Chapter 36 - A dark hall

Elara's POV

"Your past," Caius says. "You need to understand it. That's how you can stop it from haunting you."

"My past…"

The mere thought of it always feels like heavy hands dragging me into it. Somehow, I'm scared of taking another experience in it again. But that's not supposed to be possible.

Then why the fear?

About my parents' death? They can't possibly die a second time, but each day, the memory lives in my head like a living person. It has succeeded in building a house there, such that everything—my presence—always feels tied to them.

And then my other past?

The only account I can remember is with that group of rogue wolves.

I can't explain how I lose memory of other events before my parents' death. But even if I can't recall them, the unknown memories still claw at me.

"Elara." Caius touches my upper arms as he steps closer. "This process is very important."

I step back so his hands fall to his sides. "Process… my past, what do you mean?"
