Chapter 18 - Something important

That softness that plunged beneath. The muffled whimpers that drummed in my ears. The cold air that sent shivers racing through me. Then the distant stillness.

I slowly forced my eyes open through the darkness, one at a time. The faint light welcomed me, it was already night. But then a figure loomed.

I wasn't alone. The sudden realization threatened to snap the breath out of me.

My eyes drifted to the side, there she was. Eyes closed, mouth muttering something that slipped out as muffled whispers. I couldn't comprehend what she was doing, but I couldn't deny the pain slowly dissipating from my toes.

She's a healer?

Barely taking in the realization, I felt a warm touch that nearly made me leap off the soft mattress I was lying on.

"Thank goddess," he breathed heavily. "I thought I'd lost you."

The stranger. The same one I remembered carrying me before darkness consumed me.
