Chapter 39 - Brotherhood

"This is the High Table's only request."

Aisha said seriously, "As for the target, I can only tell you after you accept the mission."

"In this world, there are many people the High Table can kill, and few they can't. But it's precisely those few who control the majority of the world's resources."

Anton narrowed his eyes, saying lightly, "Since this is a partnership, what do I get?"

"The High Table's friendship, and the title of High Table advisor."

Aisha said, "A High Table advisor has the power to mobilize the High Table's internal assassin members, and you can share all information with the High Table. Of course, in return, you must also bear corresponding responsibilities and enter into a Blood Oath with the High Table. Once the Blood Oath is made, it cannot be violated, or you will be relentlessly hunted by the High Table."

Anton understood completely; they were trying to recruit him.

It seemed that the High Table saw value in the powerful abilities Anton had demonstrated as Batman.

"A Blood Oath is impossible! Killing is even more impossible!"

Anton flatly refused, "If you've seen any Batman movies, you'd know Batman has one principle – he doesn't kill."

Aisha's expression became complex upon hearing this.

She had anticipated Anton's refusal, but she hadn't expected it to be based on such a reason.

Doesn't kill? That's ridiculous!

But on second thought, in the battle that night, not a single person had died from start to finish. After reviewing the situation, only two unfortunate souls were hit by stray bullets and died from excessive blood loss... At most, it could be considered that they died indirectly because of Anton, but it couldn't really be said that Anton killed them.

Of the assassins who faced Anton that day, the most miserable one was now a vegetable.

"However, it's not impossible to get Batman's help."

Seeing Aisha's fluctuating expression, Anton suddenly spoke again: "But, it must be done in Batman's way."

He paused, then added, "Secondly, Batman can establish a cooperative relationship with the High Table, but only for intelligence. Any other requests in the future would be separate cooperation matters... We can discuss this slowly."

He just happened to need a stage to clear the "suspicion" that he was Batman, and cooperating with the High Table wasn't a bad idea.

"I can't make that decision."

Aisha pondered for a long time, then said to Anton: "Please give me some time."

She got out of the car and took out her phone, talking to the person on the other end for a long time. Finally, she returned to the car and nodded to Anton: "Happy cooperation."

"In that case, can you tell me now who you want to kill?"

Anton asked with interest.

He was quite curious; who could even stand up to the High Table?

"His name is Sloan. He's the head of another assassin organization, the Brotherhood," Aisha said. "They're the High Table's biggest rivals in the assassin world."

Sloan?

The Brotherhood, rivals?

This felt a little off!

Anton was taken aback: "The Brotherhood? Sloan? That bunch of idiots who try to control fate under the guise of weaving?"

"Correct."

Aisha wasn't surprised that Anton knew about the Brotherhood. She said, "Sloan is the leader of the Brotherhood, and he's very powerful. He has many top-tier assassins under him, and they've never failed internationally. They're the High Table's main rivals. Over the past decade, the High Table and the Brotherhood have had direct conflicts multiple times. Their relationship is like fire and water; not only do we want to kill him, but he also wants to wipe us out."

In other words, everyone wants to be the top dog in the assassin world.

When two tigers fight, whoever eliminates the other naturally becomes the best in the industry.

"It makes perfect sense that the boss of another assassin organization would be the one who can't be killed by an assassin organization."

Anton suddenly understood.

He nodded to Aisha: "Get the information to me as soon as possible, and I will arrange a time to take action."

"No problem, we've already compiled the information!"

Aisha nodded: "If you need anything in the future, you can contact me or Winston to find the High Table. You will be our honored guest in the future."

After saying that, she handed Anton a handheld computer similar to a tablet, got out of the car, and left.

After watching Aisha disappear down the street, Anton instructed his driver to start the car. He then activated the account on his laptop and opened the files within.

Having read the information, he finally understood why the High Table had contacted him at this moment.

The High Table and the Brotherhood had a long-standing feud.

Initially, the Brotherhood was a principled assassins' organization. They only targeted individuals approved internally, posing no competition to the High Table. However, about twenty years ago, the Brotherhood underwent internal changes. After Sloan took power, the Brotherhood developed rapidly, strongly threatening the High Table's position in the assassin world.

Therefore, the High Table wanted to eliminate Sloan, to let everyone in the assassin world know that the High Table was the enduring imperial organization.

The reason they contacted Anton at this time was not only because they weren't absolutely certain of eliminating Sloan, but also because Carlos, the Brotherhood's strongest assassin, had appeared in New York.

Carlos was the Brotherhood's ace assassin, possessing an unimaginable mastery of Gun-Fu.

But several years ago, Carlos suddenly left the Brotherhood. The Brotherhood, represented by Sloan, seemed to have broken ties with Carlos and set him as a target for assassination.

A protracted stalemate ensued between the two sides, neither able to overcome the other.

The Brotherhood suffered heavy losses, while Carlos emerged unscathed.

Then the High Table received intelligence.

Carlos was going to appear in New York soon, and the Brotherhood would be mobilizing their entire force to assassinate him.

This would be a decisive battle, and Sloan would definitely show up.

This was the High Table's best opportunity to strike.

Since they weren't confident of success, they might as well leave it to someone who was, namely Batman.

Even if Batman failed, it wouldn't change the status quo, and they wouldn't lose anything.

The elders seated at the High Table were not fools.

They had calculated everything.

"The final battle?"

Anton touched his chin. Based on his memories from his previous life, this plot point wasn't in the wanted posters.

The most logical assumption was that both sides would reach a stalemate in this "final battle," neither able to overcome the other.

That's why, out of desperation, Sloan had found Carlos's son, Wesley, and planned to use him to deal with his father, Carlos.

"Tomorrow, Fox, the Mechanic, and other top assassins from the Brotherhood will arrive in New York…"

Anton closed his handheld computer and closed his eyes, deep in thought.

Time was running short.

He then pulled out his phone and called Jim.

"Anton?"

Jim answered instantly, his voice excited, "I'm preparing to throw a celebratory party the day after tomorrow, and you promised you'd come, right?"

"Of course I'll come, but not the day after tomorrow."

Anton instructed, "Move the party to tomorrow night. I'm flying to Los Angeles tonight."

"What?"

This disrupted Jim's plans, and he was annoyed. "Tomorrow? What are you doing? I've already sent out the party invitations. Do you think those Hollywood people are free every day?"

"Whether they come or not is up to them. In short, I want this party held tomorrow."

Anton couldn't care less who would be at this party. All he wanted was a legitimate, attention-grabbing entrance.

He hung up the phone.

"Shit!!"

Jim heard the busy signal and couldn't help but curse with a classic line, but there was nothing he could do about Anton.

He knew what would happen when Anton threw a tantrum.

He had a clear understanding of this when Anton was a director and in charge of the filming crew.

Anton was as willful as Tony Stark, and both were stubborn.

The only thing better than Tony Stark was that he wasn't as difficult to deal with and basically never flaked on people.

I'll be changing the update schedule starting today. Until the book is published, it will be at this time: 2 PM and 8 PM! If I don't post on time, it means I don't have any drafts saved!
