!" Gunshots echoed in the morning air again, bullets densely flying towards Dominic. Compared to the hounds' barking, this attack was clearly lethal. However, Dominic merely gently extended his hand, as if joking, flicking his finger slightly, and all the bullets instantly changed trajectory, flying towards the HYDRA soldiers.

"Wow, is that it?" Dominic shook his head with a laugh, his tone full of playfulness, "You guys are just like those hounds, barking fiercely, but can't bite."

The HYDRA soldiers were instantly hit by the bullets and fell to the ground. The entire morning returned to tranquility, as if nothing had happened.
