The reason for this gathering was that Tony had used J.A.R.V.I.S. to hack into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s network and discovered information about the organization using the Tesseract to build weapons.
At the same time, Stephen Strange also discovered hidden weapons within S.H.I.E.L.D., which corroborated Tony's findings and confirmed that S.H.I.E.L.D. was indeed using the Tesseract to create weapons.

Because of this abrupt assault, Banner began losing control over the Hulk.
Over the past year, the relationship between Banner and the Hulk had significantly improved.

He suppressed his rage and leapt onto a prepared aircraft, leaving the Helicarrier.
Loki's immediate goal was to escape and use the Tesseract to open a portal for the Chitauri army.
He couldn't afford to linger; if the Avengers freed themselves, it wouldn't be so easy.
The Avengers, busy dealing with crises across the Helicarrier, were unaware of Loki's escape.
Tony and Stephen worked on the damaged engine while Thor battled Hulk.
After the situation stabilized slightly, Nick Fury rushed to Loki's cage.
Although he had mentally prepared for such a scenario, seeing the empty cage before him still provoked anger.
As Fury glared with his one eye, he heard a weak whisper beside him.
He turned to see Coulson, barely conscious, murmuring his name.
Seeing his fallen and injured agent, Fury quickly rushed to assess the wound.
Coulson had suffered a near-fatal impalement, and even as a veteran agent, Fury felt deep sorrow.
Coulson was one of his few old comrades, trusted and loyal.

Coulson, weakly, said to Fury, "Boss… I think I'll be clocking out early today."

Fury's voice trembled as he responded, "No, I won't allow you to clock out early."
Coulson managed a faint smile, a grim contrast to his terrible injury.
At that moment, a hoarse voice spoke nearby:
"Director, he can still be saved—if you clear the way quickly."
