"DXD: Multiverse Journey"Chapter 259: Is Tohka Immune to Cheesy Pick-up Lines?
Every bystander who'd just been force-fed a dose of public affection turned into a walking lemon, silently cursing the couple and wishing—if only out of spite—that these lovebirds would end up as siblings.
Of course, this entire scene hadn't gone unnoticed by the girls hiding behind the flower beds, all spying on Shuo and Tohka.
"Astonishing. Yuzuru never considered this feeding technique. A clear tactical oversight," Yuzuru murmured, eyes wide with admiration.
"Ohoho! As expected of my peerage—brilliant work!" Kurumi crowed, her voice dripping with pride.
"So unfair… I've never done anything like that with anyone…" Natsumi muttered, her face red as she hugged her knees.
Silence fell. Somewhere in the crowd, Shuo shivered, a chill crawling up his spine. He couldn't shake the feeling that something—or someone—was watching him.
What's with those looks? Why does everyone seem so weirdly hostile?
He glanced around at the passersby, only to find more than a few people glaring at him, jaws clenched in envy. Shuo blinked, utterly baffled.
"Shuo, Shuo, let's go to the next place!" Tohka's voice chimed in, snapping him out of his daze.
He turned to find Tohka puffing out her cheeks, a dab of cream clinging to the corner of her mouth—utterly adorable.
Ah, so that's it.
It all clicked for Shuo. With a theatrical sigh, he declared, "Ah, in this beautiful world, single folks really are the majority, huh!"
"Tohka, let's keep our date rolling!"
He stood, pulled out a tissue, and gently wiped the cream from her lips. Under the envious stares of the crowd, they strolled off together.
"..."
What the hell was that supposed to mean?
Did he just… was he mocking us?!
The crowd seethed in silence, their hearts howling. That guy's last "casual" comment was a direct jab at all the singles in the area!
So what if you have a girlfriend?! We have… well, our phones.
Blissfully unaware of the chaos he'd left behind, Shuo was already deep into his next adventure with Tohka.
"So, where to next, Tohka?" he asked.
Tohka's eyes sparkled. "First, takoyaki! Then yakitori, fried noodles, ice cream, grilled squid, hot dogs…"
As she rattled off her plans, pointing at every food stall they passed, Shuo could only sweatdrop. Some things never change—no matter the occasion, Tohka's appetite reigned supreme.
"Is your whole date plan just… eating?" he teased.
"Of course!" she replied, utterly serious. "I watched all your other dates, and there was barely any food! So today, my plan is to eat everywhere with you. Isn't that perfect?"
Her confidence was infectious. Only Tohka could dream up a date like this.
Shuo's gaze softened. "Then what are we waiting for? Let's start our gourmet adventure!"
He took her hand, fingers slipping easily into hers as they made their way to the next stall.
"Boss, two orders—no, three—of takoyaki, please!"
"Boss, one giant tub of ice cream!"
"Boss, uh—just keep it coming!"
By the time they finished their food raid, Tohka's arms were loaded with snacks and her eyes curved into happy crescents.
She scooped up a mountain of ice cream and held it to Shuo's lips. He eyed the tub, lips twitching. Only Tohka could polish off a bucket like that—if he tried, he'd probably end up sick.
Still, he opened his mouth and let her feed him, then ruffled her hair in gratitude. As a thank you, he leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to her lips.
Tohka's face went crimson in an instant.
A few seconds later, she peeked up at him, a dazzling smile breaking across her face. "Shuo, I love you!"
The confession caught him off guard, but his smile only widened. "I know. I love you too, Tohka."
"How much do you love me?" she pressed, suddenly serious.
Shuo blinked, surprised by her earnestness. She really is growing up, he thought, warmth blooming in his chest. He reached out and patted her head.
Tohka squinted in delight, but couldn't help pushing further. "Do you really love me? Will you always cherish me?"
She knew the answer, but she wanted to hear it—needed to, because she loved him so much. He was the first to accept her, to give her a name and a home, to fill her life with warmth and happiness. Most of all, she loved that he was always gentle and patient with her, that being with him felt like the best thing in the world.
"Yeah. Not just love—I adore you, Princess Tohka. With all my heart."
Tohka's cheeks flushed pink. "Are you telling the truth?"
"Of course."
"Really really the truth?"
"Really really."
"Really really really?"
"Really really really."
Shuo leaned in, cupping her delicate face, his voice low and sincere. "I want to cherish you for ten thousand years. A hundred thousand years. Forever."
The numbers hung between them like a spell. Tohka's violet eyes turned dreamy, her gaze locked on his. She was completely swept away.
Seizing the moment, Shuo bent down and kissed her. Tohka set her food aside, wrapped her arms around his neck, and rose on her tiptoes to return the kiss, slow and sweet.
When they finally broke apart, Tohka gazed at him, cheeks puffed in a pout. "Shuo, you lied to me."
"Huh? Lied about what?" Shuo blinked, genuinely confused. Sure, the lines were cheesy, but he'd meant every word.
Tohka huffed. "You said you'd cherish me for ten thousand years, a hundred thousand years—but we can't live that long."
Shuo's jaw dropped. For a second, he was speechless—then he burst out laughing.
"You silly girl, that's a figure of speech. 'Ten thousand years' and 'a hundred thousand years' just mean forever."
He ruffled her hair again. "Besides, I'm immortal. As long as I'm here, your life will be endless too."
"Oh! So it means forever!" Tohka's embarrassment faded, replaced by a sheepish grin. "Sorry, Shuo—I didn't get it at first, hehe…"
Seeing her start to act cute again, Shuo just shook his head in defeat. What could he do? With Tohka being this adorable, how could he ever tease her for long?
