Chapter 18 - The Invincible God in Chess

Dominic stood on the rooftop, overlooking the city lights, when suddenly his eyes lit up. He had finally found it—the target he couldn't locate last night with his Superman-like hearing and vision—today, it was right before him.

"Boom!"

Dominic leaped from the rooftop like lightning, crashing heavily into a building not far away, the entire floor shaking from his impact. Smoke and dust billowed, and alarms blared everywhere.

The HYDRA Agents became instantly alert. They immediately raised their weapons, their movements skilled, forming a battle formation, their muzzles uniformly aimed at Dominic, who had landed in the center of the lobby.

Dominic stood in the dust cloud, his expression as calm and arrogant as ever. Like Homelander, he seemed dismissive.

"Oh, how interesting," Dominic smiled slightly, that unique mockery on his face. Imitating Stu's sharp, little devil tone, he said, "You pathetic crawling things, do you really think these firearms can stop me? Good heavens, don't tell me your HYDRA intelligence is still stuck in the 20th century."

The HYDRA Agents didn't give him much time to mock. They quickly initiated tactical movements, their weapons firing in unison, bullets raining down on Dominic, their targets clear, leaving no blind spots. In an instant, the entire lobby seemed covered by a storm of firepower.

"Oh, come on!" Dominic lazily rolled his eyes in the smoke, continuing in a calm tone imitating Brian, "Haven't you guys seen 'The Boys'? I'm Homelander! Bullets are like mosquito bites to me, completely painless, okay?"

The bullets instantly stopped around Dominic's body. He didn't even move a finger, as if these deadly projectiles were just pieces of paper to him. With a light flick of his finger, the bullets reflected back, hitting the bodies of the HYDRA Agents, making a chilling "hissing" sound, as if the air itself was submitting to his power.

Agents fell in swathes, screams rising one after another. The battle in the lobby took a drastic turn; the HYDRA Agents couldn't even last three seconds. Dominic tilted his head slightly, a playful smile on his lips, "Seriously, guys, at least give me a challenge? This is way too boring."

He stood among the fallen bodies, sighing softly, as if he had just finished an utterly tedious task. He again imitated Stu's voice, speaking in that heavily sarcastic tone, "Are you guys treating me like a normal person? Come on, I'm a superhero, no, to be precise, I'm a god. You should know, mortals can't stop a god."

The air was filled with the smell of gunpowder and blood. The HYDRA Agents were completely slaughtered, the ground covered in blood and severed limbs. Dominic stood in the center, his gaze cold, yet wearing that cynical smile on his face.

He added in an extremely playful tone, "So, before you try to defeat me, at least learn how to be interesting."

Just as Dominic was about to leave, he suddenly sensed HYDRA reinforcements rapidly approaching from a distance. Smiling slightly, he turned, and the laser light in his eyes flashed again, instantly turning everything before him into ash, as if it had never existed.

"This, is power."

Inside HYDRA, a secret underground Base.

Jasper Sitwell stood in the dim conference room, staring at the cold Agent file through the large screen in front of him. On the screen, Dominic's face, full of arrogant smiles, made him feel extremely uneasy. This person wasn't just a threat; he was a walking disaster.

Alexander Pierce sat formally at the other end of the table. The atmosphere was heavy, the air filled with a tense oppressive feeling. Pierce's gaze was sharp and deep, as if everything was under his control. He clasped his hands across his chest, quietly listening to Sitwell's report.

Sitwell pursed his lips, finally breaking the silence: "Director, Dominic... he's not as easy to deal with as we anticipated. Our people were almost completely wiped out by him in minutes. This guy... is even stronger than we imagined, far beyond our control."

Pierce frowned slightly, asking coldly, "Be more specific, Sitwell. What kind of threat is he?"

Sitwell nodded, clearly a bit nervous, but trying to remain calm. He pointed to the data on the screen and slowly said, "Our investigation shows that Dominic not only possesses superhuman strength and flight ability, but his body is almost indestructible. His laser eyes can instantly destroy any physical defense, and ordinary weapons are useless against him."

He paused, then continued, "In a sense, he has many similarities to 'Superman' from the comics. Invincibility, super speed, flight, laser eyes... he's practically a real-life Superman. However, unlike the one in the comics, Dominic has no moral constraints and doesn't serve justice. He does things purely based on his whims, with no bottom line."

Pierce's eyes flickered with a hint of thought and unease. The absolute power HYDRA had pursued for years, suddenly appearing in the hands of such an uncontrollable person, was undoubtedly a fatal threat. He nodded impassively, his voice low, "In other words, he's a 'god' with absolutely no sense of responsibility. But our understanding of him is still insufficient."

Sitwell took a deep breath and continued, "Director, his personality is extremely narcissistic, even more arrogant than any metahuman we've ever seen. He doesn't care about killing at all, nor does he care about rules. He views ordinary people... like we view ants, completely without sympathy."

Pierce lightly tapped the table, contemplating their next course of action. His gaze was still sharp, but there was a hint of caution in his tone: "Dominic's existence means we must re-evaluate all our plans. His power far exceeds our expectations and directly threatens HYDRA's global deployment."

Sitwell hesitated for a moment, then continued, "Director, we can't even determine if he has any weaknesses. We've tried to find weaknesses similar to 'Superman' based on the traits he's shown, but there have been no substantial findings. His power seems infinite."

Pierce smiled coldly, a hint of ruthless calculation in his eyes: "No one is perfect, Sitwell. Just like 'Superman' in the comics, he seems invincible, but he still has his weaknesses... whether it's a certain power source, or the vulnerability deep within him. Everyone has weaknesses, we just need to find Dominic's."

He stood up, his back to Sitwell, looking at the dark World outside the window, as if plotting something.

"Continue tracking his movements and digging for his weaknesses. Remember, we HYDRA don't need to confront him head-on. This World has always been won by intellect, not brute force." Pierce said in a low voice, his eyes cold, carrying a hint of killing intent.

Sitwell nodded, realizing Pierce's resolve. He knew that HYDRA would never give up easily, especially when facing a threat like Dominic. They would find a way to solve the problem, it was just a matter of time.

"Yes, Director. I will closely monitor his movements." Sitwell replied, then exited the conference room.

Only Pierce remained standing in the room, coldly watching the night sky outside the window. There wasn't a trace of cowardice in his eyes, but rather a cold determination. He believed that HYDRA would eventually find an opportunity to seize this uncontrollable power.

"Dominic..." Pierce whispered softly, the corner of his mouth slightly curved upwards, "You think you're a god, but you're just another pawn."
