Matt sat alone in the office at the warehouse, surrounded by papers and files that had taken him most of the day to dig through. The desk lamp cast a dim circle of light across the documents spread out in front of him, and the rest of the room was dark except for the faint glow coming from his laptop screen. It was late at night, and the building was silent around him in a way that made every small sound feel louder than it should.
He'd been at this for hours now, ever since Ryan had rushed out yesterday to go to the hospital for his friend Marcus. Matt had watched Ryan leave with that look on his face, the one that said he wasn't thinking clearly, that his emotions were driving him instead of his logic. And that worried Matt more than he wanted to admit.
