"You're forcing me!"
Connors roared furiously.
His body began to change rapidly — his height shooting up from just over a meter to several meters long, his weight increasing sharply.
In the blink of an eye, his skin was covered in dense scales, and under their protection, he turned into a massive lizard.
The tremendous weight crushed his own vehicle flat beneath him with a deafening crash that made everyone's heart skip.
The commotion startled many of the men and women fighting nearby in the wilderness. They let out terrified screams and sped away in their cars. None of them wanted to end up as food for the monster.
"Roar!"
The Lizard let out a crazed bellow and quickly turned to flee in another direction.
He wasn't fighting Tao Wen — he was running away!
He knew full well he wasn't Tao Wen's match. If only he could reach a sewer entrance, he could escape underground — his territory — where he could move swiftly and safely.
"Think you can run?"
Tao Wen chuckled coldly. He grabbed a wrecked car with one hand, raised it high, and hurled it toward the Lizard's massive body.
Bang!
The terrifying force turned the car into a deadly projectile. It smashed into the Lizard, slamming him to the ground.
The car shattered to pieces, debris scattering everywhere in chaos.
A single tire rolled away into the distance.
"Get out of my way!"
The Lizard roared, scrambling frantically toward a nearby manhole. From his quick glance, he spotted one just ten meters ahead!
Thud.
But as he moved, his tail was suddenly stepped on.
Tao Wen stood there motionless, coldly staring down at him.
Crack!
Without hesitation, the Lizard broke off his own tail and lunged forward again toward the sewer.
"You really are something," Tao Wen said with a faint sneer. "But can the rest of your body break off too? If it can — go on, show me."
Just as the Lizard was about to dive into the sewer, Tao Wen's cold voice sounded right behind him. A heavy foot slammed down onto his back, pinning him in place. No matter how hard he struggled, he couldn't move an inch.
"Get off me!"
The Lizard howled and swung both claws wildly, trying to strike Tao Wen and break free.
Boom!
But Tao Wen moved even faster.
His right foot lifted and came crashing down hard onto the Lizard's back.
A violent shockwave rippled out like a mountain collapsing, the ground beneath the Lizard shattering into a web of deep cracks.
"Argh!"
The Lizard screamed in agony, severely injured in an instant.
Bang!
Before he could recover, another kick landed squarely on his head. Even with his formidable regeneration, his vision went black — he was knocked out cold.

As the Lizard fell unconscious, a new fragment appeared before Tao Wen's eyes. A faint blue light flickered as it merged into a bar on his interface: 1/6.
"Is this for fusing that piece of equipment?"
Tao Wen's eyes gleamed with excitement. He couldn't help but feel a surge of anticipation.
Then his gaze fell back onto the Lizard's body. Since he already had Connors right here, there was no way he'd waste the opportunity.
Thud!
Another heavy stomp landed, jolting the Lizard awake.

The moment the Lizard's eyes opened, another notification appeared.
"Surrender, or die?"
Tao Wen's voice was icy cold.
Without a word, the Lizard tried once again to flee.
Boom!
The terrifying power slammed into his head once more, and he fainted instantly.

With that final data flash, Tao Wen finally relaxed. Now came the part where he would tame the Lizard. If Connors refused to submit, Tao Wen didn't mind killing him outright.
Smack!
Another kick struck the Lizard's head, violently waking him up.
"I—I surrender!"
Before Tao Wen could even speak, the Lizard shouted loudly.
His heart was pounding in terror. He now understood completely that he couldn't shake Tao Wen in the slightest — and he could clearly sense the killing intent radiating from him. If he didn't cooperate, he'd be dead within seconds.
He truly didn't want to die. There were still too many goals, too much honor he hadn't yet achieved.
"That's better. Welcome to Xuan Palace."
Tao Wen grinned, lifting his foot off the Lizard's back.
Instantly, Connors' body began to heal rapidly — though, of course, his clothes were gone.
Without hesitation, he pulled a pair of shorts from a wrecked car nearby and slipped them on.
"Harlem, come pick me up."
Tao Wen looked at the Lizard while calling Harlem on the phone, giving him their location.
"Xuan Palace?"
Connors blinked, confused. He'd heard of S.H.I.E.L.D., but never something called that.
"Yes," Tao Wen said with a smile. "It's an organization I recently founded. A place for researching high-energy phenomena — and a gathering ground for people with special abilities."
He added with a calm confidence, "Give it a week, and you'll have a complete set of scientific equipment. You'll be free to conduct your research however you wish."
"Really?"
Connors had expected to be turned into a lab specimen for study, but Tao Wen's words completely overturned his fear.
He wouldn't have to work in secret anymore.
"This is only the beginning," Tao Wen continued softly. "Soon, I'll be bringing in more scientists to join you. Together, we'll build Xuan Palace into a true fortress."
"All right, let's talk on the way."
Just then, Harlem arrived in a car, waiting patiently.
Seeing Dr. Connors climb in wearing only shorts didn't surprise him much — after all, Tao Wen was a man of success and mystery.
Still, Harlem couldn't help but glance twice. Why is this guy only wearing underwear?
"Sign this contract, and you'll officially join Xuan Palace," Tao Wen said with a faint smile, handing over a document. "You can continue your research at Oscorp for this week. Once our facilities are ready, I'll contact you."
"Understood."
Connors' eyes shone with renewed hope. When Tao Wen mentioned that one of their scientists had even mastered cradle regeneration technology, he was utterly stunned.
That was a level of science even he had never dreamed of.
After signing the contract, Connors officially became the second member of Xuan Palace.
Tao Wen felt quietly pleased. His organization was growing steadily — a healthy, promising start.
After dropping Dr. Connors off at his residence, Tao Wen had Harlem drive him to a fine restaurant for dinner.
Just as he was halfway through his meal—
"Sir! Help me!"
Peter Parker's panicked voice burst through the phone, loud and desperate. Explosions thundered in the background.
Then came a chilling, sinister voice:
"Little Spider... give it up. You'll die here — and stay dead!"
The words hissed through the receiver, sharp and cold as a blade.
