Chapter 23 - Comfort of a Viper

"Get ready for tonight. That would be all," Knox said.

He dismissed the warriors with a single flick of his wrist. No one spoke as the last warrior exited the war room, leaving Knox alone in the great stone chamber. He stood at the head of the massive oak table, his hands pressed flat against the polished wood. Maps and tokens remained scattered across the table. He stared at them for a moment, then let his head drop and his shoulders curve forward with exhaustion.

He wanted to punch the stone walls until his knuckles bled. Instead, he flexed his hands open and shut, counting down from ten, as Ravage twined like a fever behind his ribs. Knox was losing control quickly. In Karnok, his beast had not been this restless, but the moment he and Kade had entered the Blackwood castle, Ravage had begun to growl and snarl. Maybe the beast needed a little hunt, and he would give it to him tonight.
