Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Branded as a Criminal

So the few major companies she interviewed with earlier all rejected her, saying their company couldn't possibly hire someone with a criminal record...

Coming out of the police station, her friend Nina Pierce came to pick her up, speaking indignantly on her behalf, "That's just too much! Even if you accidentally bumped into his son, his son wasn't hurt at all! I still have the hospital's examination proof! How can someone be so ungreatful!"

Laura Quincy rubbed her forehead, having not slept for 24 hours, she just wanted to catch up on her sleep, "I had hoped to get into Xavier Group, but now everything's ruined, I've become someone with a record."

Nina also felt it wasn't fair for her friend, "Laura, why don't I take you out to relax, and after things settle down, you can start looking for a job again? I believe with your skills, you're bound to find a great job; after all, your education and past work experience speak for themselves, a real gem will shine anywhere."

Laura appreciated her friend's goodwill, "Nina, you only just got your medical license this year, and it's a busy time for you. Let's plan something for when you're on holiday. Tonight I'll send out a few resumes, and if it doesn't work out, I'll ask that small company that approached me before."

Nina nodded, "Okay."

Having bought some reserve grains from the supermarket, Laura planned to stay home and not go out for a while. However, as soon as she and Nina walked into the neighborhood, they saw residents passing by pointing fingers at her.

There were even moms with kids urging their children to stay away from her, calling her a kidnapper...

Stunned, a little boy picked up a small stone and threw it at her, "Bad woman kidnapping kids! Beat you up!"

Although the child's strength wasn't very strong, the stone hit Laura's leg, causing her such pain she almost stumbled, barely able to stand.

Nina quickly supported her friend, defending her, "She's not a bad woman, there's been a misunderstanding in this matter!"

The little boy made a face at them, "She's a bad woman! The internet said so!"

Nina was about to say something else but was stopped by her friend, "Forget it, Nina, it's not worth arguing with kids."

The two of them hadn't walked far when they were surrounded by a group of journalists.

"Miss Quincy, could you tell us how you found out about the young master from the Hawthorne family?"

"Miss Quincy, what method did you use to trick the Hawthorne young master into going home with you? Is there really that kind of drug that can enchant kids?"

"Miss Quincy, was your purpose for kidnapping the Hawthorne young master to become his stepmother?"

A series of sharp questions left Laura speechless, and never having seen such a big fuss, she was dazed, with the blinding flashlights making it impossible for her to keep her eyes open.

"I didn't kidnap the Hawthorne young master!"

She could only mechanically repeat this sentence, but the reporters wouldn't let go of her, continuing to bombard her until she ran out of strength and fainted...

Laura had no idea how long she had slept, but when she opened her eyes, she saw a white ceiling and an unfamiliar setting, she tried to sit up, only to find herself on an IV drip.

In a daze, Nina pushed the door open and came in.

"Laura, you're finally awake!"

"How long have I slept?"

"Everything you remember was from yesterday."

"Uh... has it been that long?"

Nina washed an apple for her, "Have a bite to fill your stomach, I'll go to the cafeteria and get you some porridge later."

Laura sat up, "Nina, about those reporters yesterday..."
