Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: Always a Fighter

I was sitting by my mom's bed and cradling her cold hand in mine. My chest tightened, making every breath a struggle. I kept my eyes on my mother's cold, unconscious face and let the tears flow freely as Doctor Clark's words swirled in my head.

"We gave Mrs McMahon the dose that was safest in her condition. Of course sometimes, the body's reaction takes time but it's been over a week now and we've not noticed a single change–she didn't get better, didn't get worse. "We can increase the dosage but that carries a lot of risks. The drug can stimulate but have possible lethal side effects. But presently, these are the only options we have–we can either stop the treatment, or risk continuing with a high dosage."

How was I supposed to make the decision? I could sign the consent and risk watching my mom die, or I could give up now and leave her in her sleep, waiting for her body to naturally fade away.
