Chapter 35 - Eyes on you

I couldn't believe what I was seeing as I stared, trying to be certain enough.

What was he doing here? How was he…

The war.

His face was pale, his jaw slack, eyes closed like he was clinging to the faintest breath of life. His shoulders sagged beneath the emerald green garment that draped over him.

I exhaled sharply, dread wrapping around me until the very air seemed to still. Why had I been brought here? To see him like this? To break me further?

Yes, this man made me go through hell. He made my life a nightmare and more. But I just couldn't hold back as something dangerous stirred in my chest.

My knees buckled, and I collapsed onto the cold floor, arms wrapping tightly around myself as memories surged back. So fierce they dragged tears from my eyes until they splashed onto my thighs.

Then, a faint sniffle from him broke the silence, and I jolted upright. My breath caught. 

Should I move closer?

Should I scream for help?

What was I supposed to do?
