Chapter 29 - How Many Times Do We Have to Save the Earth?

Anton didn't agree to let Jameson play with the Batcycle, but he did promise to send a similar prop motorcycle used during the filming.

Jameson was finally satisfied and stopped bothering Anton.

After a brief exchange, Jameson headed to New York City Hall to deal with some of the aftermath of last night's Continental Hotel incident.

Then, Anton saw that Jameson's driver was none other than John Wick, who had attempted to assassinate him last night.

This surprised Anton greatly.

Of course, Jameson had his own reasons, and Anton accepted the situation.

Besides, John Wick was skilled. In the increasingly dangerous New York of the future, having the former King of Assassins of New York in his service wasn't a bad thing.

Anyway, John Wick was planning to retire, so wouldn't it be great to find a "retirement" job? I can only sigh at the old man's foresight.

Watching Jameson leave the villa district in the classic car driven by John Wick, Anton smiled slightly.

He told the old man about his identity as Batman, a decision he made after careful consideration.

The whole Batman thing doesn't bear close scrutiny; the truth of it is a well-known secret.

Jameson is Anton's closest person. There's no need to hide anything from him on this matter. It also lets Jameson understand that Anton now has the ability to protect himself and his family.

The only thing to hide is the fact of time travel.

Such an unbelievable thing would only confuse Jameson if he knew.

Anton himself couldn't figure it out. Was he occupying Anton's body, or did his former personality awaken with the help of the System, replacing the personality of this life?

Of course, Jameson was, after all, his closest family in this life.

He packed up simply and drove to the Daily Bugle.

"Anton, yesterday's events at the Continental Hotel caused a sensation in New York and even across the United States. The New York Police Department has already opened a case and is preparing to join forces with the San Francisco Police Department to investigate the Life Foundation."

Betty looked at him in surprise as he arrived at work and reported: "Besides, there's also the mysterious figure who appeared at the Continental Hotel yesterday, the guy playing Batman. The internet is currently buzzing about him."

"Really?"

Anton was very calm. "How big of an impact is this?"

He had already read the news and online reports this morning.

Regarding Batman, the most viewed and liked content was actually those photos of Batman appearing and leaping from the Continental Hotel.

It was filmed quite professionally; the lighting and composition were top-notch.

Too bad he wasn't a Daily Bugle employee.

Anton was considering whether he should try to poach him, when he heard Betty continue, "Due to the impact of this event, in New York City, tickets for the Batman movie are in high demand. The attendance rate in other places has also increased to seventy percent. Today's box office revenue might double."

Betty had specifically called the cinema and received this answer.

"Very good."

Anton didn't seem surprised and smiled, "Congratulations, you've received the bonus I promised."

A moment later, he saw that Betty hadn't left and asked curiously, "Is there anything else?"

"That Batman..."

Betty, being an insider at the newspaper, naturally learned some detailed inside information from the reporters who went to the Continental Hotel last night to take photos.

She felt like she was being clawed by a cat inside, and couldn't help but ask, "Do you know who he is?"

"How would I know?"

Anton waved his hand, not caring at all. "I only know he's a good person."

"Fine."

Betty harrumphed, seeing Anton's perfunctory attitude, and left in annoyance.

Office.

Anton sat in the boss's chair, reviewing the gains from yesterday.

The Battlesuit's durability had decreased after yesterday's battle, but it wasn't damaged.

After checking, Anton discovered that Fan Value could replenish the durability of his Battlesuit and equipment. Of course, even damage could be repaired using Fan Value.

But that wasn't the most important thing.

[Defeated the Continental Hotel, Reward: 2,000,000 Justice Value]

The prompt that popped up on the system panel, which only he could see, was what Anton was most concerned about.

He wouldn't forget that he had to manage two metrics.

Fan Value and Justice Value.

Fan Value was used to exchange for DC heroes. Justice Value was used to exchange for the main template hero's, Batman's, special Battlesuits, which would unlock more powerful forms of Batman.

The Heat Armor, Insider Suit, Hulkbuster Armor, Bunny Armor, Enhanced Batsuit, Kingdom Come, Anti-Superman Armor, Fenris Armor, Hellbat, Sixth Dimension 'Ultimate Armor'… all of these were displayed in the system space, making Anton incredibly envious. He would sneak a peek every now and then.

If it weren't for the air wall, Anton would have loved to lick them, maybe even sleep with them every night.

The Heat Armor, Insider Suit, and Hulkbuster Armor were the cheapest, costing 5 million Justice Value.

Next were tiers of 8 million, 10 million, 40 million, 50 million, and 80 million.

The most expensive, the Sixth Dimension 'Ultimate Armor', cost a hundred million.

If he exchanged all these matching battlesuits, assembling Batman's most complete and powerful lineup, and then, like Iron Man, used the armor to shoot fireworks to pick up girls... the question was, how many times would he have to save the Earth?

Anton's eyes were spinning.

Last night's actions were, on the one hand, a warning to the Continental Hotel, and on the other, a way to dig a hole for the Life Foundation. More importantly, it was precisely for the prompt he saw today.

Justice Value!

Foiling the Continental Hotel and cleaning up the city environment earned him a system reward of 2 million.

"Well, taking care of the Life Foundation should give me more."

Maybe I can exchange for a special Battlesuit and switch it out with the basic one?

Anton was eager.

He opened his computer and went to his email, sending a message to Eddie, telling him that he'd found a helper and would arrive in San Francisco soon to deal with the Life Foundation together.

Following that, after a moment's thought, he called Betty over.

"If there are no surprises, Eddie will be back soon. Your temporary editor position will probably be replaced by him, the official editor."

After Anton finished speaking, Betty was expressionless.

He was surprised. "Aren't you even a little angry? That's not like the Betty I know."

"Is being angry useful?" Betty asked him back.

"No."

"That settles it then."

"But, if you get angry, I'll recommend you for a new job."

"What kind of job?"

"My personal assistant."

"Then I'll never dare to get angry."

"Erk!"

Anton choked: "Seriously, Betty, your talents aren't being fully utilized at the newspaper. It would be better to be my personal assistant. I have a lot of work waiting for you here."

"What else do you do besides chase girls?" Betty asked suspiciously. "You're not thinking of hitting on me, are you? I don't like your type!"

"You think I can't find other women besides you?"

Anton was a little annoyed: "Don't forget, I'm still a genius director! I have a lot of ideas in my head, just waiting for me to unleash them."

"Let me think about it."

Betty dropped her joking expression.

She understood what Anton meant and answered seriously after a moment of thought.

"No problem."

Anton nodded, "You can tell me your decision after Eddie gets back. Right, help me book a ticket to San Francisco, preferably for tonight."

"You're going to San Francisco?"

Betty was shocked: "That's Life Foundation territory! Anton, have you thought this through?"

"I'm going there to resolve this at its source."

Anton waved his hand: "Don't worry about it, just do as I say. Hurry and book me a ticket."

"Just keep exploiting me."

Betty couldn't help but roll her eyes at the words.
