The setting sun dipped below the horizon, and darkness began to envelop the earth. The city's lights gradually switched on, as if the heavens and the earth had inverted themselves. The sky showed no stars or Milky Way, but the flowing traffic on the ground formed a river of light, and the scattered lights on the buildings transformed into stars.
Eight o'clock in the evening.
Meng Ran stood atop a high-rise building, looking at a nightclub not far away. That was Wool's lair, and his destination for this mission.
"Little White, analyze the situation inside."
"Acknowledged, analyzing and scanning."
After a moment, Little White began to report, "There are a total of one hundred and fifteen people inside the building. All of them are armed with pistols, and fifty are carrying heavy weapons, including light and heavy machine guns."
Based on Little White's feedback, the panoramic view and thermal imaging scans displayed in his mind, Meng Ran had already grasped the situation.
Good heavens! This Wool was indeed not simple, and the Crocodile Gang truly possessed significant power, able to procure so many weapons. This three-story nightclub had indeed been armed into a fortress.
Meng Ran took two Straight Swords from the system and crossed them on his back. He also checked his equipment: a pistol, a dagger, and various system-produced Grenades, ready to be used at any moment.
"Little White, start the death countdown. Twenty minutes."
"Acknowledged."
At the same time, the big screen at Times Square began to change. The scrolling death threats had stopped, replaced by a twenty-minute countdown in blood red.
After checking his equipment, Meng Ran leapt from the building, approaching the nightclub. He swiftly slit the throats of the few guards outside.
Then, he entered through the door and quickly eliminated the few people in the corridor. This time, it wasn't silent. Meng Ran smashed a glass.
The sound of the broken glass caught the attention of the security personnel on the floor. At the signal of a small boss, several people raised their pistols and slowly walked towards the corridor entrance.
The machine gun mounted on the bar and the machine guns held by the gang members were also raised. The atmosphere immediately became tense.
While everyone's attention was fixed on the doorway, Meng Ran had already emerged from a ventilation shaft in the corner, landing silently on the ground.
Meng Ran didn't want to shatter the peace. With a flip of his hands, he produced four Explosive Grenades, throwing two towards the bar where the heavy machine gun was set up, and the other two into the air.
The two Grenades in the air collided with each other and then bounced apart, falling to the ground.
Hearing the sounds, the gang members turned towards the source, but all they received was a violent explosion.
Shrapnel sprayed outwards, and in an instant, almost everyone on the first floor collapsed to the ground. Only a few, who were quick or had something to shield them, managed to escape.
The moment Meng Ran threw the Grenades, he flipped a table to shield himself.
But he still felt some discomfort from the explosion.
Meng Ran could feel Venom wailing. Although after this period of possession and evolution, Venom was already much stronger than it had been at the beginning.
But noise and flames were still Venom's natural enemies.
It seems I'll have to find a way to strengthen Venom later and improve his resistance.
With so many people and heavy weapons, it would be a lot of trouble for Meng Ran if he didn't use Grenades, and he might even get hurt.
The explosions ended, and Meng Ran immediately rolled to his feet, drew his pistol, and locked onto the survivors who had escaped the blast.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
After a few shots, there was nothing alive on the first floor except for Meng Ran.
Hearing the explosions and gunshots from downstairs, the people upstairs couldn't help but feel nervous.
Wool, on the third floor, looked at the calm surveillance footage in front of him, and then listened to the gunshots coming from below. He immediately realized something.
The surveillance screen in front of him was the same as before: no one had broken in, everyone was patrolling as usual, and there was nothing unusual.
But the intense gunfire coming from downstairs clearly indicated that things weren't calm, and that their surveillance had failed.
As early as when Meng Ran had Little White start the countdown, Little White had already taken over the monitoring systems here.
"Damn it! He's not alone, someone's helping him," Wool cursed.
Not being able to see the situation downstairs made him feel uneasy.
Soon, the gunfire stopped and it went quiet again. But no one came up to report the situation.
"Could it be that no one's left on the first floor? That's impossible!"
"Scar, take a few people and go check out the second floor."
Wool was a little anxious, he turned and ordered Scar, who was beside him.
"Yes, sir!" Scar took the order and led a few people to open the thick bulletproof door and check the situation on the second floor.
They reached the second floor.
Everyone was on alert.
Scar spoke into the walkie-talkie, "Boss, the second floor is clear. We're currently on guard."
Wool breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing Scar's report.
"Then stay on guard downstairs. If that Evil Ghost is still alive, take care of it on the second floor, understand?"
"Understood!"
Scar put away the walkie-talkie. He waved his hand, signaling for a few people to go ahead and scout the stairwell.
The group, weapons raised, slowly advanced. They reached the stairwell, signaled that it was safe, and continued their descent.

After going downstairs, they were met with a scene of utter chaos. The guards who had been stationed on the first floor were sprawled across the floor, lifeless.
\n\n
The group was shocked and reached for their walkie-talkies to report the situation.
\n\n
Suddenly, several Tentacles shot out from a hidden location, wrapping around their necks and silencing them.
\n\n
The leader's walkie-talkie, after a few struggles, fell uselessly to the ground.
\n\n
Meng Ran snapped the necks of each of them and laid them on the ground, without making a sound.
\n\n
After finishing, Meng Ran stepped back, merging with the darkness.
\n\n
Upstairs, Scar, seeing that the group had gone silent, picked up his walkie-talkie and began to call out.
Unfortunately, no one responded to their calls.
The people on the second floor immediately felt a chill, a sense of inexplicable fear enveloping everyone's hearts.
The staircase passage had no lights, and the dark stairwell looked like a giant abyss, mercilessly swallowing those who entered it.
Just as everyone was feeling uneasy, the sound of a window shattering on the second floor, accompanied by the sound of several objects falling to the ground, rang out in everyone's ears.
The next moment.
Thick smoke appeared, accompanied by a deafening explosion.
A large number of people on the second floor fell again.
A feint, a second strike.
Meng Ran rolled in through the shattered window, taking cover behind a pillar. He'd taken care of the two guards stationed there.
Smoke filled the air as intense gunfire erupted.
The remaining guards on the second floor, coughing, raised their weapons and unleashed a torrent of bullets towards the window.
Scar pushed the dead body off of him, staggering to his feet.
Although most of the shrapnel had hit the guard next to him, a piece had still sliced his calf.
Scar picked up a machine gun, roaring in fury as he unleashed a hail of bullets.
Meng Ran, amidst the storm of bullets, moved with incredible agility. He skirted along the wall, silently reaping lives with his Straight Swords. He quickly made his way to the rear of the group.
In that short amount of time, the sound of gunfire had diminished by half, all due to Meng Ran's silent advancements.
Having circled around, Meng Ran sheathed his dual swords and drew his pistol.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Meng Ran held the gun in his right hand, pressing it against Scar's head. His left hand swiftly pulled the trigger. In a flash, only two people remained on the second floor.
Feeling the cold touch on the back of his head, Scar swallowed hard, his throat dry. Trembling, he dropped his gun and raised his hands.
Meng Ran was a little surprised by Scar's quick surrender; he hadn't even said anything yet, and the guy was already cooperating!
Meng Ran raised his gun and said coldly, "Turn around slowly."
Scar trembled slightly, obediently turning to face Meng Ran.
Facing Meng Ran, Scar's heart clenched, and his throat went dry with tension.
What evil and darkness! A body sculpted with explosive power, encased in a black battle suit, radiating an unsettling aura.
Beneath the black hood, a pair of ghastly, narrow eyes emitted a terrifying light.
As he watched, a large mouth filled with sharp teeth opened beneath those eyes. A long, serpentine tongue, flexible and twisting, licked around the edge of the mouth, and a few drops of viscous fluid flicked onto Scar's face with its movement.
Meng Ran actually didn't like showing this mouth; he usually only showed his eyes while wearing the Venom suit. However, considering tonight's judgment, Meng Ran decided to sacrifice some of his handsomeness, bringing the thrill and dread to a maximum.
"Ah ha! Looking at your face, full of stories, I know you are a small boss worthy of a name, right?"
The mouth filled with sharp teeth indeed produced a sound that made one's skin crawl. The voice was like the call of an Evil Ghost, harsh and chilling.
Scar's legs went weak, and he trembled as he replied, "Yes, yes."
He had been so cooperative in dropping his gun and turning around precisely to relax Meng Ran's vigilance, so he could take advantage of an opening. He felt he had a chance to turn the tables with his skills.
After all, Mr. Wool had bestowed a great favor upon him. It was he who rescued him from the slums and granted him his current life and status. Of course, he had to repay Mr. Wool.
But all his plans and arrangements were crushed by fear the moment he turned around and faced such a terrifying monster. Scar couldn't muster any will to resist.
This was simply an Evil Ghost that had crawled out of hell. This wasn't some street hero pretending to be an Evil Ghost with a mask; this was the Evil Ghost!
Meng Ran was pleased with his answer, which showed that his judgment was correct.
The crimson tongue licked Scar's cheek, leaving a trail of sticky saliva.
Scar looked at the abyss of a mouth in front of him, feeling the hot, moist breath and the wet tongue on his cheek. His whole body felt weak, as if all his strength had been drained, and he couldn't stop trembling.
"Well, let me borrow your body for a bit. This can be considered the last use of your useless life."
Meng Ran spoke in a hoarse voice, and those words made Scar collapse directly to the ground.
With that said, a thick, black, soft tentacle burrowed into the mouth of Scar, who was lying on the ground, trembling and retreating.
