In the end, Anton and Betty booked two plane tickets back to New York.
As for the private jet, they'd bring it back once they hired new staff. Anton probably wouldn't be bouncing between locations anytime soon.
Stepping out of the airport, reporters were waiting for him at the entrance, having gotten the news ahead of time.
US airlines were, as usual, completely shameless.
Fortunately, Anton was prepared. He'd contacted someone beforehand to keep the reporters at bay.
Even though he was no longer considered Batman, it was well-known that he was closely connected to the hero.
That alone was enough to attract the attention of the press.
Plus, as a Hollywood genius director who had just started a company, he couldn't hide from these unelected rulers of public opinion.
After Tony Stark disappeared, this newly risen rich kid replaced Tony as the number one target for the entertainment tabloids.
Even Anton's long-abandoned Twitter account had millions of followers.
Of course, it was far less than Tony Stark's tens of millions, but don't forget, his millions had grown rapidly in the past month.
In a way, his rise to fame was already comparable to that of some Hollywood stars.
"Anton, did you know about Batman's appearance in New York last night?"
"Anton, can you tell us what your relationship is with Batman?"
A barrage of questions drilled into his ears.
Anton sighed.
After several minutes, he finally got into the van sent by the Daily Bugle to pick him up.
Whoosh! The car sped away.
The reporters were somewhat helpless, but at least they weren't completely empty-handed. They could go home, add some text, and publish it in the tabloids.
[Severely injured the Brotherhood, arrested Bullseye, rewarded 4 million Justice Points] [Current Justice Points: 6 million]
Sitting in the van, Anton appeared to be resting his eyes, but in reality, he was checking the system prompts in his mind.
He spent 8 million to exchange for the Rabbit Armor, and in the end, he earned back half the Justice Points. It couldn't be considered a loss; in fact, it was a gain.
Now, with the remaining 6 million Justice Points, he could afford to exchange for a special armor!
Even if it was only the cheapest one.
Of course, Anton didn't have that thought right now.
Justice Points were something you should save if you didn't need to spend them.
Ideally, he wanted to go from a bicycle to a sports car in one step.
If he could get the Hellbat or Ultimate Armor, Anton was confident he could leave Earth and go to space to fight Thanos one-on-one.
Provided Thanos didn't have the Infinity Gauntlet.
The Infinity Gauntlet was a glitch; it was unreasonable in any world.
Like the Dragon Balls from Dragon Ball, granting any wish.
This kind of "law-like" operation could only be described as a BUG.
Soon.
The car left the airport.
Anton finished his thinking and opened his eyes, looking out the window.
A moment later, he frowned, realizing something was wrong.
They were being followed!
A black car behind them was tailing the van he was in.
Anton wouldn't be mistaken.
Judging by the experience of Bruce Wayne he'd inherited, the black car's trajectory was definitely a case of "being followed."
This was a planned action.
"Who is it?"
A few names flashed through Anton's mind, but he couldn't be sure.
The only entity likely to cause him trouble, the Life Foundation, was currently struggling to survive, negotiating an acquisition with Oscorp.
Could it be someone he'd offended while acting as Batman, and he was now being caught in the crossfire?
Kingpin?
A thought flashed through his mind.
At this moment, the car turned into a narrow, deserted side street, quite remote and without any cameras, making it the perfect opportunity for the cars behind them to make their move.
"Stop the car!"
Anton suddenly spoke, his tone stern and commanding.
Screech!
The driver naturally complied with his boss's suggestion.
Betty was puzzled.
Clatter!
Anton pushed open the car door and ordered, "You two, go."
He watched the black car approaching behind him, his voice calm: "I suddenly have something to take care of."
Betty frowned.
She looked at Anton's back, then at the slow-moving black car following the nanny van, and felt something was wrong.
"Anton, what happened?"
"Nothing."
Anton waved his hand behind him, without turning back: "Listen to me, you guys go quickly. I'm the boss."
"Let's go."
Betty knew something was wrong, but she chose to trust Anton, and said to the driver: "Go quickly."
"This…"
The driver also realized something was wrong; after a moment's hesitation, he stepped on the accelerator and drove away from the small road.
Screech!
The black car behind the van also stopped in front of Anton.
A group of burly men got out of the car.
"How surprising, you actually delivered yourself to us."
The leading man sneered, "We hope you'll cooperate with us in the following actions. Otherwise, we can't guarantee that you, the genius director, won't lose an arm or a leg."
"Are you Kingpin's people?"
Anton glanced at him, suddenly asking a question.
The few people in front of him were all stunned.
Now, without them answering, Anton already had the answer in his heart.
So without hesitation, he slammed a knee strike, hitting the burly man's lower body, causing the burly man's face to twist in pain, wailing, squatting on the ground, covering his hands, unable to move.
"Do it! Hurry up!"
"Catch him!"
"Don't use guns, can't kill him, catch him alive!"
As the leading burly man roared out the order with a ferocious expression, the remaining thugs quickly took out weapons from the car and rushed towards the unarmed Anton.
Seeing this, Anton not only didn't retreat, but instead charged forward.
Bang bang bang bang!
He took down the thugs with three punches and two kicks.
Then, holding the metal baseball bat, he gently tapped the burly man who had been kicked in the groin, a look of helplessness on his face. "Kingpin really underestimates me, sending these types to kidnap me."
He could tell from Kingpin's actions that Kingpin didn't take him seriously at all.
He was definitely a victim of being associated with the Batman persona he was playing.
After all, in everyone's eyes, even if he wasn't Batman, he definitely knew who Batman was.
"I...I...I..."
The burly man swallowed hard, his face a mask of fear.
He hadn't expected Anton, described in the files as a weakling who hated exercise and the gym, to possess such terrifying fighting skills.
"Don't say another word, I don't want to hear it."
Anton's expression hardened, and he slammed a baseball bat down on the man's head.
Bang!
The burly man's head split open, and he collapsed, unconscious.
Anton was expressionless, unconcerned that he might have killed the man.
He'd controlled his strength, ensuring he wouldn't kill the guy.
If he was lucky, he'd be bedridden for a year or two, maybe with some lasting effects. If he was unlucky, he'd spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair or a hospital bed.
Batman, though he never killed, dealt with criminals far more brutally than ordinary heroes.
Only the Joker and his ilk, thanks to the supreme editorial board and the adoration of readers, could escape Batman's most ruthless methods time and again.
Everyone knew that not killing was the bottom line!
But as long as the bottom line wasn't broken, didn't anything else go? Then, under the terrified gazes of the downed thugs, Anton sneered and gave each one a final beating.
He stepped over the unconscious crowd and casually took a baseball cap from one of them, putting it on.
Next, he drove the black car the thugs had arrived in, leaving the small road and heading towards the Continental Hotel in Manhattan. He left behind only a group of unconscious, severely injured thugs, indicating that a fierce, one-sided fight had taken place here.
