Chapter 36 - Unsettling

I barely slept that night, haunted by the constant reminder of how far my life had shifted, from what it was meant to be to what it had become now.

I fought past the tears, and slowly the bright light from the window drifted into my eyes until I adjusted to its blinding glare. It was morning already.

My back was sore, as was my entire body, as I shoved myself up, my eyes taking in the emptiness of the room. From the wrinkled sheets on the other three beds, it only indicated they had been slept in by someone who had already left.

I sniffled and quickly freshened up. I didn't even notice when those who shared the same room with me had retired to bed last night.

Just as I alighted from the bathroom, my eyes caught a neatly arranged set of clothes on the bed I had just left. Stunned, I looked around for any clue but found none.

The room was deathly quiet, and the sheets on the beds were now neatly arranged.
